well seeing as I'm falling in the same category a bit, I'll try.
Unless you have an addiction to something else like I do, then there shouldn't be such a problem. Try a piece which you think sounds good. But make sure it's not a classical piece, i.e., playing the first mvnt. of moonlight sonata won't help. I suggest looking into FF music. google final fantasy sheet music, and use the first site. Make sure to find the piano collection series. The music is wide spread from different genres. You see, I now, embarrassingly, have an addiction to anime romances, so it's hard to think about other things like piano. But, if you can concerntrate most of your piano time towards the music, then you'll probably see that you can play piano really well. It was shocking to me that I could have a whole work done in about 2 days.

Just trust in your self and find simple-complex music. O and make sure to study it for your theory.

Watch some annoying five year old play Rachmaninov on youtube and then in anger after having your ego thorough crushed vow that you will be better! Or just listen to some really good pieces and then decided to play them...

Or you could be like me and not have school and once you've got through fifty different ways to waste your time, then revert back to the piano. Just wait until you become very very bored and then decided it would be best to waste your time on the piano.

Alternatively, you could repeatedly tell yourself that you're s**t at piano and that you'll fail dismally if you don't practice. However, this is a more negatively approach. Works for me though.

I used to fall into slumps before I entered college too. I'd slack off from practice and make it all up before I go to lessons the day before...I regret it now, but back then, I was simply uninspired and not motivated at all.

Now, whenever I go close to the slump again, I'd watch good performances so I'd be motivated to do better, look for music that are fun to play so I won't be taking breaks from the piano even if I'm not practicing my pieces, and look for chances to do duets or collabs with other people. The last method is always successful in getting me to spend lots of time practicing because I'd never let myself be outdone by my partners, haha.

*is slightly competitive, after all* XD

...why would the Albeniz sonata be considered junk? You're still playing Classical music! o_o; Can't you tell him you want to learn it for later? And expanding your repertoire is always good. =o

*patpat* Try attending some concerts and watching funny/good videos on YouTube. Both had me running to the piano in several cases. XD

.... Why don't you just play it anyway? My family HATE me playing the Tchaikovsky piano concerto, well the first movement as that's all I can play, because it's like bang crash crash all the way up the piano, but I do it anyway. Parents can be harsh, but unless you have a lock on your piano, then you'll probably get away with it! Or just tell them it really helps practice you technique?

Most excellent!

Thankfully now I've finished school I can just spend ages playing in the day because I don't really have much else to do. What I've been doing today was clapping a rhythm in between beats and now my hands hurt from clapping too much. But it's really fun and really makes you think hard. Try doing that, it's fun, interesting and really gets your brain going.

I played: RH E major *clap clap* E *clap clap* E *clap* E *clap clap* and then the same for Cdim7
LH Going down in E major arpeggio

It's muchly fun! And I also did finger clicking and hitting my legs as well!

Yeah, that happens sometimes. That's why it's good to have pieces that can relieve you from your regular practice--they're what I call fun pieces. Sometimes, I don't even do that...I just play random things, and it's quite fun inventing melodies and harmonies spontaenously. Yay for improvisation!

I find rediculously hard pieces, like most things by Liszt, fun to do! Recently I've been sight-reading through all the really fast parts of various Beethoven sonatas. I think to myself "Right, I'm sight-reading so it doesn't matter if it sounds crap" so I stop worrying about notes so much and just have fun.

Erm... I'd say most things by Clementi are really fun because it's very fast and stuff, well I like it!

You could go to various websites that offer video game music.
It's a great way to enjoy piano while playing themes from video games that you know. mrgreen
