For a while now, I've been thinking about possibly joining the Coast Guard. I need to learn to swim better than I do before I do join if thats what I decide, and I also need to be in better physical shape, and I have to go back to school and get my actual diploma, which isn't a problem.
I'm wondering if this is something that I should do. Yes, I know it will be brutal. I've always been fascinated with the military, but I know I'm not cut out for like the Marines or the Army. I'm going to do a lot of research. This isn't something that I'm going to decide over night. If I do make the decision it won't be until sometime late next year. I'm thinking about doing this because well, I want to do something with my life. I want to help people. I also want my parents to be proud of me for something, especially my dad. I wanted to go to college to become a therapist, but I don't have the money for that at all. And I never took the SAT's. I've been doing some research on the Coast Guard and it sounds pretty interesting.
So what do you guys think?

i think if this is something you really want to do, i say go for. i believe that you will be able to do it too! yes, it might take some effort, but the reward will be so much greater! it sounds like you have already put alot of thought into this! and i think your parents would be very proud of you, no matter what you do!

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe you could even move up to Marines or GI once you got more confident.

It'll serve as a great way to learn self discipline and other things like that :] You'll also meet a lot of cool new people, and there should be a lot of opportunities to travel, depending on your duties and such.

Yeah I've decided that I am going to go back to school, and I'm going to try and get into the Air Force ROTC class that my school. Yeah it's not the Coast Guard, but it'll really help me. And I've met the instructor, he is hardcore.
