If you ever get a chance to see Portland underground do it's awesome. Extremely creepy though, the chamber where they broke the woman that fell under white slavery is going to haunt me. >.<
But you go underground and see these tunnels under Portland that were used as shanghai holds. They would get people drunk or high in bars or opium dens then bring them underground and put them in cells with a load of other guys then they'd slip formaldehyde into the guys drinks to knock 'em out and put them on ships where they were forced to work. Then there was also the white slavery which was where white guys would kidnap woman of all ethnicities and take them underground and brake them then sell them as prostitutes. Before they thought it took like 24-48 hours to brake them but then they had a guy that actually did do that and he said he could do it in 8 hours and that 48 was unheard of. He was proud of it too it was totally ******** up.
Awesome tour you've gotta see it. I stuck my fingers threw the same bars as dead men did years ago. The creepy bit though is this ran from 1850-1942
