Apocalypse, they called it...
Judgement Day...

...their frustration stained the sky red, tinting the eternal night...

What Earth needs most,
Abandoned it;

...
the sun... died.

And humanity...
Stumbled, persevered...

...but blind in the darkness.

...there were those...

...who would never leave the darkness...
...even when it left them.

Setting

Futuristic world with the usual fantasy twist to it- the abnormalities of magic, irregular species (hybrids, new species, the like), etc.

The sun died. Yes, in reality this would probably kill us all. That is what humanity expected in this setting, but somehow... everything was simply warped into a hellish state of existence.

...slowly but surely people have been coming to peace with it, and things have been balancing out in Nature... Artificial-Solarities, for example, provide 'sunlight' for the crops... the moon is how days are tracked...

However the world is not the same. Not at all:

WWIV followed the false Apocalypse; the nuclear activity literally stained the sky red. It shows more to some than others; to few- very few, generally the middle-aged- it looks almost normal.

Also... Earth's agriculture never depended solely on Solarities before, and people have readily developed allergies to the energy produced by them, or the light produced, or in worse cases- both. (not everyone, just a rather substantial minority...) Also, due to WWIV, nuclear activity- which was already disturbing by this era- has risen to dangerous new heights. Mutation is extremely likely. The populations of the majority of Earth's creatures are diminishing, while a few- some of them rather unfortunate- flourish.

What's worse is- WWV is starting up. And as such the world is slowly, terrifyingly, settling back into turmoil.

WWV

As you might imagine, technology has much advanced by now... the trouble is that since the sun died, all rules conduct have faded into the background. The Allies and the Axis still exist, but in drastically different terms. And now there is also a group called the Dead, because in this world, if you are not allowing yourself to be or even originally not of use to either the Allies nor the Axis, they consider you as good as dead. To them, you might as well be.
I'm not going to tell you which countries are what side. You'll have to tell me which country you see yourself as in favor of (suggestively, whichever country you put yourself as from or currently residing in), and then whether you are in support of the Allies, the Axis, or the Dead. You will have to make your own decisions as to what to reveal to others...
..and what to conceal.

Mainly WWV seems to be originating in a power struggle between the nobles of the Allies and those of the Axis. To top it off, the Dead seem to be stirring up rebellion... they're tired of being pushed around, or pushed down.

Characters

There will be no pre-mades for this. Any NPCs I manipulate will not likely have a profile posted in the Profile Thread. They will be in bold text.

PM me the below form and then wait; I might ask you to change things. I'll probably offer to let you change things if you become miserable. We'll hash your character out. You can have more than one, and I do not discriminate against role-playing solely with yourself, though at one point or another it'd be nice if you could touch in with the others.
Other things, such as rank in military or government, may arise. Like I said. We'll hash it out. Feel free to suggest, or ask.

Name:
Age:
Heritage:
Current Country: (suggestably England, as that's where Xindaris (and therefore me) are... but you do have other options)
Homeland:
Appearance:
Personality:
Abilities:
Bio:

Some questions:
1. Which country do you stand for?- whichever you truly support inside. Even if your character doesn't care about this sort of thing... if the issue of loyalty ever comes up, what country will they be on the side of?

2. Supporter of the Axis, Allies, or Dead? -you can guess this according to where you think your country's loyalties lie (I'll tell you where when you answer). The point of this is to make it more interesting for you; ex: even if you stand for, say, France, France may not be on the side you support... it's called self-confliction. Well, not literally, but that's what I'm calling it.-

3. Any questions?

Emi buses the table quickly, taking her time gathering plates and than like a shot she goes the kitchen. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes her body...

The plates in her right hand crash to the floor, having fallen straight through. "Dam-"

"BOZIC!"

"-mit." She tries to keep the tears back.

...he didn't even have to look to know it was her.

((I forgot to mention it in his profile (or actually, didn't have a place for it), but Nine was synthetically made capable of speaking every current language. He doesn't actually have a German accent, nor an English one; if anything the way he speaks makes some people think he might be of American descent...))
Nine leaned against the wall. He was in an alley behind the restaurant...
He hadn't eaten in about a week, but according to the records he'd stolen that wouldn't be too much of a problem. As long as he ate something soon, he should be okay. There must be some way to earn a job here, even looking as he did...something other than being a test subject again...

"But I-"

"No, Emiko, you're really fired this time. I can't spare any more plates, not even for your... handicap," he cried, attempting to show her the door but finding his hands went straight through her back. No matter.

Downcast Emi started down the street, letting the cafe apron she'd worn slip through her form and leaving it on the street... she should've learned by now that she couldn't keep a job like this...

The sky rumbled, but she didn't look up. Didn't want to see the blood stained sky.

"Is that...rain?" he said softly to himself, half-looking up at a strange cloud and then looking back down, straight at the ground.
He walked forward...it was so irritating not knowing where he was, no place to call a home...not that he'd ever had one.
He wasn't watching his own destination, and walked through an intangible person. He whirled around in surprise as soon as realizing that, not finding it to be a comforting concept and doubting the other person did either. "Sorry," he said.

Emiko worked a blissful expression on her face, a sweet smile, and turned to whoever had walked through her. "It's fine-" she began. Staring at him for a moment, she let her expression become softer and added, "My fault for not watching where I was going. Besides, I'm used to it..."

...used to it. The smile was gone and tears smarted in her eyes.

...and for the first time, she felt like a hypocrite. At least until they walked through her, people thought there was nothing wrong with her...

"Are you all right?" she said quickly, forcing the smile back. She knew sometimes the experience was... nauseating for people. Especially those who hadn't been expecting it.

"I'm unhurt," he said. Something in his brain said, Present physical condition is at 100%; mental condition is relatively stable, and he put his hand on his head like it was a headache.
D*** nanomachines...

Frowning, Emi placed her hand on his forehead- and was relieved that it didn't go right through his skull. That would have been really uncomfortable. "Are you sure?" He didn't look quite well...

"Yes...how can you do that? I've never seen someone with that ability before..."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 26, 2007 6:05 pm

Stiffening, Emi removed her hand and shrugged rigidly. "I... don't... know how," she said slowly, calmly, resisting the temptation to ask how he managed to be born with paws... presuming he'd been born that way.

Loosening, Emi felt guilty about thinking stupid thoughts. No wonder she couldn't hold a job, she had no social skills...

"Er...it's fine, you don't have to explain," he said, figuring it was private.
ANALYSIS INDICATES BEING WAS SUBJECT TO NUCLEAR MUTATION.
Shut up!!!

((From now on, small caps will indicate nano-machines talking to him.))

^_^ 'kay.
heart

"It was in China," she said softly. "A salted bomb, I think." Emi tucks a strand of hair back and sighs. It was so strange. They had gone there to get away... and run right into it. To be polite, she refrained from asking about... him. It was probably more personal... then an impersonal bombing...

"Okay. If I look mad, don't worry, it's not you...it's..er..."
He had no idea how to explain from that point, unfortunately.
