What is Mugen?: M.U.G.E.N is a 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte starting in 1999. Elecbyte distributed beta versions that ran under DOS, Linux, and Windows. The engine allows for anyone to create characters, stages, and other game objects through interpreted text files and graphics and sound compilations, and it also supports MP3 background music during gameplay. The engine is very powerful and flexible, allowing for the same type of functionality found in most any commercial 2D fighting game, such as the Street Fighter games produced by Capcom or the King of Fighters games produced by SNK.
Kudos to pieman for his awesomeness!!

Let's start out by getting MUGEN.
Once the page has loaded, download "No limit Winmugen Patch (1.794kb)"
This file IS MUGEN.
Extract it once it's finished and it should be in a folder already. If not, put it in a folder, the name doesn't matter, but if you are going to go along with this walk through, name it "Mugen".
Ok, so now you have a working playable "Mugen", but if you go in and play it, you'll notice you only have "Kung Fu Man" and you will also notice in character selection, you only have room for 8 slots.
So let's get you going from a lowly 8 to a respectable 581 Character slots.
Go to Mugen Jet, once there, click the "Mugen" button on the left hand side.
Personally I use "Mugen Fighting JAM" because it has a cool Intro movie, a well lit character selection screen, and seems to run its graphics well.
So click "Mugen Fighting Jam", once that page loads, go all the way to the bottom and click "Download".
Once Mugen Fighting Jam is completed downloading, it will be a .RAR named "mfj", Extract it to your Desktop. 4 things should appear, 2 folders (apaba and MFJ) an "MFJ" MS-DOS Batch File, and a readme Text Document, You can delete the apaba folder, the MFJ MS-DOS Batch File, and the readme Text Document, keep the MFJ Folder.
Go into the MFJ Folder.
Open the Mugen Folder.
Take the "font" folder from the MFJ Folder, and drag it into the Mugen Folder.
"Yes to All" Replace.
Go into "data" in the Mugen Folder.
Drag the remaining files in the MFJ Folder into the "data" folder.
"Yes to All" Replace.
You can now delete the MFJ folder.
When you go to open up Mugen, you will see there is a big difference, it's now starting with a "NOW LOADING..." screen, and it has "Elecbytes" group logo, and a new cool intro movie.
You can now go look around with Mugen and see everything for yourself, the new 581 slots, and all the other fun stuff.
