Confirmed Staff For This Event: Brazoliange Jinx Modarius
...any further staff volunteers would be appreciated. Please get in touch with me if you are willing to help run events, host people, or otherwise help out with this event.
Housing: I have space to host at least 6 people for this event; if you want to stay with me I would advise bringing blankets/a pillow/a sleeping bag if possible. I'm working on getting more furniture down here, as well as some carpeting, but as it stands my basement has a stone floor. If you'd like to stay at my place, get in touch with me. Otherwise, there are a lot of hotels within 5 minutes of FFC. If anyone else in the area can host people for this event, please let me know.
Equipment disclaimer: Neither I nor FFC will take responsibility for any stolen items, although we will try to ensure it doesn't happen. If you bring a GameCube/GC controllers/any bemani controllers, you are responsible for keeping an eye on them. I would also suggest putting your name on anything which you bring with for extra safety.
If you are willing to donate any controllers, TVs, game systems, video games, or anything else for use in this event, please contact me and let me know.
Food/Beverages: FFC has a general selection of arcade food, including pizza, nachos, popcorn, soda, hot dogs, and other items. There are a large number of other restaurants/fast food places in a very near vicinity to FFC, as well as several grocery stores.
FFC accomodations As told to me personally by both of the owners, on tournament days, "the people participating in and running the tournaments have priority over all other customers". As such, they are making very large arrangements to make this as successful as possible for us.
-We will be moving more than 20 cabinets out of the arcade to give us more space. All of the dancing games and some of the others will be moved approx. 20 feet back from their current spots. This will give a large area in the middle of all of the Bemani, as well as lower noise interference between games. -FFC will provide discounts if we buy larger orders of food or drink; example, a free 4th pizza if we buy 3 large pizzas. -FFC will provide discounts on their other amusements, such as laser tag and mini-golf. -All games will be on freeplay for the tournaments. -FFC will likely provide a projector to play the SSBM tournaments on.
Specifics will be announced at a later date or at the tournament. Be assured that FFC is working to make this a successful set of events.
Prizes: There will be cash prizes for the top 3 placers in each tournament. The pot for all tournaments will be split 70/25/5%.
Registration Fee When signing up for any tournaments, all participants are subject to a one-time, non-refundable fee of $5. This will be given to FFC in exchange for letting us run it there. This will only be paid once and will not need to be paid again when signing up for any other tournaments.
Tournament rules:
Disclaimer: These rules can be changed at any time if neccesary; if they are, however, I will post here saying that they were changed. Additionally, if a tournament is not possible because of a lack of time or non-functioning equipment, I reserve the right to cancel that tournament. We are doing everything possible to have EVERYTHING in perfect working order in time for this though, so take it as an "if" and not a "when".
DDR Extreme (both tournaments): - $10 Perfect Attack Tech - $5 Endurance
Perfect Attack Tech Rules
- All songs are allowed - Songs will be scored by PA (Best of 3 songs) - No 10-footers until the semi-finals and finals - No Little - Freezes on. - Solo must be agreed upon by both players. - No speed cap (any speed modifier allowed) - Flip a coin at beginning of all matches; winner picks either 1st and 3rd songs and difficulties or side and 2nd song; loser picks the other. - Each player picks their own modifications. - If both players fail, the chooser of the song is the loser for that song. - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in the tournament.
This tournament will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION. All mods excluding the ones listed above will be allowed. Bar will be allowed. Players will be seeded with a qualifying song. Qualifier will be announced day of tournament. Ties for matches will result in a random song tiebreaker.
Grading System for Perfect Attack Tech
Perfect = 2 points Greats = 1 points Goods = 0 points Almost = 0 points Boo = 0 points O.K. = 1 points N.G. = 0 points
(Please do not push the Green Button until scores are written down)
Player with most points wins the song.
King of the Hill (Endurance)
- Random Seeding - 8 footers or higher on heavy are allowed - Songs will be scored by noncombo/miss count (Best of 3 songs) - No Little - Freezes on. - No speed cap (any speed modifier allowed) - Each player picks their own modifications. - Coin flip at beginning of all matches; winner picks either 1st and 3rd songs or side and 2nd song; loser picks the other. - If both players fail, the chooser of the song is the loser for that song. - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in the tournament.
This tournament will be SINGLE ELIMINATION. Bar will be allowed. Ties for matches will result in a random song (8-10 foot) tiebreaker.
(Please do not push the Green Button until miss counts are written down)
Player with least noncomboes/misses wins the song.
Pump It Up New Xenesis Crazy (Speed): - $10 Speed (Crazy)
- Bar is ALLOWED - Songs will be scored by money score (Best of 3 songs) - Songs above a 17 on Zero or 3 skulls on NX (depending on version which is there) cannot be picked until semi-finals/finals - Players choose their own mods. - Coin flip at beginning of all matches; winner picks either 1st and 3rd songs or side and 2nd song; loser picks the other. - If both players fail a song, the chooser of the song is the loser for that song. - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in the tournament - No long versions of songs; anything picked must be from Arcade Station (this includes the Another channel if it is held on Zero)
This tournament will be SINGLE ELIMINATION. All mods will be allowed. Bar will be allowed. Players will be seeded with a qualifying song. Qualifier will be announced day of tournament. Ties for matches will result in a random song tiebreaker.
Player with highest money score wins the song.
Pop'n Music FEVER: - $8 Score tournament
- Songs will be round-based. A set song will be chosen for each round (determined by a random generator on a computer; if this is not ready in time, a non-participating Pop'n player will choose songs). All players will play the given song, and will be ranked by their money score. The player(s) with the lowest money score will be knocked out. This will continue until semi-finals or finals. - For semi-finals and finals, each player will choose 1 song. Each player will play each song and will be ranked on each song. The player(s) with the lowest overall rank on the four songs will be dropped. - Players choose their own mods. - Random/Sran/Mirror will NOT be allowed - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in the semi-finals/finals. - Long versions will be disallowed for time constraints. - Passing or failing a song has no bearing; score is the only determining factor.
IIDX DistorteD: -$8 Score tournament
- There will be a qualifying song to determine seeding. This will be announced day of tournament, and will be a 9 in difficulty. - This tournament will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION. - Ex score (2x flashing great count + 1x normal great count) will be used for scoring. - Matches will happen as follows: each player will pick a song and difficulty (A+B). Player 1 will play A, Player 2 will play A, Player 1 will play B, Player 2 will play B. If neither player wins on both songs, a 3rd song will be randomed. - Best 2/3 songs wins. - All mods are allowed, including Random and Sran; however, use these at your own risk, as a bad random will still count as your play for a song. - Passing or failing a song has no bearing; score is the only determining factor. - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in this tournament. - Players choose their own mods.
In the Groove 2 FA: -$10 Fantastic Attack Tournament
- Bar is ALLOWED - Scoring will be based on percentage (Best 2 of 3 songs) - No 12/13-footers allowed until the semi-finals and finals. - Jumps and Freezes on. - No speed cap (any speed modifier allowed) - Coin flip at beginning of all matches; winner picks either 1st and 3rd songs and difficulties or side and 2nd song; loser picks the other. - Each player picks their own modifications. - If both players fail, the chooser of the song is the loser for that song. - The same song cannot be picked twice by a player in the tournament.
Super Smash Bros Melee (Singles AND Teams): -$10 entry for each
-Bring your own controller -Double elimination -4 stock matches -7 minute time limit -Random seeding -If you're going somewhere, be sure to tell a tournament staff member about it so we can tell you when to be back.
Sets: There are no rules regarding character picking. For the first match in a set, players can either agree on a level or let the game do it for you (The random stages are listed below). After that, the loser of the round will be able to counterpick for the next round. Before each match players may ban a stage.
Each set is best of 3 matches; Semifinals are best of 5 matches; Finals are best of 7 matches
In the unlikely event that the final in a set ends in a tie (as a result of time running out), the match will be decided by who has the most stock. If both players have even stock, then it's by damage; one player has 300%, one has 50%. Guess who wins. In the VERY unlikely event that both players have even percentage (that's impossible unless you're noobs and shoot eachother with Fox until 999%, but I have to cover this anyway), the players will go to SUDDEN DEATH in Special Melee, set the stock to 1, and start a bonus match on the same stage.
Items will be set to NONE
In the event of an equipment malfunction, the match will be restart from the last known position or from any point in the match that is agreed upon by the players.
Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo's Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the match or makes it in any way unfinishable are banned. Using them will result in the immediate forfeit of the match.
Tactics such as Peach's Wallbombing and Jiggly's Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as dropping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. Judges will be on the tournament floor and can be called in at any time to enforce this rule during a match.
Please do not bring any modded controllers because you will be disqualified if you use them in a tournament match. Nintendo Standards or Wavebirds (see below) are recommended. You may use third party controllers if you wish but if you are caught using their features you will be warned. More warnings lead to disqualification.
BRING WAVEBIRDS AT YOUR OWN RISK. It will be your responsibility to find others with Wavebirds and sort out the frequency issues. If you bring a wavebird it is highly suggested to bring a normal Gamecube controller in case your Wavebird malfunctions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Random Stages:
Singles: Final Destination, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story, Battlefield, Rainbow Cruise
Doubles: Final Destination, Battlefield, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, Corneria
Banned Stages:
1v1: Hyrule Temple, Fourside, Flatzone, Mushroom Kingdom, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Great Bay and Yoshi's Island 64.
2v2: Hyrule Temple, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Great Bay, and Yoshi's Island 64.
For Doubles, Team attack is ON and life stealing is allowed.
Other info:
We will try to have some extra setups for console games (IIDX, Pop'n if anyone wants to bring their controller, SSBM, whatever other games people want to play). Please bring a modded PS2 or a GameCube if you can, or whatever other game systems you would like to (X360/Wii/PS3). Also, please try to bring your own controller if you can; we'll provide what we can, but more is better to have than not enough.
We are willing to host or at the least let you host any other tournaments which you are interested in. FFC has a pretty decent collection of fighting games, including Tekken 5, SF 3rd Strike (x2), Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival, SVC CHAOS, Dead or Alive 2, Soul Calibur, and several others. They also have Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Wink.

Jinx wrote: For those who want to see the DDR Shirt (date of event on back is a placeholder until we decide for sure), you can check out the Midwest Music Showdown '07 Store. Each shirt will have a different style, with the DDR one getting the bright flashy look. All of the shirts will have the same basic back design. Hope you enjoy. Very Happy

Good god. >_> If anything, I'd just go to socialize. I hate Braz and Modarius with a passion, which is most terribly difficult to do (meaning you really, really, REALLY deserve global hatred if I hate you). I wouldn't want them judging me, nor would I want to be in any (paid) tournament they'd enter into. For one, I'd definitely lose. For two, I don't normally play competitively, whereas they do. Unequal terms makes a not-so-great combination. ^^"
I approve of the event (it makes FFC more money, not Mod/Braz), but I'd only go to socialize. Worth $5? Perhaps, if some of the bigger Bemani players are there (of which Arch0wl will not be, since he left the socialization part of the game behind over a year ago). Otherwise, it's really pointless for me to waste the money to something I won't enjoy.

Well, whether you like em or not, Brazoliange and Modarius are at the top of their game concerning Midwest. As for you hating them, I dunno what would warrant such hate, nor do I care to know. I know they can be abrasive, but meh. Also, they are getting nothing out of the tournament. It is all going to FFC in attempts to bring more out of town players/promote more tournament growth, seeing as Cue quit, and was pretty much their tournament coordinator after DualEdge left. I don't play any Bemani on a competitive level anymore, so I honestly, could care less. I'll enter Cue's fighting tournaments that he'll probably be hosting annually now. Last year it brought over 90 people from all over the country. New York, Florida, California, Colorado, and so forth. And like I said, pretty much did this cause I told Brazo I would. New paragraph? What's that? sweatdrop

Last year it brought over 90 people from all over the country. New York, Florida, California, Colorado, and so forth. And like I said, pretty much did this cause I told Brazo I would. New paragraph? What's that? sweatdrop I'm quite aware of their skills in terms of rhythm gaming. I admire that skill, even if I have a deep-seated hatred for them, which I'll get to in a second. One thing I like about this is the fact that it IS bringing people from across the midwest to participate. It provides great social opportunities in addition to providing FFC with a lot more money to work with (more money equals better machines and better maintainance). I've never played DDR competitively, and even entering tournaments at conventions I was mostly looking just to entertain myself and others. I've considered playing StepMania competitively, but I also play that for personal enjoyment, regardless of my skill level. Though to be honest, I'd be far more inclined to enter a StepMania tournament than a regular Bemani one. As for my reasons for hating Braz and Modarius, they mostly stem from how they've seemed to be over time. As you mentioned, they are quite abrasive...which I can look past most of the time. It's just the blatant arrogance, cockiness, selfishness, and rudeness they've displayed nearly everywhere I go. Sure - I've seen and experienced exceptions to my statement, so it is clear that they aren't always the way I described, whether it's to certain people or not. I'm not even considering the time Romku and them were at each others' necks, to the point that they even had a fight set up. However, knowing Romku, they were more than likely the ones provoking the fight, and according to the story I heard (and partially witnessed), they did. And that also peeved me off, because that just means they are willing to go quite some length to cause trouble for others. Therefore, I have no reason to actually like them and the trouble they've caused for my friends and I merit my undying hatred of their souls. I'd just as soon avoid them, though - whenever I go off the deep end, s**t usually doesn't look good by the time I calm down. And should they start shoving their arrogance down in my face (which is highly unlikely in the first place, but I won't rule it out as a possibility), I will more than likely want to beat the living (and dead) ******** out of them. That's how I feel and why, whether you agree or not and whether the same holds true for you or not. *shrugs* I don't mean to sound pissed off as I type this, because I'm not, I'm just throwing out my perception on them. As for the Smash Bros. tournament, I might enter. I'd enter the team one, so I'd need a partner. I'm currently open to invites/suggestions, so feel free to PM me or something (I <3 PMs, BTW. :3).

Good Gawd Louie . . . and you wonder why your threads always have a tendency to shrivel up and die-you write a huge wall-o-text every other post!! People wanna have a conversation, not read a freakin novel!! xd Anyway, more on topic, I get you dislike them, but why do you HATE them again? neutral what did they ever do to you personally to offend you so badly?

Not discuss personal vendettas against the people running it. From this point on, please refrain from discussing anything other than the tournament in this thread. *shrug* I have selective reading. Beat me with a boffle weapon if you wish, but that rant seriously lifted crap off my shoulders. confused My novels are worse, though, in comparison. So be prepared. XD
Back on topic, I'm still looking to see if anyone's interested in teaming with an Ice Climbers/Samus player.
