This was the most prominent thought in the mind of Hale'oki right now. Now that Zephyrizon was more than big enough to be on his own and wander off on his own adventures, Hale'oki had gotten her times of solitude back again. Not that she was glad to be rid of him though.
Sure, it had sometimes been a chore to care for the orphaned creature. She had spent the last few months raising the baby Nightmare into a fine young example of an adult, playing surrogate mother to him as well as educator, and mentor. And now that he was gone to begin his own life, she felt a little sad, yet acheived at the same time.
She spent her time in the dense forests near the edge of Sceaduwe territory, but dared not to venture back there. She abandoned her Nightmare kin for a reason, and did not wish to join their corrupt ranks again any time soon. Although she herself was a Nightmare, she did not necessarily agree with some of their ways. And thus, she had been outcasted, and left. It was more peaceful out of their lands, anyway.
The female sighed and shook off her thoughts. She she paced through the dense forest, tongue flicking out of her maw. Although she was utterly blind, it took her no time at all to pick up the scent trail of a rabbit, expertly persuing it. She wasn't really that hungry right now, but hunting was just something to do.
"It's quiet here..." She grinned to herself.
She stopped abruptly, allowing the rabbit to leave. She raised her ears high, and slowly turned her head, listening hard. She heard something else now, although she was not sure what it was.

Ref Pic of Adjo: http://nightmare.kitsusagi.net/charxkae1.jpg***************** He hated being alone sometimes. Yes, he had his best friends in Hanzi, Pika and Balen, but still, at times, he felt alone.
He guess he just had alot on his mind, most of it being his sister. He didn't quite understand where her 'way' of thinking came from, though he had a feeling maybe a little bit stemmed from his mother, having heard from his family she used to be quite a resentful creature before meeting his father.
But he still partially blamed himself for the way Elysia turned out, wondering if he spent more time with her, would she have turned out the way she had. He sighed to himself, flicking his tongue about, not really paying attention to where he was wandering when he went to the HQ but refused to go inside. He himself didn't mind the way he was, even though it was upsetting to hear how his own ancestors got the curse, it was just part of who he was and he liked how he was.
He stopped as he caught a somewhat familiar scent. He couldn't place a name to it, two things stood out. One, it was a female, from the subtle soft scent that was there, and two....it was a Nitemare. He paused in his walking, wondering if he should approach. He never seemed to be welcomed when he met NM's out of his family, just because he didn't view other Kitsu's as lower as himself.
But he decided to press on, flicking his tongue to take in the scent and to see just how close she was. He wouldn't press for a fight, though he could handle one better then his friends. "Hello?" he called out.

Hale skittered back slightly as another rabbit tore across the scrub, bounding past her. She made a slight annoyed 'tch' sound and shook her head. So much for the strange noise.
She flicked her tongue out of her mouth, more out of habit than wanting to smell the air. Although, this time... Hale raised her head and flicked the tongue out again, faster this time. A new scent on the air! And this one was familiar. She raised her ears high on her head, soon hearing the sound of paws approaching.
And then she heard the voice. She made a quick chirping noise back in response, as if sounding out her location to the approaching Nightmare.
"Greetings," She said back to him. "Are you hunting in this area as well?" She paused hesitantly. "Forgive me if this is your hunting grounds. I merely wandered here to think."

Adjo relaxed somewhat, just because this Nitemare gave him a friend greeting did not mean she would mock him as soon as she found out about his views. "Oh no, this is not my hunting ground, I do not even live around. I was wandering mostly, though I am glad I did run into some company. But I am sorry if I disturbed your hunt." he said, getting ready to leave if she wanted to hunt alone.

"You did not disturb my hunt, let me assure you," Hale made a soft amused chuckle, shaking her head. "I am not even very hungry - any kill I would have made would be a waste of life." She grinned. "Although, it would have made an easy meal for the scavengers of this area."
"Wandering, hm?" She sounded intruiged. "It is interesting that you say that. For that is just what I was doing, myself. It seems that since I have been freed of my charge, I have a lot of time to do just this now of days."
"I would not have shoo'ed you away even if I was hunting in seriousness," She continued. "Two are much more successful in the hunt than just one, afterall."

A smile went over his beaked muzzle and he nodded his head, "That is quite true, hunts are much more successful when two are hunting as a team." He sighed as he padded a bit closer to her, "I just seem to have....alot on my mind lately, and I do not wish to burden my best friends with my thoughts, nor my mother or father..." he said wearily, his ears flicking about and his tongue flicking in and out. "You sound familiar, have we met before?" he finally asked.

"We may have met before," Hale said, hesitantly. "You might have known me when I was a mere whelp, back when I lived in Sceaduwe. But I have left them now - I am a rogue." She shook her head, making a soft grunt. "My name is Hale'oki. I am a Nightmare Kitsusagi, which comes with all of it's blessings and burdens. But I have made peace with what I am."
She tilted her head slightly, brows raised in curiousity.
"You are burdened with thoughts? Are they particularly worrysome ones? What could be so bad that you feel you need to keep such away from your own family?" She moved closer to Adjo, ears raised. "If you would like to talk about it, I would like to hear. Maybe I might be able to help. However, if you wish to keep the issues to yourself, I will not press them. It is really none of my business to do such a thing."

"Of course, now I remember, it's so good to meet you again." he said with some cheer in his voice. His ears drooped though when she asked what could be on his mind and he sighed. Well, this would help determine if she would ostracize him for his stance on life.
"It is just....my sister. I feel have failed her in some way. She views others, especially regular Kitsusagi, as beneath her. She is vicious and seems to easy to lash out and she seems to....hate me because I do not view the world as she does. I know what our ancestors did was wrong, but we cannot change what we are, and I like what I am, even if I cannot see or smell. Besides, my best friends are regular Kitsu's, they would do anything for me and I would do anything for them."
As he talked, he laid himself down on his belly and once he was done, he let out a weary sigh, but it did feel like a weight had been taken off his shoulders and it felt good to let that out.

Hale'oki was silent for the entire duration of the time Adjo spoke, seeming to be deep in thought. She heard him lay down on the ground, and sat on her haunches, figuring that they weren't going to move anywhere immediately.
She was hestitant to speak after he had finished. She agreed with some of the things he had said and nodded,
"I can understand if you have friends whom are Normal Kitsusagi," She began. "It is very easy to befriend them, especially if you meet up with kind ones. I have met some Normal Kitsusagi with wonderful dispositions in my time so far. When I was a young kit I became lost and nearly starved, and if not for the kindness of a Normal Kitsusagi to feed me and lead me back home, I would have been done for." She grunted slightly. "Is that your outstanding problem? You should not be ashamed of your chosen alliances just because you are a Nightmare Kitsusagi."
She was silent for several moments, scowling to herself.
"I can somewhat relate to your other situation, in a way." She began. "I have a surrogate son. His name is Zephyrizon. I had hoped to teach him differently from the stance that most Nightmares take. I had hoped to teach him that not all things in the world are to be hated and scorned, and that we are by no means above any other Kitsusagi kind. But he has had bad run-ins with the Normals, and he resents our curse."
She sighed, slowly shaking his head. "And as a result, he wishes to maim any Normal Kitsusagi he can get his claws into. It is such a terrible shame, I certainly did not raise him to be that way. I sometimes feel that have failed him, and that it is my fault."
She made a soft rowling sound. "But the difference is, it is not my fault. He chooses to be that way. And I would guess, so does your sister. It is not something you should blame yourself for."

He was greatly relieved to find she did not resent him for his viewing of himself and the world and was quite happy to see that she even shared some of his views, though he would never push them on anyone. He was saddened to hear another Nitemare had taken such a horrible stance and he knew he would have to protect his family if he came to it.
"I am this way because that is how I was raised. Mother can be tempermental, but only if someone threatens her or the family, regular and Angelic kitsus's included. I guess I find it....hard....my sisters seems to hate me, but I cannot and will not hate her, though I will defend myself and my family and anyone else from her if she chooses to attack. I guess I feel like I am the oddball Nitemare."
He sighed softly, scratching at an itch on his muzzle. At least he didn't feel so alone now, that another Nitemare didn't want to reject him.

"I do not believe that your sister truly hates you." Hale shook her head. "If she truly hated you, she would probably come after you to attack. That is the general nature of Nightmares. If you were in a predicament, my guess is that she would aid and assist you. One can be angry without being hateful. And one can say anything they like, but only their actions ever speak truth."
"If this is your biggest concern, just breathe a sigh and try not to let it bother you." Hale moved over to sit beside him. "My guess is that she is probably just angry. Give it time."

Adjo turned his head toward her when she sat next to him and he sighed again, "I suppose. I just always hoped.....well....all I can do is just hope we can remain family." he said wearily. He sat up and he scratched an itch from behind his large ear.

Hale raised her ears attentively. She could hear Adjo's scratching and noted to herself that he seemed to be scrating himself a lot.
"Are you very itchy, there?" She wondered. "Do you have fleas? They seem to be common in this warmer weather, I am afraid. But they are easy enough to get rid of. Just go bathe in a stream and drown them. Or, groom them out, or have another groom them out. I used to remove my surrogate son's fleas very regularly. He enjoys walking in long grass and seems to pick them up a lot."
She lowered her head towards his, tongue flicking out of her mouth as she closely smelled him, trying to determine if her guess about the fleas was accurate.

If Adjo could blush, he would, how embarrassing! "I believe I do. Me and my friends go out and roll about alot. I guess I don't bathe as often as I should." he said. He finished scratching and sat there, pondering bathing or grooming himself.

"Ah, I see," Hale'oki replied. "Stay still. And put your head down."
She was so used to the routine of grooming Zephyrizon when he got fleas that it did not occur to her that she might be breaching any social-distance bounds in moving her head down, placing her bony snout's end in Adjo's head-fur. She began to lightly nibble it, crushing whatever tiny insects got in the way in between her sharp teeth, being careful not to bite and pull the fur in the process.
After nibbling the fur, she licked the fur down clean with her forked tongue.
"I am pretty sure you are nimble and flexible enough to groom the rest." She grinned. "Though if you have worked out how to groom your own head, you shall have to share the information with me."
