What's your opinion on fair trade? No, not free trade, fair trade.

For those, who don't know what fair trade is, here's some info:
Fair trade is an organized social movement which promotes standards for international labour, environmentalism, and social policy in areas related to production of Fairtrade labelled and unlabelled goods.(I have to admit that I copied this from wikipedia because they had put it down so well)
The two most popular and well-known fair trade products are coffee and bananas.
In 2006, Fairtrade certified sales amounted to approximately €1.6 billion worldwide.(super)

Why I support fair trade. Well, first of all, I think most of us like to know how our common goods are produced, where they are produced and who gets the money. Atleast I wonder that. It's very important to me that the products that I buy are not not made in sweatshops neither are they made by children.
Child labor jams the countrys economy and politics. Why? Because the future citizens aren't learning those important skills that make them an important part of their nation. They don't learn to read or write. Especially girls don't get the education they'd need to make it in this big world.
What fair trade does? It supports the community. The money the farmers, craftspeople and other workers get doesn't go only to their own pockets but it helps the whole community. They can build wells, schools and health centers, which is great.
Fair trade is also ecological. The packings can be recycled or burn without causing any harm to the enviroment. All groceries labeled fair trade are organic. So no pesticides were used.
The Worldshops also sell textiles, stationary, toys and many other things, depending the country and the shop.

How does Fair Trade show in the US? Does it show at all?

this really is an interesting topic, because if i say yes i have to take into account that could devistate some economys, i say no it continues the cycle of child labour, honestly in the long run fair trade would enrich the world but enitially it would devistate some economies which could lead to death especially among children. it really is a very complicated issue and i wish i had a better answer but i dont think that i have the place to say aye or nayit would all be out of ignorance because im sitting here in sub-suburbia and truelly have no clue what the true underlying issues would be in a third world country that uses child labour, im in no way saying its right but look at the entire economic structures of countrys based on that, it would have to be slowly eased in i guess.
