I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been made yet, but if one has, just direct me to it.
Neutral Milk Hotel is a band I found out through another forum I frequent, and their album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, has to be one of my favorite albums. The lead singer has a similar sound to that of the lead singer of the Decemberists. Although I doubt they'll ever be releasing another album anytime, I feel that a large amount of people might like this band.

Wikipedia actually has a pretty decent article on NMH. It agrees with your statement that they probably won't make another album, although Jeff Mangum supposedly posted online last year that he will record and tour again. Nobody knows if it will be with NMH or not. I've heard them many times before, just don't own anything. I'll have to consider changing that fact.

My Ex tried getting me into NMH but I just couldn't for some reason. They're are really famous in the indie scene and are gods but I just can't get into them.

I'm pretty sure I made a thread... no matter, it's probably a few pages back.
Anyways, Neutral Milk Hotel is one of my favorite bands. They are absolutely amazing. Jeff Mangum is nothing short of a genius.

It's a good, solid album, and one I rather like . . . but I don't get the worship this album gets. Is it because kids these days just aren't used to music with catharsis built in?
I also blame him for the "freak folk" movement, which seems so pretentious and far removed from its roots I have no idea what it means anymore.

I heard them on LanchCast, probably just Holland, 1945. I got the album when I saw it.

I also blame him for the "freak folk" movement, which seems so pretentious and far removed from its roots I have no idea what it means anymore. Well, it's a well-composed album with excellent, heartfelt lyrics. The instrumentation is certainly on the experimental side, but the songs remain warm and accessible. Top it off with rich melodies and fine musicianship and I believe you have the workings of a masterpiece. You can spare me the indie cultural analysis. People love it because it's a great album. That's all there is to it.

I quite like In The Aeroplane Over The Sea; it's a great album, and I can understand why so many people like it. It really is a genius album. Now, as for On Avery Island.. Never could get into that album.
