what stress, i have been flat out caring for my 3 yr old because my stupid ex, babys dad... was in a bad mood and slammed the recliner foot rest shut and caught babes big toe in the closing thing, and nearly cut of his big toe. then he started abusing us cause it happened, so i kicked him out and got an ambulance to hospital. lucky no nerves and such were damaged and the bone wasnt broke, but after 7 hrs in emergency and drips, drs ,surgeons and 7 stitches later, we are home. now i have to deal with his inability to walk anywhere and poor babe is in constant pain. we didnt get any sleep last night and he isnt napping today either....im exhausted. well that my sook session, lol...thought id share.

thanks guys, *hugs* thank goodness we are over the worst of it as he is now able to walk around a bit, so no more carrying him, omg he is a heavy boy for 3...he was weighed at the hospital and he is 18.5 kg, no wonder my shoulder is sore, lol. so now i just have the task of keeping it clean and dry, which isnt easy as we are in winter and he cant put a shoe on, any suggestions on making that work?

Hugs for you and lachy! Maybe sticking one of your socks over his feet will help keep it a little cleaner. Not much help when hes out running in the mud, but at least its a bit of a barrier between his owwy and the dirt heart

what about a pair of velcro sandals and some socks? Not fashionable, but maybe it would work confused

ahh good idea star... i never thought of that, and he has a pair of velcro shoes with rubber bottoms, the shoe fits his bandaged foot and there is just enough velcro to slightly close. hmm i dont know why i didnt think of that!!! clean and dry, yay!!!

yeah he is walking around now, it dosnt seem to bother him most the time, but today he ran outside and got it all wet and dirty like i didnt want, grr so i took all the bandage and dressing of and re did it with what i have, a new gauze pad and bandage, but the gauze im afraid it might stick to the wound. i hope it dosnt. i have to say it looks absolutely discusting.... there is only about 1cm of skin not stitched....its all swollen and bruised....ewww it makes me shudder.

AWWWW sorry for you and wee one! sad I hope he heals real quick!

What about putting a plastic bag over the sock, before putting the shoe on for when he goes outside?

Its been a couple of days... how is he and the toe doing now? Has any swelling gone down? heart
PostPosted: Fri Jul 20, 2007 6:01 am

well i have to say the plastic bag and the shoe have worked wonderfully together. the site looks like it is now starting to heal nicely, its still red and swollen but dosnt look so discusting. thanks for all your hints and tips, they have all worked a treat. he gets the stitches out in 3 more days, although im really not looking foreward to that either, lol. at the moment he wont even walk on it if its not fully bandaged, but once its wrapped and bagged and shoed, he runs around like it wasnt even sore. kids hey!!!

omg, this is the first I've read of this. That jerk. I am glad that it doesn't seem to be bothering your little one, and that it's healing nicely. Soon it will just be a cool story for him to tell people, if he even remembers it, he's so young.
