Megan's Hints, Tips, and General Knowledge about Making Gold on Gaia

This thread is dedicated to informing members of Gaia, guildies in particular, about how to maximize their gold earnings on Gaia Online. I (and any people who want to volunteer) will be working to verify/disprove rumors about how to get gold. There is also a list of myths.

How to Get Gold

Posting

~The gold you get from posting decreases as time passes. For example, I get 50g for my first post of the day, but after posting for a while, I only get about 3g per post.

~Waiting between posts will earn more gold than spamming like mad.

~The flood control on Gaia's main forums doesn't count in-guild posts, and vice versa. This means that you can post a message on the main forums and immediately post a message in the guilds without being delayed by the flood control.

Polling

~Like posting, the gold you get from polling decreases. This seems to be linked to how quickly you poll and your post count. A higher post count means that you can take more polls in a row while still earning good amounts of gold. For example, when I first started Gaia, only the first five polls or so gave me 10g; the rest didn't give me gold. Now, I can take more polls for the higher gold total per day.

~Spreading out your polls helps. For example, if I take, say, 10 polls in a minute, I would only get gold for every other one. If I wait a little while (say, a minute) between polls, I get gold for every poll until I hit my daily limit.

Games

~Word Bump and the new Jigsaw game both grant gold and items, just for playing!

~Word Bump gives out items on your avatar once you reach a certain level. Presumably, these items will get better as you reach higher and higher levels. I don't know whether it gives House items as well, but I've seen it give avatar items.

~Jigsaw also grants items. I've seen only House items, so I don't know whether it grants clothes items as well. However, Jigsaw does give special portraits for your house - the portrait is the same picture as the puzzle you do! ^.^

~Tickets from the Casino games, credits from Word Bump, and items from Word Bump/Jigsaw can be sold on the Marketplace or through the Exchange forum for gold.

Other

~Lurking (going from page to page without really doing anything) will get you a bit of gold every minute or so; some say that it's every 10 seconds. On slower computers, you get gold per page, as long as you're cruising around Gaia or refreshing every now and then.

~Profile comments and private messaging also grants gold. Like with the polls and posting, the first comment and message of the day grants a "bonus" amount of gold.

~If you're questing or otherwise saving up gold, your post count seems to grow more quickly if you don't pay attention to it ^.^

~One of the best and basic ways to earn gold is to poll, post, and move on. Luckily for us, in this guild every topic has a poll ^.^

~Another way to make gold is to sell off game items. Tickets, bugs, trash, flowers, and fish can all be sold on the Marketplace or in the Exchange forum.

~You can also get items (or gold if you sell them) from random events. The notification system for random events has been down for a while,

These are event recovery links, and they may give you your missed items. If you haven't earned a random event, however, they will give no items.

~Some people use the "buy low, sell high" method on the Marketplace or Exchange. This involves quite a bit of time, effort, and general knowledge of the Gaian economy.

Myths

Posting

~Longer posts get you more gold.

~The more gold you have stored, the more gold you get from posts.

~Post actions, such as rolling dice or random number generation, get you more gold.

~Formatted text gets you more gold.

~The flood control doesn't work between guilds. Besides being a separate flood control for both the main forum and the guild networks, there are separate flood controls for each guild.

~Posting images gives more gold.

Polling

~Which option you pick in a poll (first, second, etc.) matters.
