This topic was actually brought up in my sister's LJ, which came from a discussion we were having with some physicist friends. That is, why my sister and I are drawn almost exclusively to "guy" books (of snipers and explosions and wizards and such) while our friend is drawn to the same degree to "girl" books (of 80s romances and female leads and magic and cute boys and the like). It's akin to the division between shonen and shoujo in manga/anime, but not as explicitly labeled. The thing is, I can't figure out why I have such a preference. It's not like I dislike female protagonists ... I just never seem to pick up books with girl leads. Anyone else experience this, or have any theories on the origin of such a preference?

I understand exactly what you're saying and I have no idea why it happens. I admit that with me it's a little different in that I am drawn in the same way you are to "guy" books to stories with male on male pairings. I don't know why, it just happends. I find these great stores with amazing plots and the authors handle the characters wonderfully . . and every single one of them has few or no heterosexual pairings. It's the oddest thing in the world! My friends tease me about it lol
