I like writing short-stories because to me its more fun to create a short catchy story then write a whole novel. And whenever I try to write a novel, I tend to get about 30-50 pages done and throw it away. gonk
I don't like essays because you have guidelines on what to write. Short stories, Novels, poems, or anything else, you can write freely.
I like poems, but I don't write them to much. Just when I don't have a lot of time and I just want to get something down.
I write little paragraph stories all the time. blaugh they are entertaining to write.

It depends, really!
Poetry Whenever I feel guilty for not doing any writing recently sweatdrop Back before I was a regular Gaian, I was a Neopets member, and I was part of a writers guild on there, so from time to time I'd just write a random poem, so that I wasn't being completely inactive.
Plays/Scits Hardly ever. Not my thing at all.
Short Stories From time to time, if I can think of a good plot. Often when I have an idea for a story, I think about it and develop the plot too much to contain it to a short story.
Descriptive Paragraphs I don't do English any more, but back when I did, if I was ever told to do a piece of creative writing, I usually went for a descriptive paragraph. It's not the type of writing I find most interesting to do, but it's my forte. In my English GCSE exam, we could write to inform, explain, or describe. On every single English practise paper I did, plus the actual exam, I ALWAYS went for the "Describe" option!
Novel My favourite type of writing! Though more often than not, I start; get a few pages (or sometimes only paragraphs) into it, and then stop. I generally don't have the dedication to write novels, though I do enjoy doing so sweatdrop
Essays Only if I have to. I hate writing essays. It's no coincidence that all 4 of the A Level subjects I opted for contain no essay writing!

Poetry: I sorta used to(if you count 2) but i didn't like them...i have a tendency to hate my own work unless my friends all like it or i think it's really good.
essay: I have enough of these at school! gonk scream sweatdrop
Novels: I try, get bored, then give up, then the cycle repeats. The farthest i got was 30 pages but it was really bad(my first work ever)
short Stories: I haven't tried these yet, mainly been trying to come up with a huge plot for a story but to no results. Maybe i'll start some.
play: I just might...for a speech/debate club thing(note: I'm not in speech/debate i just hang around there and enjoy it)
Paragraphs: no comment.

Essays are an unfortunate part of life at university, so I write a number of those. I'm currently in recovery.
Poetry I've written on occaision, but I haven't recently. I'm far too critical of my work.
Short stories I love! I've only just started to get into them, but I'm working on a series of them.
Novels are what I try to focus on. I have story ideas that are simply too big to be contained in a short story, and I like a large cast of characters.

I love writing little rant type essays and short stories. I find them easier to concentrate on, and my mind to be sporadic and quick to the point, quickly going from one idea to another, it just works better for me. Descriptive details aren't as necessary in short works as they are in longer ones.
I have been wanting to write a novel, but as I side, my mind thinks sporadically, so its hard to focus on a story much longer than a couple pages. If I did a novel, it would start one way and end in a completely different manner, not even using the same style...that wouldn't work too well, unless I spent years rewritting it until it all flowed well. sweatdrop

Okay, I tried poetry, and it's just not for me. Might try it again sometime, but that's highly doubtful.
I write lot's of plays/skits since I'm in Acting at school, and it helps me to get in character sometimes, but I've only finished one which I really like.
Short stories are often written, however, I turned them into novels most of the time. I like the idea, I expand on it, it becomes 50 pages long, and then it's a novel.
Essays aren't my thing at all. I love writing them for school, but not out of it.
Novels are my thing. Most everything I do turns into a novel. I love descriptions and characterization, so even if I try a short story, it becomes so long I just make it a novel.
Fun being a writer, isn't it?

For the past four years, I've been writing mostly poetry. I started out writing stories/novels beginning at age nine simply because I enjoyed it and had lots of ideas. Now writing is something I have to do.
I got into writing articles around age 11, and songs shortly after. I write songs because I love to sing, and if I write, why not write my own songs? It's become a passion and great form of expression for me. Which got me into poetry, because not every song I tried to write didn't turn out exactly as a song and thus, poetry. Now, a lot of my poetry turns into songs. I've found I enjoy writing poetry most, and my poetry has taken the place of my usual diaries for remembering what my days are like. smile

poetry... lyrics... occasionally blog-type/prose stuff. it's a good venting outlet. it's also a wonderful way to pinpoint elusive emotions... heh, i also need lyrics for the band/original music. smile
