Founded by Readis in the Ninth Pass, Kathrain Hold has survived the Turns. It is one of the few Holds that still remains loyal to Monaco Bay Weyr, and keeps close ties to the Weyr.

Kirrin walked quickly down to the water near the Hall. He had already suited up in his close-fitting diving suit, the one made especially for dolphineers. A single dolphin swam at the water's edge, a dark splotch on his nose standing out against the clear water. When he caught sight of Kirrin, he rose up in the water and tail-walked backwards, suee-eeing with joy. Kirrin knelt by the water and dove in, sliding intot the water like a knife slid through butter. He surfaced and placed his head gently on the dolphin's melon.
"Hey, there, Ink," he said. "Miss me?"
"Kirrin! Kirrin!" Ink said in his high dolphin speech. "You did come! We swim now? We swim?"
"Sure," Kirrin said, laughing. "But not too far under, okay? I didn't bring all of my stuff."
Ink squee-eeed joyously in anticipation. They both loved to swim together.

Chris had decided to enjoy the day by walking the beach and watching one of the pods of dolphins that often visited the shores near the Hold. The sun was warm, especially reflecting off the water and the sounds of dolphin clicks drifted upon the breeze. The whole day had Chris in a good mood.
Upon reaching a part of the beach right by the Hall, she noticed someone out swimming with a dolphin. From the marking on the dolphin, Chris decducted that it was Kirrin out in the water. Chris stood there and just watched the two swim.

Kirrin held his breath as Ink dove deep under the water. When he felt his lungs start to strain, he tapped Ink's dorsal fin twice, and the dolphin shot to the surface several yards away from the platform. Kirrin took three deep lungfuls of air and smoothed his wet hair out of his face. A shadow in his peripheral vision caused him to look up at a fellow dolphineer, Chris, if he wasn't mistaken. Kirrin lifted a hand out of the water and waved. Ink looked over at Chris and shot into the air, his ecstatic clicks echoing across the water.
"Should we join her?" Kirrin asked.
Without answering, Ink slid his dorsal fin under Kirrin's hand and towed him to where Chris was standing.
"Hello, Chrissy," Kirrin said happily. "Beautiful day, isn't it?"

Chris couldn't help but smile as she watched the dolphin and the dolphineer approach. Kirrin was a nice man and spending time with him was always a joy as she learned a lot from him and his bond with Ink. To make things easier, Chris waded out into the water until it reached her hip.
"It is a beautiful day. I just got back from watching Roe's pod over on the other side of the cliffs." She said. "I trust that you are doing well."

"Of course," Kirrin said. "Ink wouldn't let me get too beat up."
Ink squee-eeed and cheekily flicked water in Chris's direction. Kirrin laughed and placed his hand fondly on Ink's dark spot.
"Sorry," he said, not one bit contrite. "Ink's just happy to see you. So how is Roe's pod? I haven't seen them in a while. Granted, I wasn't looking, but when has that ever stopped them?"

Chris laughed as she gently splashed water back at Ink. "Roe's pod is good as always. A couple of the females have had their calves and all of them are healthy."
