I'm considering adding a manga and comics as a topic for the guild. To me they fall under the catagory of books but not everyone feels the same way I do. So do you think manga and comics should be included? Do you think of them as books? Do you even like them? If you think of them as books to you think of the as being inferior to normal books?
Should there be a manga/comic book of the month thread?
Let's hear your view on the subject.

Hmmm...personally, I don't count Manga as books. I think they should have their own thread. But it's up to you! ^^

I think Manga, while nice, aren't quite really books. With Manga, it's less reading and more looking at the pictures. I think we should stick to what we've got.

I think we should make a thread for them.
I feel that they are books, but instead of only reading thewords, you read the pictures as well. Different body language, and scenery, etc, whether it's written in words or not, it still tells a story.

Manga and comics are not books, although I admit. I once called them books because you can find them at a "bookstore". But that does not make them books.

While I love them, they aren't true books.

Mangas should be counted as a book, for one, as said already, they are sold in bookstores, for two, they do promote some level of literacy to the public. Though I do think that they are inferior to regular books *don't kill me, I am an anime fanatic* A manga/comic of the month might be a good idea though, it just depends of whether or not everyone's nominating Inuyasha or Naruto because there are other series out there.

Manga/comics should be added. They are books. Only a lot of them are a tad childish. I do read several series and there is a lot more reading involved than most think.
Examples Manga Death Note Comic Silver Surfer. (In before shitty movie)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Currently I am thinking I will make one or two threads for comics/manga but limit it to that. I know I'm a total comic nerd so my views are in favor of comics. I will be managing the threads to encourage people to broaden their views on comics by reading titles they might not know of. There are many comics that contain very complex ideas and stories. Still I would like this guild to remain mostly about books.
Please feel free to continue the debate on the topic of comics on manga.

I feel that they are books. I've seen a lot of people increase their literacy by reading mangas even though they don't particularly like reading. I personally have only gotten into about three series (Inu Yasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and Initial D) but I think there should definitely be a sub-forum for manga.

I believe that manga are indeed books. If you want to give manga/comics their own thread, that is up to you, but I believe you should. One reads books, and one reads manga and comics. This is just my opinion, though.

Manga and comics are books, I think, and they deserve their own thread. I nominate +Anima for the manga of the month, if that is decided on. I reccomend that one--if you like sci-fi/fantasy manga, check it out. Though it's true that I prefer novels over mangas and comics, they're still books, however inferior. I actually subscribe to Shonen Jump....
Darn my clumsy sentence structure in such matters--I hope I got that all out right. xD

I think manga and comics are book small books but books all the same. In fact if they put most of the superhero comics in one book for each superhero then no one would complain about comics not being books.

Comics are books. I don't know that many manga to judge... but besides childish phantasy stories there are some comics that are real "graphic novels". Some of these are certainly better than some of "normal books" I've read.

I think that Manga should be considered a book.
