Just here to bring attention to some things that have come to my attention. A lot of earlier animation depicts people of African decent as the stereotype of the " Smiling servile ******" the "Watermelon eating Pickininny." also " Jive talkers, idiots and all seen to be drawn in "Blackface." ( For those of you who don't know Black face is the depiction of people of African decent wit uber dark skin, huge lips, and nappy hair. Now I'm sitting here just watching this stuff and I'm thinking to myself what's the point..

Its just another example of ignorant and encryptic racism. A few others and I are trying to make a guild that discusses these issues. would you care to help us make it and possibly join?

Mmmm Walt Disney the closest thing I know to living Satan. His constant use of the communist blacklist on striking workers/writers/artists and others he disliked. His aid from ex-Nazi's in classroom film and park ride physics. And of course this odd racial move quite popular in everyday humor back then. He also had an odd dislike of Jews.

On the area of blackface I believe that groups used a particular Gaia item to simulate it. Oddly I use it now to hide my skin.

Personally I can see more in cartoon crows, blackbirds, magpies, ravens and other birds of black color in various old cartoons. Dumbo is a nice example.

Hmm lots of bucktooth Asian stereotypes in cartoons back then.

And who can forget Speedy Gonzales?

Yes old American cartoons got plenty.

Sounds interesting, I'd get in on that project. But back onto subject, I didn't really find these things as offensive as I shouldve. It's actually more annoying than anything else. These episodes have been banned and wiped from their companies histories...WTF!? The Disney company pulled this crap and only after it became publicly unacceptable they take it down.

Then they denied the very existence of these things. I remember hearing about someone asking the Disney company why there where no Black Princesses. The response they got was that Lion King already portrays an African Princess. lol I don't know about you guys but it's some of the dumbest bullcrap I've ever heard. And Odio I'm not sure but I think the item you're talking about is soot.

I never paid attention to it's similarities with Black face. The first Blackface I've ever seen in my life was from a Japanese anime. Dragonball Z's Mr. Popo.

And their are alot of racial stereotypes against Asians aswell. Disney's Proud Family has the Chang Triplets. Three siblings who are geniuses at math and have buck teeth and everything.

And yea I remember Speedy, I remember in one episode they had him living in a Tequila bottle.

Heh in my amusement I am reminded of Disney's current production of The Frog Princess to feature their first.

That girl is sure to be saved by prince whoever and tell young black girls some old money guy or even new money guy is all you need to escape obscurity.

Feeling nice and deep as I hit Boomerang and saw some native stereotypes that hit the "savages" thing like speech ((me last mohican)) and violence ((slaps hand on mouth wailing and shooting arrows)) they also kept up that feathers thing.

I wonder what's better though: Being presented as a stereotype(american animation) or barely being there, not never really having a major role(japanese animation)?

Well looking at real status Japan's isolation up to the end of WWII and the following wait till things fixed themselves have made outside racial influence on the low side for Japan. So it has an OK reason that may be respecting us "gaijin" by not forcing assumptions. Don't quote me on that last one.

Not every country has need to care about cultural assimilation like America my friend. Quote this one, has more logic.

One character intrigues me the most though... Disney disowned a prominent character in Fantasia. The little Black centaur Sunflower. Instead of re-creating her to be more positive, a great deal less offensive and an apology for the stereotyping and racism portrayed in the very existence of the character...they erased her from their archives and claimed the character never existed. Walt Disney was both a horrible man and a horrible person... sweatdrop It would be interesting if Aaron McGruder touched on that in the second season of the Boondocks.

Ooooh, better yet... Why not zoom in on the fact that throughout history, the white man has repeatedly "erased" history. 3nodding

I love how I noticed this thread so late...

Anyways, I'm very split when it comes to the videos. I really don't know whether to be insulted, because it's racist, or annoyed, because the stereotypes are so incredibly dumb. My feelings keep switching back and forth.

I'm angry for reasons like Disney deciding to put that song in Dumbo (I've never actually seen Dumbo) where the black workers are singing about being illiterate and how they should be slaving away. I'm also mad that out of all the racists examples in the Betty Boop cartoon, ours went on the longest, and the worst.

I'm annoyed though, because the watermelon stereotype is so random and dumb at the same time. Black people didn't discover watermelons... black people aren't 90% of the consumers of watermelons. So what started the stereotype that we loved them more than any other group of people?

It mostly just bothers me that it doesn't really enhance the show to add all this racism. Was there any point in the black workers singing that song? Was there any point in having the black mother in the audience in Betty Boop stuff her child's face with watermelon? Would the show have been any more or less funny without it? I don't know; but it would be less insulting.

Thats really not cool. They think they could get away with stuff like that because they're just kids. These were the cartoons that we grew up to love. Just to find out that they had racist scenes. What is up with this world we live in??!!!

stressed This makes me angry that I didn't see this before. But Anywho my opinion is just as good late as it would've been early. I think this is the worst thing I have ever heard. No Offence to people of other races, but black people are beautiful....we really are. From our shape to our color we are beautiful. If anything they should have big lips on everybody. Black ppl are not the only ones with big lips. I happen to think that people of all races know at least one or two people that are not black who have big lips. And as far as I am concerned everybody likes Fried Chicken and Watermelon. I happen to not like watermelon, because it makes me use the bathroom more than I'd like to. By the way I am not so fond of Hentai porn either. Thats terrible. To turn children's cartoons into something for adult eyes. And don't go looking it up either.... just know that it is out there. :vein By the way the Pimpcess is back so holla at me.
