Who: Setsumi and Edward Where: on the outskirts of Realm When: sometime after the decision Why: need I explain?
Pale ears flickered about in an anxious manner as the feathered kitsu sat near the edge of the woodlands. The day was coming to an end, and with it all warmth of the light. Somehow, the femme didn't find comfort in the completion of another day. What was the point, when what she wanted seemed to slip from her grasp like water? Setsumi shook her blue hair, part in denial and part in defeat. What had gone wrong? The one moment she paused in life, and it twisted so badly out of her control.
Her green eyes glanced up at the sinking sun before blankly scanning her surroundings. No comfort but the occasional skittering squirrel, and chattering bird. Even those creatures were returning home to rest. Rest... Brows furrowed as Setsumi closed her eyes. Had Edward finally found rest? Some days had passed, and still the adult heard nothing the result of the love triangle. That fact alone was burdened by her instincts, and made her heart heavy.
Would he regret trying to pause in his life, just as much as she did?

It seemed like their thoughts dwelled in much the same place. Edward had been gone for a few days, and was only now starting to return. The weary and broken hearted teen emerged from the woods, padding slowly towards the Realm. After all.. he really had nowhere else to go, especially now. He couldn't see Lilianna again, not yet, and he certainly didn't want to see Endless.. ever.
However, there was someone familiar nearby, and the teen lifted his head to blink bleary golden eyes at her. A set of ugly claw marks across his face that had scabbed over. All he could do was stand and stare at Setsumi, before his gaze tilted down again.
If that wasn't sign enough that something had gone wrong, then... well.

Green eyes opened tiredly as a sound not bird or squirrel reached her ears. There was only one set of pawsteps that she could hear. Setsumi tilted her head to glance over her shoulder, none too shocked to see the boy standing silently behind her. His very aura and posture told her everything she needed to know, and had hoped against.
She stood and closed the distance between herself and Edward, gently pulling him into a deep embrace. Even without words, she put all her emotions and love into the gesture with her adopted son. Blue hair blended with gold as she nuzzled his cheek, before slowly pulling away. She kept one arm around the winged kitsu, while her other paw traced to jagged scar upon his face, hurt in her eyes at seeing the wound.
Her maw frowned as she finally turned her eyes to Edward's. "Who did this?" Surely...this wasn't from the other male.

He didn't say anything for several moments, he didn't have to. Edward simply recieved the embrace, leaning lightly against the one kitsu who was the closest thing to his own mother. He closed his eyes, before he eventually spoke up.
"Doesn't matter" he replied. After all... there was a hurt that was far worse than the marks on his face.
There were so many things he wanted to ask... wanted to know. What was he supposed to do now? Edward had known Lilianna since he was little... and now what he had cherished most was gone. Nothing would ever be the same again. So there was one question that he asked.
"How... do I fall out of love?" His voice choked and full of emotion. He loved Lilianna... and he didn't know how to stop loving her. That moment he'd spent with her on the hill... he had felt something. Something he'd never felt before... and that feeling had been crushed almost as soon as it was given to him. It was cruel in a way... but he knew that it had not been Lilianna's intention. But still.. why did it hurt so much?

Setsumi cupped the injury gently, but frowned at his words. "Yes, it does matter...." But what was done was done, and she would not push the emotional boy for information. Withdrawing her paw, she leaned in and rested her chin ontop his golden hair, closing her eyes with a sigh.
The silence was tense, but a much needed medicine. With all the conflict stirring in Ed, the pale adult could only sit back and offer what help he would ask for. What a hinderance pride was, and she was only grateful he was willing to open up to her in times of need.
Green eyes reopened and ears dipped at his question, one always felt but never before...asked aloud. Perhaps because it was a question of opinion, with no true right or wrong answer. "That's..." Was she even allowed to preach advice when she herself was failing horribly at the same topic? The doubt made her paws clammy, and she struggled to give a decent answer. But nothing came to mind fast enough.

Edward waited patiently for a few silent moments, expecting and hoping for an answer to his question. However... none really came and he sighed. "You don't know" he stated bluntly. He was a bit disappointed... but he tried not to show it. His spirits plunging even further. He seemed that he was on his own, regarding this... difficult situation he'd found himself in.
What Envy said... was it really true? Did he have... nothing? Edward had never felt so alone. When his mother died... atleast he had Alphonse... and Winry... and Pinako... but this was different. Everything was different.
Edward mustered up a half hearted smile, "Its okay, though." But really.. it wasn't okay.

Setsumi didn't respond for some time, just absorbing the fact that his statement was indeed true. She moved back some and glanced at Ed's depressed eyes with her own. "No, I don't." Still, that was unnacceptable for Setsumi to accept, let alone leave Edward with. She raised a brow with a half-hearted grin. "But that doesn't mean there is none."
She sat back on her flanks and wrapped her tails about herself. That smile of his, did he honestly think it would pass with so many cracks? "I can understand Edward, honestly. I know that now, things will feel...shitty." Yeah, that seemed like the best word to describe it. "And they will likely be that way for some time."
It may sound cruel or something that wanted to be ignored, but it was a truth that had to be accepted. Emotions could be blind at times, but perhaps Lily wasn't the one for him. And now the boy would have to lie with that reality. "But your not alone, you have others who care for you and will always help you with a smile."
Setsumi gave an empty sigh, and flicked at the antennae sticking from Ed's hair. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. There's more to live for..."

That's just it.. Ed didn't want to be told any sort of bull. He wanted the truth, and he appreciated Setsumi's honesty. The real truth was though... that he didn't want to stop loving Lilianna... but he -had- to. Despite his efforts, he couldn't will away his feelings for her. Something that was more than a little frustrating for him. Nobody wants to be sad or depressed, including Edward.
He smirked just a little bit at his adoptive mother's choice of language. That was something he didn't hear from her often. In the end, all he did was nod to her words. If Lilianna wasn't the one for him... then who was? He couldn't fathom loving another. Would he ever be able to?
"Why did she choose him?" he asked, mostly to himself. A question that has been gnawing at him for many days now.

Ears twivelled as Setsumi sat back quietly, letting Ed think things through. Of course, telling him to simply move on was unrealistic. If not a long process. That was something he could and would do on his own without being told. His nod was enough proof of his determintaion to cope.
Eyes widened slowly at his next question. Even now, Setsumi didn't know who the other male was. Lily alone was capable of flitting through emotions without pause, both a good and troublesome quality. The only way she could imagine the red femme to settle for one decision was for the other charmer to be an anchor for her emotions.
A white tipped paw swung out in polite questioning. "Who is this other male, Edward?"

And think things through he did.. up until the point that Setsumi asked her question. He blinked and looked up at her, as if just now realizing that he'd asked his question aloud.
He then frowned a bit, ears tilting back at the thought of the kitsu that he barely even knew. "His name is Endless... has a pelt like a starry sky." Even thinking about him caused his blood to boil... but he was the one who would make Lilianna happy. Atleast he'd better, anyway. Edward would be the first to rip him apart if he ever caused Lilianna any pain.

Endless? That name sounded so familiar. And the pelt, didn't she see a kitsu with some markings like that before? Setsumi struggled to place a name and face while scratching a claw into the soft dirt.
"By and by, it was her decision." Maybe this Endless was the anchor she'd need in life. And hopefully her choice wouldn't sever any bonds. Setsumi tapped her tails as she could see Ed's reaction to the very name of the other. Ironic, how jealousy was disdain could strike everyone in a similiar manner. Ed attempted a bond that....just couldn't come to exist. "Heh, at the very least, all emotions are accknowledged and no one is living a lie."
Truly, living by oneself was much better than living ith a false bond. Setsumi huffed to herself and glanced up at the clouds. "But you have a choice as well Ed." What would he do? Would he decide on a path like her own? Or...accept what he was delt?

He nodded quietly as she spoke. He knew that it was Lilianna's decision, and he would respect that. Edward would hang himself before he went groveling at her feet, begging her to choose him instead. That wasn't the type of Kitsu he was. She didn't choose him... and that was that. He would have to live with it, and move on at some point. There was a certain time for... mourning as you might say, which he was currently engaged in. But at some point, Edward would accept his fate.
But a choice? He looked up at her, trying to interpret what she meant. The teen heaved a sigh, "I won't be like that b*****d, Mustang." Meaning he didn't intend to wallow in his despair like that old fool had. He refused to be that way. Roy had been a burden to himself and those he cared for. Edward couldn't and wouldn't follow in his pawsteps.

A nod. At least the young kitsu was willing to cope and not cause an issue after actions. Heh. Determination, without that then no one would get anywhere in life. "Question is if you can continue seeing the femme without awkard reactions; if not, then give yourself some time away." At least, that's how she planned to solve things.
Setsumi looked away from the dark sky to her paws, giving a dry chuckle. "Without that b*****d, chances are you would've never survived to this day." True, the male she had once known wasn't in the best of wear, but he still did a little thing that made today possible. She smirked. "But yes, I'd have to agree with you.......don't behave as depressed as he does."
With her smirk still on, the motherly figure pointed a claw to the center of Ed's head. "Now then, when did you meet Envy?"

Edward's ears folded back. "It will be hard..." he agreed. He wasn't sure how he would be able to handle being around Lilianna at this point. "I know... things will be different from now on, but I don't want to lose her for good. The thing is... I just don't think I could stand seeing them... together." And as Setsumi had pointed out once before, Endless did seem to be a bit clingy... perhaps more than a bit.
As far as the topic of Roy... Edward just frowned, but he knew that she had a point... and thus didn't dispute it.
However, he blinked at her pointing and the question of Envy... which caused him to frown even more. "The day after Lilianna told me she'd chosen Endless. He'd been watching me, he said. His daughter... Charity... did this." A paw touching the marks on his face. But it was Envy who had dealt the worst blows with his words.

Setsumi nodded, understanding the tension that would follow after such...roles were decided. Ears pinned and she tinted slightly at the mention of them together. Of course, she was thinking too far about the 'togetherness'. But even friendly visits would be abnormal from here out. "If worse comes to worse, just avoid the other male." They wouldn't be tied to the hip at all times, or so she would like to think.
Ah...so her guess had been correct. Just a matter of playing along with the prodigy. She sighed and removed the claw. "I swear Edward. You can't keep wandering about alone when you know the dangers. Makes me a nervous wreck..." She tilted her head, surprised to hear the daughter was involved too. "..She did appear to be the most troublesome of the kits. What else?" A brow raised, concerned if there were more scares that he was trying to hide.
