Intelligence is the measure of a person's ability to comprehend and work through a logical process to the correct answer.

Wisdom is knowing whether or not it's worth the trouble to do so.

Wit is being able to figure out how to get around it or get someone else to do it for you.

So which is more important do you think? Or do they just all go together? Is it possible to have one or more without the other(s)?

Con men/scammers/grifters are wonderful examples of high Wit, low Intelligence. They don't necessarily know what they're talking about, but they're good at making you think they do.

A priest could be used as an example of high Wisdom, moderate Intelligence, and low Wit. They've read the Book and been around the block a few times, even have a few gems to help people who need a bit of advice, but when it comes to quick improvisations on the fly... they're not terribly proficient.

Personally I think I'm a bit higher on the sides of Intelligence and Wit than Wisdom.

Which do you think you fall into? Which do you favour?

I think it all depends on what you do with your life. Depending on what you do and how you act, wisdom, wit, and intelligence are valued and utilized differently.

Based from the first post, I'd like to choose intelligent and wit rather than wisdom. Wisdom can be different from person to person as in some might consider their problem worth the trouble while the other might think it's not. It's a bit hard to measure then. confused

To me, Intelligent means that you are able to understand, identify and solve problem systematically. Having wit means that you can apply your intelligent practically and use it as your shortcut to solve your problem, whether this is done intuitively or not. Solving problem is a crucial skill to me, so that's why I pick this two choice. smile

To me, wisdom is pretty much the same as common sense. It doesn't take someone extremely intelligent to have knowledge about how the world works. I value wisdom for that reason. Some of the most book-smart people I've known have had precious little actual life experience, and were very naive.

This reminds me of Huckleberry Finn when he had to paint the fence. He had a high wit. He was also lazy, which is often accosiated with wit. Of coarse, there are many different kinds of wit. Strategical wit would be being good at games like chess. Some people are good at manipulating people.

Based on the first post descriptions, it would seem that a wise person might know when it is and isn't worth the effort to nut something through, but without intelligence, they won't be able to nut something through when they know it's important to do so. That would suck.

Someone with intelligence will probably end up doing too much if they don't have the wisdom to know when they should/shouldn't - that, or they'll do what they can and it might be misdirected.

Wit is an ok survival skill, as far as conservation of energy goes, but there will inevitably be times when the witty can't get around/get out of something, and then they'll find it difficult if they lack intelligence to do it.

So, you probably need some of all of the above, or you'll get caught out sometimes.

Intelligence is the most important in my opinion, but also wisdom can help you in important (and even common) decisions.
Wit can be quite helpful in some situations.
So I think it's better to have a good equilibrium of the 3.

I don't think it's a matter of which is more important. I believe it's a matter of understand which one you excel in. I, myself think that most of my intellect falls under wisdom, and wit. Intelligence, not so much. sweatdrop

Wisdom is obviously the most vital. Without the wisdom to use intelligence or wit, then people would be screwed.

Another member of this guild posted a thread about Intelligence, Wisdom and Knowledge. In this thread, he basically said that if you're Knowledgeable, you know lots of information and facts, if you're Intelligent you can process the Knowledge you already have well and use it to your advantage effectively and if you're Wise, you're both Knowledgeable and Intelligent. I agree totally with him on that.

Having said that, I believe simply that if you're Witty, your mind works fast and you can come to the conclusions of your goals (whatever they may be) fast.

They're all very useful, but I don't see why anyone would choose to be Intelligent or Knowledgeable alone, when there's the option of being Wise. I believe that Wit is a product of Intelligence and that if you're not Intelligent you can't get much Knowledge, and that'd rule out the possibility of being Wise.

So in my eyes, it really looks like the question you're asking is 'What's more important, Knowledge or Intelligence?'. My answer to that question would be Intelligence for the above mentioned reasons.
