Books! In my opinion, nothing can beat the LotR books. As for the movies, overall, they are terrific and the best I've ever seen, but when nitpicking at all the details, they could have been much better.

Yeah, the movies were great, but the books were awsome. I personaly always liked watching battle scenes and loved the battle of Pelenor Fields from Return of the King. But all in all, the books were better.

I like both but books get my vote. The books allow you to see things your way not someone else's and anyway if I didn't read the books (along with The Hobbit) I still would still consider Bilbo a creep and half crazed for even stealing the ring.

I thought everything about them all was amazing...there's something special about reading and watching movies. Especially three-hour ones. I ended up just picking movies because I knew they'd get less votes...T.T

oi, i feel bad about this. but i couldn't get past the 4th chapter before getting overwhemingly bored! and i absolutely adore reading! but the movies rock the socks of every other movie in history. even Titanic, in my opinion. the battle sences and the detail the makes put into it was just so... idk, but the best i've ever seen.

Sachiko Kangen oi, i feel bad about this. but i couldn't get past the 4th chapter before getting overwhemingly bored! and i absolutely adore reading! but the movies rock the socks of every other movie in history. even Titanic, in my opinion. the battle sences and the detail the makes put into it was just so... idk, but the best i've ever seen. Skip the first few sections of the books, they're realy boring and have little to do with the whole story. Thats what my aunt had to do...

Oh, I don't know if I'd do that... how old are you if you don't my asking? Some times it just takes putting the book down awhile and getting back to it.
And books are better, no comparision even. The movies really pissed me off at some points. I don't give a flip about Peter Jackson's vision, he can keep it to himself.I want Tolkien's story and Tolkien's vision.

I know what you mean... I have a copy of the original print, so I was a little pissed at the elves joining them at Helms Deep...

What?!? you mean the elves DONT join them at Helm's Deep in the books? oi.... Like he said, no way. And Arwen isn't a narken' warrior princess. In fact she isn't even a princess, she's Lord Elrond's daughter which makes her a Lady. In the book GLORFINDEL saves Frodo at the ford. Arwen doesn't even leave Rivendell in the books until the end when a host of Elves come to the coronation. And there's a character named Tom Bombadil, and more then I could even write in this post left out or changed for the worse by the movies. Ruric, do you mean to say there is now a book version with the Elves at Helms Deep?

Books, the films where good and can pass away a boring day but the books have so much more depth. Also i did not like how the elves go thrown in the battle of helms deep. They never went in the books

There was little in the books about her and Aragorn in the books, mabey a sentince or two.
From what my Aunt said, since she was reading the books that came out with the movies, yeah. There's also aparently was a whole chapter in the second book I think that was about Borimir that I never found in my copy's.

I definitely agree. 3nodding Some would say that the movies should stand alone, seperate from the books, and therefore should not be compared. However, this is a case where that is nearly impossible, unless the audience has never read the books.
