I'm in need of some suggestions for a total cleanse. My body is full of toxins at the moment, which I can say from a medical standpoint. Being not so well off, we're sort of poor-folk mad d and a lot of what we eat isn't too good for us. A lot of carbs via ramen and pasta, both of which are cheap. Protien is in short supply and usually gotten from milks, and fresh fruits and veggies are nil. What I'm looking into is a fast for a few days, probably three- pure water only. After that, I'm looking for a cleansing tea that I can drink twice a day (or thereabouts) to keep things fairly clean and maybe keep me a little healthier. Any suggestions?

You could try making tea with alfalfa. Just don't use the seeds, they aren't good for you. From what I'm reading it's a detoxifier, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and diuretic. It says to make tea using 1 tbsp (1/2 ounce or 12 grams) of dried herb.
A good colon cleanser and laxative is cascara sagrada but I wouldn't take it while fasting...
Garlic is noted as a "whole-body detoxicant" and you could make tea using a clove of garlic but I don't know if you'd want to... actually it would be a decoction and not a tea when using something big like a clove.
Goldenseal is considered an all-body purifier/cleanser. One of my books warns against using it more than 2 weeks or if you have a history of high blood pressure but since you're probably not going to fast THAT long I don't think it would be a problem. For goldenseal use 1/2 to 1 tsp (1/12 to 1/6 ounce or 2 to 4 grams) of the dried root. You can take 1 cup 3x a day. For powdered goldenseal root use 1tsp of powder to 1 pint hot water and take 1 to 2 teaspoons 3 to 6x daily.
Peppermint is also considered cleansing and strengthening and is considered completely harmless. You can make a tea using a "heaping" tsp of the dried herb to 8 ounces of freshly boiled water. The book says it's traditionally taken cold but I'd imagine you can take it however you like.
I could look for some more if you'd like but hopefully one of those things will work for you. I'd go with alfalfa and/or peppermint tea personally. They sound the most palatable and inexpensive. And that concludes my studying for the night! haha.

The alfalfa looks like my best bet, I'm already using peppermint for nausea. I wouldn't reccommend cascara for anything unless under the DIRECT supervision of your doctor, because it can really dehydrate you fast. Its one of those herbs marked "restricted" due to the fact that too much taken or taken by the wrong person it can cause death by dehydration- really, death by diarrhea. Not pleasant. I'll look into the alfalfa though. ^-^ thanks.

Nemone rofl Death by diarrhea! By the way, thanks for the link to that site. heart I'm in love already and all I've seen is the pet section.
Hey, that's a thought. Why not make a chat thread, so that there's a place to hang out and generally talk about anything, not just about specific topics? Then we're all in the same thread at the same time, just talking about whatever. A lot of guilds have them, usually as "out of character" threads for roleplays or "general chat" threads for topic based guilds. What do you think?

I think it's a good idea. It seems like we're all really similar and just chatting would be pretty fun.

Is a fast really a healthy plan? I mean, are you going to start eating good non toxic food afterwards or will you have to go back to what you usually eat?
If it's the latter, wouldn't it be better just to supplement your meals with the alfalfa tea?

Vagabond Is a fast really a healthy plan? I mean, are you going to start eating good non toxic food afterwards or will you have to go back to what you usually eat? If it's the latter, wouldn't it be better just to supplement your meals with the alfalfa tea? Yes and no. I don't plan on going back to what I usually eat, considering that when I put the fast itself into action I plan on making sure that I have something besides ramen to eat. I'll use the tea until then and after then, and post-fast I plan on taking Nemone's advice from "herb of the week" and munching my share of apples. heart

There's a fast I heard about that is suposed to be really good for cleansing. It takes about a week.
Days 1-2, eat only fruits, drink only fruit juices, teas, and water.
Day 3, drink only fruit juices, teas, and water.
Day 4. Drink only water.
Day 5. drink only fruit juices, teas, and water
Day 6-7, eat only fruits, drink only fruit juices, teas, and water.
You end up REALLY hungry on day four and five...but it seems to work pretty well. Remember to take vitamins while doing it.

Theres another one my friend went through and it worked well. It is a fast just like Malkuts but a bit different. There is these special shakes that you drink and if I am correct they are high in protein and help your body cleanse itself but it lasts for a whole week. Though your trips to the toilet wont be so pleasant but after your done youll feel a hellouva lot better. He described it though as being a little hungry but never very hungry or starving.

One of the guys I used to work with (the same one who ate veggies in iraq) tried some thing called "colon blow" or something like that. Apparently the stuff cleans out your intestines. I don't know if any of you have heard of it but I wasn't sure it sounded like such a good idea even though he raved about it. I think it might have been a "natural medicine" thing. Wouldn't be surprised if it included the cascara sagrada we were talking about earlier.

Ugh, wouldn't that be pleasant. Anything called "colon blow" isn't high on my priority listing. XD
In general the way I fast is: Days 1-3: Water only. Days 4-7: Water and raw foods- veggies, fruits, nothing processed.
The first three days are horrible, because your stomach is shrinking, but then after that you eat less, and you're more able to resist hunger and so can wait a little longer for good foods instead of going for fast stuff like chips.

Yeah, I remember in boot camp, it feels like you're fasting all the time because you ONLY eat during the 3 meals and you spend all day carrying a rifle and marching EVERYWHERE you go and you do physical training, drill practice, rucksack marches, pugle sticks, martial arts crap, etc. Plus you're wearing cammies and boots and when I went it was summertime in South Carolina. And everything in the female chow hall (cafeteria) is fat free because they think all the females are going to get fat. And they make you drink juice or water most of the time and discourage drinking milk. I'm like 5'2 and my weight is usually standard within the range of 116-119 but when I was in boot camp I dropped to 105 lbs even eating all I could per meal. When I got to see my mom again the first thing she said was. "What did they do to you?" When we left boot camp I ate like a pig for days, I was so starved. Things that before I wouldn't have thought tasted that good were like the best thing in the world during boot camp and for days after. I don't think I'd mind fasting but I never want to be that starved again in my life. It made me realize how much I love food.

Hey I have a month long dieat that cleans the toxins from your body slowly so it is not a shock to the system. It takes 28 days. The last three days you are just drinking water with Honey. Let me see if I can get it and post it here. We use it for special stuff in the coven.
