A Fatal Fairytale

PostPosted: Sat Jul 07, 2007 4:03 pm

So, July 4th marked my mum and dad's 23rd anniversary. Apparently they got married on Independence Day so they wouldn't have to pay for seeing a fireworks show. xD;

A couple a year or two back got married on Halloween; they had the costumes and everything at their wedding. (The guy was a vampire and she was the woman seducted by him; instead of kissing the bride, he bit her neck. xD)

A friend of mine's parents had a twenty-five dollar wedding; the wife wore a blue dress from the thrift store, their cake was blue with a green whale, and it was apparently a drive-through chapel. I have a feeling that part was exaggerated, though.

Does anyone know of weddings that occurred on holidays, or weddings that were just kind of silly/odd?

...nothing comes to mind in that area.

My parent's anniversary is only because I was on the way.

6 months before I was born.

Hrrmmrmmmm?

My parents ot married... 3-ish months after my brother was born.

They figured out that he was conceived in Tennessee... Therefore, he decided (23 years later) that he's a redneck b*****d. domokun

My parents got married on Valentine's Day. Which is cliche.

They're not married anymore.

No idea when my parents were married. The only anniversary that gets celebrated around here is the divorce.

I love the halloween ones. you really don't see people do that one too often, it's usually the v-day ones.

my parenst forget their anniversary every year. so they always end up celebrating it whenever they remember. it can jump anywhere from april to june.

My parents did the Valentines Day wedding day. They didn't get married until pretty far after me and my brothers were born, so I still remember when they left to get married. o_O

My brother and sister-in-law were wed right next to an adult movie store.
But that's Las Vegas for you.

Though my boyfriend's parents just had their fortieth wedding anniversary, and my great aunt and uncle will have their sixtieth soon.

My aunt got married the day after Christmas two years ago.
I think that's a little selfish.

Of course, now they can enjoy their anniversary during the holidays. But at the time, it was SO rude to demand attention from everyone else in the midst of scurrying around for presents and asking everyone to drop their plans with other loved ones.

My parents got married in the middle of August, and it RAINED on the day of their wedding. What luck, huh?

Cute story - my parents missed their honeymoon flight to the Caribbean, and my mom started crying and my dad didn't know what to do. The airline people felt bad and put my parents on another flight. When my parents got onto that plane, the captain announced over the loudspeaker, "We'd like to congratulate two newlyweds on board who missed their last flight, and as a complimentary gift we invite you to sit in first class." And everyone on the plane started clapping and cheering for them, and my dad said he felt like he was living in a movie scene. They gave my parents a free champagne bottle and everything.

heh, i'm the opposite of all these "born REAL SOON after the wedding" kids - i was born 9 years after my parents got married, and since i was the first child, i have to assume that i was an accident. come on. you're happily married for that long without any rug rats messing up your life - if you wanted kids you'd probably have had them by then, right? and then oops - there's me! of course, i was such a stellar baby that they decided having another wouldn't be such a bad idea, so they had my brother. HAHA! JOKE'S ON YOU, PARENTS!!

they've been married what... 35 years, almost? *mental math time* yeah, that'll be next year.

now that i'm working on having a wedding of my own, i'm not 100% thrilled with the idea of having it at the time of year my booboo wants it to be, because it's too close to my birthday and i'll look present-grubbing. that said, it's a nice time of year and maybe he's trying to get the present situation sorted out in one shot - in the future he can give me just one thing for present and anniversary both together, which is what i hope he does. i don't want him to get me presents twice in a row.

aaaaand my 4th gaiaversary just went by a week or 2 ago. whee

My ex is pagan, and we were originally going to get married on the Summer Solstice. The plan was we'd do as the theme Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream, and have a costume wedding in a state park. Her dressed as Titania, me as Oberon, and my stepson as Puck. We weren't going to be able to afford to do the wedding we wanted, so we said screw it and had it on the Winter Solstice for Yule.

It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the holiday when December rolls around even though we're divorced... since I don't give a damn about holidays. Other than Thanksgiving so I can gorge myself on good food, and Halloween. biggrin
