I'm guessing you mean the lobes of the ears.
And.. I really don't know. Someone told me it's because there are no nerve endings there. But honestly, I have no idea if that's right or wrong. I'm probably going to google this now too. xD
EDIT: Wiki just told me there are many nerve endings there. gonk

A brief explanation: While there are a lot of nerve endings in your ear lobe, first there are different types of nerves and the nerves are only on the outer parts. The lobe is just a bunch of fatty tissue, so we only really feel the nerves in the skin. Verses, the n****e; which is literally a cluster of nerves wrapped in skin.

cartilage is avascular, which means it has no blood supply and not innervated.
i'm not sure why the lobe doesn't hurt though. adipose tissue is about as vascular as you can get sweatdrop
yeah, i took physiology last semester, can't ya tell? xd

well, it's different for everyone; first of all. Some people just have less nerve endings in their lobes. Mine personally hurt a bit when I got them done.
I'm not sure if you're talking about cartilage piercings as well, because.. That's the most painful thing I've ever had pierced. I almost fainted. o:
