Hey, if you're like me, before you got involved with all these LARP miscreants, you first acted out your fantasy persona through games like Dungeons and Dragons. Well, I've been challenged to come up with a way, of making D n' D work for LARP (don't ask why, lets just say I have a rival for rule making). I'd like to share these ideas of mine with you, so that you can help me as well. I'm not that experienced a LARPer, so hearing sage words from knowing people will help me work out what will work and what won't. Here's what I have so far:

Damage: Use STR modifier to determine the number of hits you remove from a location per strike (minimum 1 point. You can't not cause damage if you hit). In the case of ranged weapons, you use the DEX modifier to determine how many points are removed. Ranged weapons go through armour.

Stats, Feats and Skills: Use the character generation rules from D n' D to determine stats and number of skill points. Do not use skills from player's handbook. A skills list is in the works. Same with Feats. Skills will work on a level system, higher levels open up better abilities.

And that's it so far. Like I said, I have a skills list to write, Feats to tweak, etc. Any ideas (and ESPECIALLY criticisms) are welcome. When this is finished, I will type it all up and offer the rules-set for free to anyone and deliver via E-Mail.
