I think that someone should create a list of the candidates and their positions on the different topics. Maybe a guild project? Is this feasible? one of our guild members thenerdqueen came up with this idea and I want to know if anyone would be interested in doing this biggrin

Since it was my question, of course I would like to help. Maybe if you divy up the candidates, give each volunteer one.... that way the project is less daunting.

Do people pay attention to these? Because nobody has replied with a "No thanks", either. If we are going to, can we please work on it during the summer? I have 7 Honors/AP classes burning_eyes when we get back to school, so I doubt I'll have much spare time...

How about only doing the Democrats? (I doubt that the Republicans will win, because of Bush... and Independents don't usually drum up enough votes)

That'd be biased! xd
Thompson pulled off a tie with Clinton, in fundraising and a few polls. Everyone is waiting for him to announce that he's actually running...
Actually, he made about 3 million dollars more in funds than Hillary! GO THOMPSON!

so we will profile those who are currently running
to the best of my knowledge the current list is this
Democrats: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. and for the Republicans we have John McCain and Rudi Guliani. does anyone know of anyone else currently in the race?

you know guys you can do this if you like but I've come to realize that I really don't have the time to thoroughly research a candidate considering how many hours I'm getting at work. Sorry I would like to but I just don't have the time. Being an adult sucks!

New to the guild here... But I just wanted to say I would love to help research candidates' positions. I'm a political junkie, and not to sound cool or anything, but I ran for office and worked on a congressional campaign, so politics is in my blood.
I've been following both Republicans and Democrats closely as far as the Presidential race.
The Republican list is fine, though Jim Gilmore dropped out of the race last week. The rest of the candidates are still in it for now, though Huckabee and Tommy Thompson might drop out soon.
As for the Democrats, here's the most updated list:
Sen. Hillary Clinton Sen. Barack Obama Former Sen. John Edwards Gov. Bill Richardson Rep. Dennis Kucinich Sen. Joe Biden Sen. Chris Dodd Former Sen. Mike Gravel
Tom Vilsack dropped out a few months ago.
So I would be happy to help in any way I can.
A few things I thought of.
1) I guess we would have to figure out the most important position to guild members to show for each candidate.
2) Some candidates are long-shots, but I think in the interest of fairness it would be good to show all the candidates' views, and let people make up their minds for themselves.
3) I'm a big proponent of third-party parties and candidates, but I can understand not profiling them here, as to be realistic, they have no chance of winning the elections. Also, many third parties won't figure out who's running until 2008. But if anyone has any questions on third parties or candidates, I'll be happy to try to help.
4) As for Independent Candidates, I think if Mayor of NYC Mike Bloomberg runs, he will have a significant impact on the race. For one thing, he's already put aside a BILLION dollars for his campaign if he decides to run. But nobody knows he's running for sure.
5) Sorry if I seem like a busybody, but politics is one thing I'm really passionate about, so I like to talk about it at all times. Obviously my views are not the views of the rest of the guild, but if people want to know about candidates and parties, etc, I am big on presenting that information in a completely neutral non-biased way. I think information is the big key for voters and people who want to be more interested in politics.
6) Sorry this is so long..Like a politican, I tend to talk too much.. redface

Well, we only have a month left before school starts, so here the updated list:
Republicans
Sen. Sam Brownback ? Rudi Guliani Former Gov. Mike Huckabee Rep. Duncan Hunter Sen. John McCain Rep. Ron Paul Former Gov. Mitt Romney Rep. Tom Tancredo Former Gov. Tommy Thompson
Democrats
Sen. Hillary Clinton Sen. Barack Obama Former Sen. John Edwards Gov. Bill Richardson Rep. Dennis Kucinich Sen. Joe Biden Sen. Chris Dodd Former Sen. Mike Gravel
1) What positions should we show? Good question, maybe we should do a list?
2 and 3) If you can think of any Independents who are declared and taking their campaign seriously, I don't see why we couldn't do them. My main purpose in this project was to figure out who would be better between Obama and Clinton, but I now realize that the race isn't really between the two of them.
4) True, if he runs it will be of significant importance. However, he hasn't declared yet.
5 and 6) No problemo chica, I would love you to help with this project, and get involved with the guild too.
And your post isn't that long; have you seen some of the debates over in E.D.?

Well, as you could probably tell as two months have gone by, with nary a peep from me, it's been easier said than done trying to come up with a list of stances for all the Presidential candidates.
Working overtime at work, and taking care of sick family members have left me very little free time, and though I probably should have some something sooner, I'm letting everyone know that I've got too much on my plate, and won't be able to do it. So I'm sorry about that.
