Yes... July 4th is passed, the day where we can all be pyro-maniacs. Do any of you have a favorite kind of firework? Or do you usually buy a bunch and form your own mini show? This is the thread where you discuss explosions and fire and all other forms of uncontrolled (or minimal controlled) mass-destruction using LOTS of gun powder biggrin

I usually help design an amatuer fireworks show with my dad and family members usually ranging with $3-5,000 worth of fireworks all connected to one fuse. Its usually extremely insane. One of my favorites... though extrmely dinky are the Saturn 5 rockets. They make whistles and little pops. But when you have 800 of them connected to one fuse and going off in 30 seconds.... its pretty loud and phenominal.

I personally prefer a 1/4 stick myself. It has a huge bang and you can really blow stuff up. Hehe Haaahaahaha! twisted

Another thing I like to do is dig a hole and fill it with gunpowder and then chuck in a match... you get one hell of a flame for a few seconds! biggrin

Actually that works great as a magically appears on stage trick also. We once set up a light socket and put a rocket engine ignitor in it. Poured gun powder over top of that and had wires taped on the stage back to the ignitor switch. When it went off there was a quick burst of flame folowed by a bery pronounced smoke cloud. It worked great for what we used it for and was a blast to mess around with.

we used to buy tons of fireworks as kids and dump all the poweder on the ground and light it but I always ended up with flash burns >.< In Hawaii it's illegal to aerial fireworks now. This used to not be so but so many fires start here because of it especially in the brush it goes so quick and can be very destructive. Dosen't usually stop people from bringing them in though and doing it anyways

Ahh the glory of being a pyro lol, what I love to do (July 4th or not) is take Magnesium and Potassium Nitrate, along with some aerosol and a plane firework, you just light the plane and drop it in and run away, then it light up in a big flame and shoots out (or is caught by the fire and explodes right there) but either way, its great! rofl

We used to take bottle rockets and break the sticks off of them. We would then lay them on the ground and light them. They would go all over and in unpredictable patterns. Hence, the reason we called them chasers. It was a lot of fun, but as usual with fun, it only lasts unitl someone gets hurt or an ambulance shows up. HEHE!

i love fitting bricks with gunpowder and lighting it and it is just flames bursting out but the most destructive is nitro glisserin now that blows anything up and i make it easily

I wonder if we can get in trouble for just talking about this stuff? LOL

I had a friend that used to blow stuff up with oxycetelene...I think that's the right gas, it's the one they use in welding. He would fill up balloons and put them in places like ammo boxes and trash cans and then set something on fire drop it in and run like hell. He's so stupid he used to film it too razz

Very nice! I beleive they use one oxygen tank and one acetelene tank and play with the mixture so that the torch head burns Blue hot. This is commonly used for blow torches to cut up steel. The welding side is always associated with it, but actually only uses a good grounding connection another lead with a welding electrode of different types of metals. It depends on what you are going to weld. When you touch the lead with the electrode to the grounded metal, the electrical path is completed and creates an arc. The heat from the arc melts down the electrode and creates pools of molten steel. That's why they call it arc welding. Anyway, it's an amazing feeling to weld steel together with your hands! It also is a good way to play with fire and chemicals in a very constructive way.
