They were actually thinking of making all public places in North Carolina smoke free.

Has the world gone mad?

I just think it's funny that the world is so against smokers and cigarettes, when that very economic push is keeping most of the democratic world from going under. Also, the very same enemy that the state pursues helped build our country. People seemed to have forgotten what it means to have freedom of choice, outside the purely symbolic action of voting.

All in all, by the time I am legal to buy cigarettes, cigarettes won't be legal for anyone.

Well then enjoy NC while you can, because a few months ago Ohio (where I live) went smoke-free. You can no longer smoke in ANY public place in Ohio.

I'm from Chicago area, too, but currently living in Iowa, and there are no bars in this area that have smoking, not even the pool halls. I mean, they sell cigarettes everywhere now! Six Flags (also no smoking), Walmart, but where do they expect us to smoke them? In our houses you say?
A few months back, a man in Germany was sued by his next-door neighbor. Apparently, both had their house windows open at some point, and his neighbor claims that the smoke from his cigarette went out his house window and into the other guys' house window, making his "whole house smell like smoke". Very unlikely, however, the non-smoker got his money from the smoker. So can we really even smoke in our houses anymore?

yeah city by city texas is becoming a smoke free society. TEXAS for god sake! but we still have resturants whith open patios where your alloud to. its crazy. i mean i cant legaly smoke anyway but i always smoke in public. with the new ordinances i could be fined double. also in my city the smoking teenagers wont go away so the city made an ordinance that teenagers cought smoking will be fined 75-250 dollars and sent to jail until legal gaurdian picks them up. people are treating ciggarettes like illegal drugs. :/ so sad.
