Miss Sushii wonders if any of you guys are or have tried working in the whole dining business?

I've tried it once, and it was great fun. My school class had this fancy dinner party at a restaurant which was owned by a classmate. Some of the students got to work in the kitchen, some with decorations, some with entertainment etc. I had real trouble deciding, but I ended up being a waitress/slave ^^ It was really fun, serving dishes, and pouring wine, and afterwards we got to eat the excess food from the kitchen. There was a great corn chicken, baked asparagus and a divine vanilla and cookie parfait. I can see myself doing things like this for a living, if my little designer/artist plans don't work out ^^

I've worked in food service for about 18 years now. Done everything from manager, hostess, busser, waitress, line cook, prep cook, dishwasher, baker.
Have to say, I definately prefer working in the back of the house, in the kitchen, over dealing with the public. It's not that I'm anti-social, just that if a customer gets lippy with me, well....let's just say that I'm the kind of person to give it right back to them.
Baking was definately my more favorite one; that was at my last job. A little family owned place up north. Miss the baking, don't miss the drama. Currently working for T.G.I. Fridays as a line cook. Not exactly encouraging creativity in the food department, but it's paying the bills.

I so agree!!! The back of the house ROCKS!!!!
I have been in the hospitality industry for about 10 years, and have served, cooked, baked,m catered, etc. Not a huge fan of baking...tooo much measuring for me, but I do like the end result though!! ha ha!!!!
Tried to have a desk job for about a year, and that was a big mistake!!!!!
Working in the industry is something that you fall into, or else it doesn't end up happening...definitely not the career choice for all!!!
P.S. to rosemary-angel90: don't sell your soul to the devil(TGI Fridays) You know you are better than that!!!!
Creativity is where you put it!
Make it happen, cause life is too short to have a crappy job!!!
