author's notes: this was a contest entry for the topic of 'emergencies'. i tied for first along with my friend silver moon droplet and i've gotten a lot of positive feedback. this is a canon fic.

People make mistakes. s**t happens. People get hurt. And good men will always die in the end. I must say, I knew a few good men myself. I grew up around them my entire life. I was taught everything I know from them. I developed friendships with them, I had a good laugh or two with them, and now I mourn with Aerith at their funerals.
There are always going to be questions that go unanswered. But the ultimate unsolved mystery is this: why must good men die? I’m wondering this while I stand over his grave, a few stubborn tears still streaming down my face. Aerith lays a pair of flowers on all of their graves, and she wraps her arm around my shoulder trying her best to comfort me.
I’ve heard all the bogus answers before like, “it was their time to go” or “fate” or some other lame excuse. I just can’t seem to get a straight answer. And I then can’t help to think that somehow, it’s my entire fault that they’re all dead. It’s my entire fault that Squall and Cid and Cloud are all dead…

In a plot-heavy, emotionally-charged, brilliant way.
I like how the opening and conclusion have that reocurring theme about good men dying and all. That's a nice touch.

Mutters piece of crap... YEAH RIGHT! that was freaking awesome... in a morbid and sad way but i like the way you had it turn out.. it had a good sad effect.

homg. That was SWEET.
I mean, not the Cid, Cloud and Leon all died, but just how the died. (omg that sounded really bad. It's not like that. It was just the plot idea.) It was a little short and went a little fast, but other than that I loved it. Good job.
