I like playing alto flute because its so different from the other flutes. It plays in the key of g. Its a little harder to play than the bass, piccolo, or concert flute because some of the music is written higher than an alto flute would normally play (I guess for the different timbre...) which makes it harder to get the notes out. Also, I think our schools alto flute is older than the bass....
does anyone else play alto flute?

No, but I want to try them all. I play flute and have played piccolo but it's kind of ironic because my low range is much better than my high range.

I WANT to play Alto Flute! Our band director won't spend money on an alto flute. He has been buying other instruments. The alto sounds so cool! The low notes are awesome! heart

I want to play bass flute so bad xP The lower, the better, yet I don't want to go ridiculously like contrabass.
I've seen an alto flute, but I've never played one, nor have I ever heard one played.

We have a contrabass clarinet but it is so useless...

We use those in regular band to back up the tubas since we only have 2 tubas and 2 baritones in Wind Ensemble.

And 2 oboes (me and this other girl who can't play). My band director wants us to switch to clarinet though because we don't have enough clarinets. We have a ton of flutes in that class (thank god because if he made me play flute in symphonic, I'd be bored to tears), and about a MILLION trumpets. Its going to turn into trumpet band. rolleyes stupid trumpets (then again, I shouldn't be saying that because I have a HUGE crush on a trumpet player...)

Eeeeep, alto flutes!
When I went to band camp this summer my flute teacher was like here, you can play the alto [in our flute ensemble] and it made me so happy. =] Haha. No really though, it's amazingly fun. I wish I owned one [or the school did] because as it is I won't get to play one until I go to another camp or find someone who owns one.

altos are pretty expensive though... I think I'd rather save up a little more and get a solid gold c flute than save up for an alto flute.

The only concern I'd have about a golden flute would be the dents/scratches it would accumulate. Gold is such a soft metal.

I love alto! I played it in a quintet once, and loved it. except that my music was relatively uninteresting.
