Hello everyone, I'm new here. When I joined the other day, I thought my weight was around 150, but...apparently its not. Long story short: Apparently I've gained close to 40 lbs in just a little over a month so now I'm at about 185, I know why, its probably due to my Mirena IUD that I have. Anyways, here is what I'm doing to lose the weight. Any tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. are welcome. I need to lose the weight by December at the very latest, aiming for about 105-110. Or more realistically, a size 5/6.

1) Eating HEALTHIER. Even though I never eat junk food, I'd still like to be healthier than I am. I also rarely ever eat, maybe at most 2 FULL meals a day. I have a very low appetite. I'm pondering going veg, what do you think?

2) Running regimen. On days I'm NOT running I will be walking, and I always clean the house. I'm just getting started with the running regimen, so I'm going by a training schedule in the Runner's World Book Of Running that I bought a couple years back. Basically this is the training schedule:

Beginner runners should follow this schedule to get ready to run, UNLESS they are already in a course of strenuous workout. (IE: Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Cycling, other sports) When going into running don't set yourself on a goal of MILES but rather minutes. This schedule, if followed correctly, takes about 10 weeks, just a fair warning to anyone on my FL that wishes to get into running. Another note, when you run, do not try to run fast, but rather run at a speed similar to a fast walk or slow-medium paced jog.

Start out with 8 days of walking: First four days walk 20 minutes a day, last 4 days walk 30 minutes a day.

In each week run on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The other 3 days do another form of exercise, or just rest.

Week 1: Run 2 minutes, walk 4 minutes. Complete 5 cycles.
Week 2: Run 3 minutes, walk 3 minutes. Complete 5 cycles.
Week 3: Run 5 minutes, walk 2 1/2 minutes. Complete 4 cycles.
Week 4: Run 7 minutes, walk 3 minutes. Complete 3 cycles.
Week 5: Run 8 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Complete 3 cycles.
Week 6: Run 9 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Complete 2 cycles, then run 8 minutes.
Week 7: Run 9 minutes, walk 1 minute. Complete 3 cycles.
Week 8: Run 13 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Complete 2 cycles.
Week 9: Run 14 minutes, walk 1 minute. Complete 2 cycles.
NOTE: If you feel tired after completing week 9, repeat this week of training before moving on to week 10.
Week 10: Run 30 minutes. 1 cycle.

No, I don't eat splenda, so I do not eat anything low-fat, low-cal, etc. Because they are all sweetened with splenda, I don't eat Splenda because its really made from chlorine not sugar. I also do not eat aspartame or any other artificial sweetener, again chemicals that are potentially hazardous, and I refuse to put them into my body. I'm not against using fruit pectin as a sweetener, since it is very good for you, however. smile

So, what do you guys think? Good idea? Not? Any other ideas to help me get the weight/inches off fast? Going Vegetarian good idea? Not? Etc. etc. etc. Basically: All tips are WELCOME!

With being vegetarian, you will need to eat more because a lot of vegetarian foods are very low in calories and fat. So if you do decide to go veg, you will need to make sure you are getting all your nutrients and do some heavy research on what you really need to eat (on the post where I announced myself going veg, there are some tips in there too. I would also join www.veggieboards.com for support). Also you would have to make sure you are eating well rounded meals, even with a low appetite because with vegetarians it is eating for nutrients more than anything.

The running sounds like a good thing to do. It supplies enough cardio (which is the fat burner) and will give you endurance. I'd try it.

And it's good you don't eat splenda and all that stuff. Artifical stuff is bad for you. I'd rather eat a portion of high calorie food then a lot of artificial foods. smile

If you want more veg sites, PM me.

Counting your calories really helps. You can use this to find out how many calories you eat a day, then minus some (um, I suppose around 300-500 or so, im not certain but you shouldnt go to below 1200 because your body will go into starvation mode and actually STORE fat when you eat.)

I really like your exercise plan! I think im going to try that. Oh, and its not healthy to make pounds go away fast, your should only lose around 2 pounds a week, thats the healthy amount.

Make sure you eat breakfast too, you may not be hungry but it kicks starts your metabolism! Oh, and don't feel to bad about Junk food. wink Your body doesn't discriminate in calories, Its just when you eat junk food your less full that usually leads to eating more, so after you count your calories for the day and you find you have 100 calories or so left over feel free to eat some chips! Just dont go overboard. 3nodding

If your going to go vegetarian, then if you go on the peta website they will send you a vegetarian starter kit for free, you dont even have to pay shipping. Good recipes and stuff like that. You dont have to agree with peta, its just a kit. XD

I cant think of anything else right now, but if you go into peoples weight loss journals they have tips they put up for themselves, or others to look at.

Thanks a ton for this reply! I try not to eat TOO little, its just...hard sometimes when I don't have an appetite. Oddly, I can eat a ton of veggies and/or fruits in one sitting though. I'll check out that site, and I'll definitely PM you for more if I want more. smile I'm the same way, much rather prefer eating a small portion of high-cal foods over chemicals. Bleh. Who knows what that stuff does to you? That probably explains all the toxins people contain in their body, thats for sure!

I eat probably around 800 calories a day, at most. Its hard for me to eat more than that, unless I sit around and snack every couple of hours, which is about the only way for me to eat. I do eat breakfast though, that's one meal I make sure I get. I know the normal weight gain thing, and that's pretty much what I meant, is about 2-3 lbs a week. But, with me going into running, I might not lose actual "weight" just fat, YKWIM?

Its not that I don't feel junk food is "ok" to eat, its just the way it tastes...it just tastes nasty to me. I can't eat sweet junk food, unless its a couple of chocolate chip cookies or other cookies. Cake disgusts me, its just..nasty. I ate cake yesterday and it almost made me throw up, but I ate it for etiquette reasons, since I was at a birthday party. I seriously can't eat chips though, the grease...uggghh...I take one bite out of a chip and I gag.

Actually, I'm a PETA Activist lol. That's one HUGE reason as to why I want to go veg, but I tried a billion times, and couldn't. Mainly cause of my family threatening to force meat down my throat if I didn't eat it. You oughtta see me freak out when I watch a movie and they treat an animal wrong or something. I've gotten where I don't buy stuff from a LOT of stores due to PETA, and where I don't eat stuff from a lot of restaurants as well. I did have the vegetarian starter kit, but I lost it.

Oooo ok, I know what you mean. I wasnt sure if you weren't eating junk food because you didnt like it or you didnt want to gain weight. XD so I get it now.

I know what you mean about the meat thing! I went vegetarian for a couple of months, and no one in my family would help me out. My mom would constantly go, "here just eat this it wont kill you". Egh Its hard to not eat meat when someone is sticking it in your face. gonk I finally gave up. I did give up meat originally because of peta too.

Here is a copy of the links I sent you over PM incase people also wanted to check it out. By the way, on many (if not most) of these sites, my username is TabbyR. Add me as a friend or PM on these sites so I know you joined. biggrin

www.veggieboards.com heart These people are awesome and willing to help with any questions. There are helpful blogs, a huge forum with thousands of posts, and a pretty tight community.

www.peta2.com You don't really have to believe in everything Peta does to belong here (but it's cool if you do). These people focus on vegetarianism and activists. It's a bit tougher of community then VeggieBoards but quite informational. You can also get a starter kit with stickers, dvd's, etc.

www.TryVeg.com is a great site too. You can order a vegetarian starter kit. Lots of articles and info.

http://www.vegcooking.com/ is probably THE best site for recipes. There are literally thousands to try. heart

And if you just google "Vegetarian Weightloss" it has TONS of tips on how vegetarians can lose weight. heart

Honestly, 80-93 lbs is rather close to ideal weight for people that are 5'0, if your smaller boned. I'm 5'0 as well, but I'm rather small boned, so about 85-110 lbs is what I was told should be my weight. I think it depends on bone structure. I know, personally, I'm aiming for a GW of 110, a UGW of 90-95.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the truly ideal weight for someone of our height, if your average boned, is 95-128 lbs.
