Aya's silver alarm clock rang. Her hand groped along the black wooden nightstand, trying to find the snooze button on the clock.
The stand was a tad bit messy. It was overflowing with thousands of papers, clips, staples, and who knows what else.
The three drawers below it popped out as if they were teeth that needed to be straighten with braces. Inside of them were hidden stashes of cookies, potatoe chips, soda cans, and candy.
The window above Aya's bed closed in from the outside. The drapes were a dark shade of maroon and were heavy yet particularly soft. No sunshine was shown in the room. Not even a tad bit gleam of light. Her room was filled with pure darkness. Of course, the blinking neon numbers of the clock made a dim glow.
All of a sudden, the girl shot out of her bed and did an astonishing, flying leap to the bathroom.
Usually, Aya barely cared about missing a day of high school, but her mother did. She didn't want okaa-san to be dissapointed, so she tried the best she could.
The bathroom was narrow and had tiles of white and black. Technically, the whole house was either black, white, or red. Silver was fortunate, and can be spotted in only a few places in the home. Other colors than those were demolished. Aya's mother said that she couldn't stand having different colors of the rainbow lying everywhere in the house.
From a bird's view outside, the house seemed quite small; it actually looked like a cottage. But once entered, its like living in another world.
Once the energetic girl brushed her teeth, she ran back into her bedroom to change. The hallways were always long and dark. Aya's mother didn't have the slightest idea about installing lights in the hallways. Either way, the two didn't mind. A grandfather clock was propped in the middle of every hallway in the house; each represented a male figure that they lost.
Shutting the door behind her, Aya rushed to her closet. Picking out a suitable outfit, she changed quickly while spying a large waffle dotted with cinnamon lied on the table.
"I guess mom already went to work and made me breakfast" She fumbled.
Grabbing the pastry, she clutched her red backpack and darted out of the house, heading directly towards her high school.
As she passed Light's home, she
saw him walk out like usual. His sister skipped along the sidewalk with her folder in her hand.
Aya didn't even bother to say hello or good morning, because the waffle was still in her mouth, being chewed incesently.
