Rather than doing seperate topics for all of these, I'm just going to make a single one. And to start off, I'll stick in my most recent to characters - they were 'born' yesterday. So expect many changes ^.^ These two haunt the town of Beroborough, where Foxglove is set. It's a nice, small little place in the English countryside. It's kind of like Everytown UK - it has a woods, a beach, a city centre, apparently everything. Note: A constant theme behind Foxglove is that basically all creatures of myth still exist. They just look like humans. The theory is that they all have three forms - an illusionary (human, in most cases), a 'real' (the actual creature, hence a fox for kitsune, a dragon for dragons, etc), and an ethereal (their essence, usually elemental). Coin and Denali have invisible illusionary forms - they are invisible to everyone except other creatures of myth. EDIT - 26/7/07Quote: Coin:Gender: Male Age: ? Hair: Blonde, short and spiky Eyes: Blue Stature: Tall, strong Costume: traditional Celtic with a blood-stained bandage around his neck Birthday: ? Location: Beroborough Description: A raven of the spirit kind, Coin accompanies his best friend, Denali, on his nightly trips through Beroborough. He enjoys taunting people, and blinking (note: blinking is like teleporting short distances, for those who aren't up to date with D&D) from lamp pole to lamp pole. As a young man, Coin’s tribe was massacred by a rival group, taken by surprise. Furious and shamed, Coin’s spirit clung to his body even as the ravens descended to devour it. He prayed for revenge, and swore to serve whatever spirit that delivered it for all eternity. The Morrigna answered his call. Badb instilled within him a warrior’s spirit to take revenge and kill the murderer of his family, but once this was done, Coin had a debt to pay. Nemain transformed him into a crow so that he would have to devour the corpse of the man he’d killed, and the bandage around his neck was placed there to remind him of his debt – it dipped into the fresh corpse and got the blood on it, which will never wash away or become dry. In an act of mercy, the final goddess of the Morrigna, Morrigan herself, allowed him to shift into his human form at will, but at the price of never being seen by humans again. Though he is invisible, he can still be heard.Full Physical Description: Coin has dark-rimmed narrow eyes with thin eyelashes, small blue irises with large pupils, pale skin, a straight sloped nose, a fair chin, small round ears, thin blonde eyebrows, and short spiky blonde hair. He has a fit body of around nineteen to mid-twenties. Coin has normal hands, and clawed nails. Full Raven Description: As a spirit raven, Coin is a normal raven with a white piece of bandage tied around his neck. The ends of this appear to have been dipped in blood, which remains permanently wet. Personality: bright, annoying Likes: shiny things, playing, tricks Dislikes: being scolded Name: “Coin” Abilities: invisibility, blink Theme song: Quote: Guy Trash:Gender: Male Age: ? Hair: Black, mid-length, rough beardEyes: Yellow or green Stature: Very tall, fit Costume: archaic black clothing with a chain wound around his neck and left arm, black torn remains of a capeBirthday: ? Location: Beroborough Description: Guy is Beroborough’s Barguest (or bahrgeist, he insists) and haunts the town in his invisible human form, visible only to other spirit entities. He stalks along an ancient road that runs through Beroborough and through the nearby woods. Travellers lost in the woods near his path may be lucky enough to be guided back to safety by the creature. When he arrives in the town, all the dogs in the area give one bark in unison. Guy was formerly a lord, sometime in the Middle Ages, and was involved in many cruel activities including torture and rape. In revenge, he was murdered by a mob who accused him of black magic and buried him at a crossroads, with a stake through his heart. When Guy’s spirit ‘awoke’, he found himself chained to the stake with the chains of sin, and although he fought and fought, Guy could not free himself. After weeks of this, Guy’s desperate wailing attracted the attention of the Barguest of the area, which appeared to be a huge black bear. It offered to use its strong jaws to bite through the ethereal chains and set him free, under one condition – that he take its place as Barguest, allowing its soul to go on to the next world. The desperate lord agreed, and thus began Guy’s existence as the Beroborough Barguest. His first name was Guy, but ‘Trash’ was given to him by his friend and constant companion, Coin, for two reasons. One is his former reputation as an amoral man, literally moral ‘trash’, and the other the irony of ‘Gytrash’, another kind of Barguest.Full Physical Description: Guy has large, dark-rimmed eyes with thin eyelashes, large yellow or green irises and sometimes slit pupils, pale skin, a straight nose, a strong chin, small pointed ears, thin black eyebrows, and mid-length shiny black hair. He has a tall, strong body that appears to be around 30 years old. Guy has normal hands, which are usually grimy with black mud. His eyes glow when using an ability. A Picture Tells A Thousand WordsFull Barguest Description: As a black dog, Guy is about the size of a calf and has black shaggy fur. His eyes are fiery and he has long sabre-like fangs that protrude past his lips, the left one broken. He has a chain around his neck, wound around twice and then once around his left foreleg, which drags on the ground behind him. His eyes are usually huge and saucer-like, yellow in colour with no pupils, but can change to red and green. A Picture Tells A Thousand WordsPersonality: quiet, pensive Likes: silence, isolation, night time Dislikes: noise, disrespect Name: Abilities: invisibility, blink, curse-call Theme song: “The Riders Of Theoden” (A Lord of the Rings song...) Man, 'Guy Trash'. Cheesy, but oh so true on so many levels... I really have to stop creating characters. sweatdrop

I think "Guy Trash" is one of the most awesome random character names out there, up in league with Shrapnel and Minestrone. Trashy (totally his new nickname) interests me, although might I ask exactly how someone's soul "awakens"?

This is going to take some explaining.
In Foxglove and Unnamed Fantasy 1, the world as we know it is made up of three levels:
Material - the one we exist in Immaterial - Just over the top of the Material level, some creatures dwell only here. It exists as a place for ethereal beings to have form, and affect the material world - kind of like a sandwiched layer Ethereal - ghosts and spirits
Every creature has two parts - the material (your body) and ethereal (your soul). When you die, your body stays in the material, and you 'awaken' after losing conciousness in death into the ethereal. Monsters that transform, like the kitsune, need to return to an ethereal form by sinking into the immaterial level for a few seconds, vapourising their bodies (the smoke that emits from them) and then returning to solidify it.
A ghost that awakens is usually escourted to wherever they go (none of the characters know, since they've never been), but if they have certain chains attached to them, they can't leave their bodies. Coin had the chains of revenge, and Guy the chains of sin. To leave their material body, they need to strike a deal - this is where Hell comes in. If they strike a deal with the devil, then sure, they get to leave their bodies. They do have to go to Hell, though, so... fun fun fun.
A soul can also strike a deal with an immaterial creature to leave their body. If it's a god, like in Coin's case, there's usually some kind of duty attached to it. The first Barguest of that area would have taken the same kind of deal with an ancient god. Since it's every spirit's quest to get into another world, striking a deal with one bound to the immaterial level will probably entitle you taking its place so that it can move on, as in Guy's case.
A ghost that stays chained to its body for too long will eventually move to the immaterial, but won't be able to move far from its body because of the chains - thus 'haunting' a place. The less severe their sin (or the more intense their emotion, like in Coin's case) will give them a longer chain.
It's worth noting that at certain times of the year or to certain sensitive people, the immaterial world can be seen. Mirrors also reflect it, and cameras can catch it. So your best bet in seeing it is to go out on Halloween with a camera and mirror to a place where monsters have been seen, and hope for the best.
And yeah... I like 'Guy Trash' too. Interesting fact: He's one of two characters based on an English relief teacher we have at school (who's really hot... and insanely tall... well, anyway...), and I don't actually know this teacher's name. I used to refer to him as 'Angelo' (the other character, who ended up looking more like Orlando Bloom, anyway), but now I just look at him and think 'Guy'. Though... he's probably going to become 'Trashy' now.
Poor man. First the inspiration for a murderous lord and a bisexual wimpy android, now with the nickname Trashy. I almost feel sorry for him...
EDIT: I just found out that he already has several other nicknames, from the other students, including 'Jesus', 'Bonds Underwear Model' and 'Vulfy The Verevulf'.

This guy belongs to Thesis 48, and as such, is quite the alien. I sure wouldn't like to meet him in a dark alley, I can tell you... Quote: Ridik:Gender: Male Age: Equivelent 26 human years Hair: None... Eyes: Green Stature: Very tall Costume: Two metal gauntlets, the left one with a raygun attached, a kind of chest-plate thing with a large metal collar with lights on it, a green bar of lights on the side indicates force-field charge, bare mid-drift, a black belt with Space Core emblem (stolen), dark grey skin-tight trousers with black grips on the sides of the thighs. Birthday: ? Location: Private space ship, gliding around the galaxy somewhere Description: Ridik is a space pirate, and thus earns his ill-gotten gains by illegally smuggling goods, creatures and technology across the galaxy. He's a bit of a vicious sort, and loathes the Space Core (whom he and his crew often attacks out of spite) with a passion unmatched. He likes to take trophies of their uniforms and goods, with the Space Core emblem on them. When encountered by our 'heroes', Ridik had hijacked Angelo's ship and stolen his Space Core necklace, and Angelo (note: at this stage, he's another space pirate) was chasing him to get them back. A mini-pirate war over the planet Skaz ensued, with several under-handed tactics being used by both sides. Ridik's group was defeated eventually by increasing the gravity on their gravity field and making their snake-like heads too heavy to carry above their necks. Ridik himself is an android, and thus, although driven out, remains undefeated. Full Physical Description: Ridik is a freakin' huge lizard, standing on his back legs something like a humanoid dinosaur. He reaches about two meters in height, with dark purple skin and yellow frills on the sides of his face and tail. His tail is the length of about half his height. Ridik has a long, snake-like neck with a reptillian head on the end which can be manuvered through the air thanks to the low gravity of his homeworld and on his ship. He has black spikes on his neck near the top of his head which can be made erect. He has sharp little teeth, a small horn on the end of his nose, a forked tongue and scarring over the left side of his face. Each hand has two clawed fingers and a thumb. Note: All of Ridik's crew also look something like this, in varying shades of purple and dimensions. The main differences Ridik possesses is that he's taller, has the scars and that his eyes have no pupils, marking him as an android. However, his irises are so small anyway that this is hard to notice (and the plot rests on the reader not noticing it, as it's hopefully going to be a comic). Personality: vicious, brash Likes: Galat Max - an alcoholic drink, sunlight, weapons Dislikes: the Space Core, incompetence, being made to feel stupid Name: Theme song: "Parlay" - Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End

This time, a kitsune. This guy, of course, belongs to Foxglove, and is the head of one of the thirteen clans - Yamako, in fact, the 'mountain' kitsune with power over ice and snow. EDIT: 20 July 2007Quote: Ginrei Yamako:Gender: Male Age: 950 Hair: long, white, has a long plait Eyes: Dull brown, like all Yamako Stature: tall and thin, especially long legs Costume: Cream trousers, brown snakeskin shoes, a silver-buckled black belt, tight royal purple felt tailed coat with mother-of-pearl buttons, white/cream cravat, lacy shirt under the coat, sometimes white gloves. A Picture Tells A Thousand WordsBirthday: 1058 – Yang Earth Dog (Note: All the Yamako were born in 'Earth' years. It's one of those little things I stuck in there for my future fans to unearth. *cough cough* Ego? I have no idea what you're talking about!) Location: Yamako Realm, which he maintains using his magic. Description: Head of Yamako, he has ownership of the gold, silver, copper, black granite, turquoise and obsidian rings. (The rings are the Yamako's version of an 'amulet' - each kitsune clan has one which is owned by the head of the family. In the Yamako's case, the kitsune with the most of the nine rings and the gold ring is the leader. It does tend to give them a 'pimped' look, but still. It works.) Ginrei is Fubuki’s uncle, and a shifty individual indeed. He seems to be friendly, but is a very suave and seductive man with a hidden agenda – he is a greedy kitsune and gains his power not by study but by sucking ki in an incubus manner from other beings. He has an ill reputation for making women fall in love with him, sucking all their energy out and then tossing them aside. As a result, his ‘wife’ is estranged from her former loving partner. Ginrei is much hated by Fubuki, as he killed Fubuki’s father ( by shoving his hand down his throat and draining him of life) in order to gain the obsidian, copper, turquoise, silver and jade rings, and Fubuki is constantly compared to him for his philandering habits. He's an important character in Fubuki and Shigure's lives, though in a complex way. It's something like this:
Fubuki was Shigure's best friend (Shigure was really little, though... like... ten. Where Fubuki was almost 100). Ginrei killed Fubuki's father, and exiled Fubuki > Fubuki left without warning > Shigure felt abandoned > Shigure became all stoic > every problem Shigure has at the moment.Note: Fubuki is one of the Foxglove main characters, and another Yamako. He looks a lot like Ginrei, except in a white suit and without the plait. And he's a lot nicer, of course... Personality: cool, suave, greedy Likes: magic, magic, magic, easy women, magic, martinis Dislikes: Kakos Name: His Kanji means “Silver-snow-capped-mountain Mountainfox” Theme song: "Stimulation” – Wa Wa Nee Abilities: At 1000, Ginrei has perfected every ability a Yamako can have. In essence, he has the power to create, summon and control snow and ice in any way he wishes.

EDIT: I just realised I deleted another post to put this in. I pressed 'edit' instead of 'quote'. I am thinking of a four-letter word, starts with an 'f', any guesses? - - - A character from a story that comes out of my single fantasy world, this guy needs a bit of clarification about his context right now. 1. He is in a swords-and-shields all-male warrior society. 2. His country is something like Socialist. Because I can. 3. He's got purple skin and the lable 'elf', but he's not immortal or specially magical. Quote: Intrick Onering:Gender: Male Species: Wood elf Age: 40-something Hair: dark-grey in two thin plaits Eyes: blue Stature: tall and willowy, but still lean Costume: Kurado ('Swordsman' in their language, basically, but is used to describe the armed forces) armour; ie. padded armour with some chainmail. Also has a white sash to wear around his waist on special occasions - he's a Vice-Captain of a squad, and their associated colour is white. Location: Somewhere near the Tamicti's caravan (the Tamicti being male prostitutes, and who he and his men guard) Description: Onering is quite normal for a Kurado - he protects his captain, respects authority and helps his subordinates. He's quite wary and suspicious of all, but since he is the bodyguard of a very... vulnerable... person, he has to be. Rumours have been spread that Onering has a sexual relationship with this person he's supposed to be protecting (the head of the Tamicti and captain of the 14th squad, an odd man named Baku Lowdreamer), and there certainly seems to be an attachment there, but nothing has ever been confirmed. The tattooed markings on Onering's face would also indicate that he has been sexually assaulted in the past, but it'd be easier to get a rock to fetch a ball than coax Onering into talking about it. He's a fairly major character, and his background stays in the shadows for the entire story. At the end though... he dies. So no one ever finds out. Ha ha. Full Physical Description: N/A at the moment. Personality: As previously stated, wary and suspect of everything and everyone. He's a quiet type, and a man of very, very few words. Likes: his job, Baku Dislikes: interrogation by others over his past, 'situations' - what he calls any situation where things may go well or get worse depending on his decision. Occupation: Vice-Captain 14th Squad, White Snow Name: Not entirely sure...

I have a new hero, people. His name is Leon Trotsky, and you may know him as Lenin's right hand man. I have always admired him, but after studying him in history, I can fairly say that he's my hero. How does this relate to a new character, I hear you ask? (Well, actually I don't, but...) Trotsky has appeared in almost every story I've planned in the past - never as himself, but in reference. To honour him, the character below was created. As a side note, the other biggest reference was in Foxglove - Ike Kako, who plays a similar role in Shigure's revolution as Trotsky did in Lenin's, plays a trick on his science class to see how world-wise they are, calling himself 'Lev Bronstein'. The main characters work out that this was Trotsky's original name, or something, a nod in the direction of Ike's future role. He also says to Shigure at one point: "If you be my Lenin, I'll be your Trotsky". Unfortunately, Shigure ends up being his Stalin, in more ways than one. To the point: this gentleman is from Thesis 48/Red Dog, and thus is sci-fi themed. EDIT - 19/8/2007Quote: Snowball Kartensky:Gender: Male Type: Terra-made Android, first series Age: ? Created in 1940, but the actual time the story takes place is not specified except 'after 2000' Hair: Dark, dark brown. Used to be grey, but he was damaged in a ship crash and had to have it replaced, electing for a more youthful colour. Eyes: Two large glass disks, about 1.5 inches in diameter and half an inch deep, attached where his eyes should be. They're frosted glass, so just look like really, really thick opaque lenses (think the Professor from Futurama). They work as light sensors - Snowball is colour blind. Stature: Pointless me saying - let's just say that Snowball looks exactly like Leon Trotsky in every way except for the eyes and ice pick wound. Costume: Dark blue military-style jacket with high collar, sort of Prussian style, with three Space Core pips on shoulder, dark dress trousers, pointed leather shoes. Sometimes wears a black leather coat instead of jacket and black leather gloves. Location: Solar Orbital Lifehold (a space station), Wing 959, Room 5001 Description: At one stage, the adris were quite eager to share their technology with other races. One such incident was the gift of droid technology to humanity – which they gratefully accepted. The adris returned later (in 1940) to see what progress had been made, and found only one droid created by US forces (to whom the technology had been given to) – an advanced, intelligent droid in the shape of a human. However, they found that it had been created to look like an important human so that the US intelligence could undermine the Soviet government (conspiracy, I tell you!), and promptly confiscated the droid and the technology and erased the people who had worked on the project. The droid was re-activated back on SOL, and revealed that it had not yet been programmed to any purpose or particular identity. The adris warmed to it, and gave it both of these – Snowball Kartenskyt, Wing Captain. Snowball hates being compared to the man he's modelled on, and because his personality is crafted to be the same (but a little more compliant and non-communist) he is compared very often. The wing he is captain of happens to house janitors, including the main characters - he has a special dislike for our human hero, who went through his room and stole a lot of his clothes when they first met, and later directed a large amount of abuse towards a computer. As a robot, Snowball felt this incredibly offensive and has gone on to loathe him. He is known for his insanely tidy habits and right eyebrow twitch, both malfunctions due to age and one too many spot checks by moderators on the state of the often-chaotic wing. Being first series, Snowball is prone to malfunction. The commander of the ship, and the one who decided to keep him, Bzzt Kavolip, says that in his day he was very advanced, but comparing Snowball to a bot these days would be like comparing a stop watch to an Apple Mac. He's slowly been moved down the ranks without actually stripping him of any - he was in charge of elite guards, now he watches over janitors, but he was always a Wing Captain. As proved in a later story, Snowball was programmed only to mimic human emotions and was given his self-awareness during a repair (he was only ever updated when he was in an accident that knocked him offline, including the ship crash above). This means that he doesn't possess a lot of emotions he should have, or gets them from the wrong things - he's never happier than when playing chess, and could go on for hours upon hours just playing against himself.Full Physical Description: Trotsky, period. Personality: neat, occasionally ruthless, often arrogant. Very sympathetic towards other computers and machinery, but not to organic creatures. Likes: chess and war games, order, his coat and a gynoid main character named Angie. He tried dating her for a while, but they broke it off on mutual conditions - she was in electronic love with another android, and Snowball is a first edition android, meaning that his wires just don't cross in a way that lets him be anything but sympathetic. Dislikes: the hero, people mistaking him for Trotsky (he has been asked if he knows Elvis, the theory behind this being that if he's still alive, then just maybe...), the auto-pilot on his personal ship (it hates him back - such are the blessings of having AI) Occupation: Wing Captain Name: Snowball - the name of the pig in George Orwell's Animal Farm that acted in place of Trotsky. In the story, the name was voted for by the crew of SOL, and he had a choice between that and 'Leon'. Kartenskyt - No idea where this came from, but may have something to do with Karensky.

I hope to find a copy of My Life, his autobiography.
Perhaps I should add that I'm not Marxist...? I think it's a futile dream. But I admire the fact that he found what he believed in, worked towards it with everything he had, and kept going even when he'd been exiled, threatened and even attempts had been made on his life.
I also see his personality and position in social groups as very similar to my own. I'm an arrogant person, and I think I can safely say that he's the first person I've looked at in history and thought: "This person is my equal on all fronts". This probably isn't true - by that I mean he was a much greater person than I am - and that's why he's now my hero. This is an example of what I could be. Let's work towards it.
I'm hoping Snowball won't offend anyone. I'm entering a story centering on him into our Creative And Performing Arts Festival at school - fingers crossed.

Androids are basically just electronic people. The underpinning scifi quality of the stories is that other races in the universe are more advanced than us, and in this case, that technology was upgraded into a droid built by humans.
They aren't like computers that just follow a program and know nothing else. You may know the Chinese room experiment, or whatever they call it? It's not like that. While no one can prove that they think or genuinely understand, they do seem to and can argue their case if they need to.
Generally in 'likes' and 'dislikes', I'd just put a few examples of things that summarise their personality and any hobbies if they have them. In Snowball's case, that is all that he likes and all that his dislikes. He's got a very limited sense of what's nice and what's not, generally to do with what agrees with his programmed personality and what doesn't.
I realise that's a bit vague, but I hope it gives you some idea.

Ah. I understand, I'm just more used to different views. I follow Asimov's robotics hardcore. His are basically hardwired machines with human physical and intellectual capacities, but I find a human-designed creation capable of abstract emotions to be beyond the boundaries of credibility. Which is why I'm so fond of robots. 3nodding
