Basically, runners are stereotypically out of their minds because all they do is run. But when someone for US is going a little crazy, I worry.
I have this one guy teammate, who's losing it and last night took it out on me.
I swear this has something to do with running just bare with me.
He's pissed off in general because he got taken out of his favorite race in the spring (mile) and ran the two mile. He trained really hard for it anyways, but ended up breaking his foot at the end of the season. If i try to tell him "Track IS a teamsport in the and I agree with Kennedy"(boy's Spring track coach) he freaks out at me. (Granted, he was also pissed b/c half the guys don't try and just want a varsity letter, but they have enough caring kids that when placed properly, possibly could win a championship(but he only sees the kids who don't give a damn)
Being the good friend i am, i try to calm him down, but just sort of take it, b/c everyone needs to vent every now and then and I respect that.
Now we're all training for xc, and he feels he can't run b/c of his foot.
I know how serious an injury can be. I got slide tackled in soccer and didn't go to the foot doctor for a month b/c i had no time, and i just kept competing like usual. Turned out i played three more soccer games, and three track meets (one of which was division champs) with my right ankle sprained. i played one more game with a brace, and then rested. But it wasn't enough, and now my right ankle is kinda wobbely sometimes.
I try to explain how important it is to respect your body and NOT RUN WHEN IT SAYS NO MORE YOUR BREAKING ME! but he won't listen. I told him to even call our coach, WHO WOULD UNDERSTAND, but alas, it was to no avail.
Then here's the part I'm really just PISSED OFF AT. He won't be accepting of other sports. After i told him resting his foot would be beneficial, he freaks out b/c he wants to go to states again and them be county champs again, and all that. I say "health over glory". When i say i know this from soccer first hand (back to sprained ankle), he freaks out and says all other sports are useless and for people who can't run (which isn't true for sports like soccer/lacross/basketball/even wrestling/etc.) Then he said "only running has glory, other sports don't", i was ready to kill him b/c i love soccer, it was my first sport i can't stand when people dis it for no reason!(like football players!)
So basically, he's only for himself in a sport that, during the regular season, is in the end a team sport. He's breaking his body. And he's not accepting of other athletes.
I try to beat these things into his head because i don't want my friends doing stupid things when they have attitudes like these. He the type of kid that could possibly get beaten up for the other athlete thing, he really is a good runner but running now will just make him worse, and he needs to learn teammwork.
Part of me is venting b/c he totally ticked me off, so i'm sorry if i'm wasting space or whatever. But can anyone give me some advice on how to deal with him? Any one of these things could get him into trouble with other athletes in the school, with a coach, or even with his own teammates (and the varsity boys are like brothers! i don't wanna see that ruined sad )
so, yea, um advice? sweatdrop

Oh man! Sounds pretty intense. It sounds to me that you've tried to explain to him time and again that he needs to rest his injury. Obviously, if he only keeps working with it, it can just get worse and put him out of a season even LONGER later when he messes it up again or just aggravates it. However, he seems unwilling to accept this and I'd say to just let him go and learn the hard way for himself. If he is going to beat himself up over it, let him. If he's going to put down other sports, well, just tune him out. Apparently nothing will change his mind so I think the best thing for you is to just...let it go. If you can't (I know it can be hard sometimes), try having a serious discussion with him when he is calmer. If you really feel you need to (and maybe you do), tell you coach the way you feel about all this. If your coach can't talk any sense into him regarding his injury/attitude, I don't think anyone can. Sorry if my advice sucks! haha
Oh. and nice sig by the way biggrin

No, I understand you're advice, and it's good. I am going to leave him alone. If he gets hurt during the season, our coach will deal with it. but he'll probably take him out before that happens. Thanks for the advice. my head just spins when i think about it, and i can't think in general about what to do about him xp
And thanks, i like your sig toooooooo ninja
