Jean Claude had just left the home he had, in search of his daughter. He hadnt seen her in awhile, and was getting tired of being alone.
He wished he could find someone to help him on his quest in life. He was sick of being alone, and truly wished he had others who cared about him.
He shook his tail, brushing along his sides, casting blue eyes to the sunless sky.
He loved the dark, and he let the darkness wash over him.
How would he ever meet anyone out in the dark.. out by himself..

It wasn't the most sociable of times to be out, given where she came from the concept of exploring in the dark was ever so slightly peculiar. Then again, there was no one to point this out to her and no one to discipline her. It was strange, strange to have such freedom when she had grown so accustomed to having her moves watched by every elder within the herd - they had always been strict.
Within the Kawani lands, they seemed much more relaxed and much more pleasant. Granted, she hadn't met many but they were less inclined to demand what the purpose of your stay was, nor would they be determined to limit any move you might make...any plans. Her herd even controlled mates, pairings - so strange to be free to roam.
It had been a good decision, rather unexpected but she wasn't about to go back now - perhaps the influence of her unseen 'brother' was to blame but she would thank him when she found him.
Her petite form wasn't particularly noticeable in the dark, her pelt didn't glow and nor did she make much noise but the silhouette would be seen by the observant if nothing else...

Jean stopped, his ears erect as he heard the sound of hooves. His eyes were cautious and open and he continued to cast his eyes down the trails.
He wasnt sure what was coming, but the forest was big enough for anyone to approach, and he was very aware of his surroundings.
He shook his head, black ringlets bobbing and he smiled.
The darkness was playing tricks on him again..

The darkness wasn't playing tricks on the stallion, nor were the forest nymphs who the mare would have assumed were in a deep slumber by now. She had never seen on, but she had heard stories and had simply decided they were true. They may have been high tales but sometimes you need small, white lies to live with reality - fairy stories and high tales were one manner of escape.
Still immersed in her own thoughts, the petite mare gave a small shake of her head and send the cream strands rippling across her dappled pelt. In the briefest instance the clean condition enabled the moonlight to gleam for a brief moment before fading once more - a flash of light and yet no thunder clap.
Shifting her amber eyes across the expanse, she was only mildly aware that she was 'alone'. Her lack of interest in her surroundings would probably have seemed so unwise to the soquili of these lands but in a herd where 'over protective' took on an entirely new meaning the need for an awareness of surroundings was slim unless it was your job to guard the herd.

Keeping his head high, he watched the now visible mare. He knew, for sure, she wasnt seeing him, and he made sure she didnt.
He kept himself hidden among the trees, letting the darkness cover him. The lightning wasnt doing him any favors, but that was fine, he was covered enough as it was.
He had remembered a night like this in France. His 'rider' had driven him into the rain and storms, and had him stalk others.. And when they'd gotten close enough, the rider usually killed what they were stakling.. More often than not, it was another two legger..
He had lived that life for far too long.. and then he had been sent here.. traded like a useless utensil for a couple of tobacco peices from the natives..
But he liked it better here.. He was free, and worried not about being hurt most of the time.
Hell, he'd even had children..
He had a great life..
[CRASH!]
His mind was brought back to reality as he heard the clap of lightning. Again, he watched the golden mare.

The crash above her head caused her glazed expression to clear and with an eerie calmness she turned her gaze upwards. Her ears swivelled in response to the rather unexpected interruption and she briefly awaited the coming of a flash from above - as of yet, no lightning came but the wiff of rain caught her nose and she shook her head.
The weather had been too good to her as of late. She was rather unsurprised that it had chosen to rain now and released a small chuckle of amusement as the first droplets patted against her nose. Not long after they had dampened her pelt, they began to slide slowly to the tip and drop down onto the grass below.
It took a little more than thunder to scare her, rather it calmed her and a relaxed smile appeared on her lips shortly after. It might have been infuriating for her on-looker, to remain unnoticed...or perhaps he would savour is anonymity...

He felt no need any longer to remain hidden. He just didnt care much about the issue. He stepped out from the darkness, sure she knew he was there now. Black tail still blending with the trees, he smiled, letting his white teeth stand out, along with his sapphire blue orbs that were watching her.
"I feel I should ask why someone as pretty as you is off on your own.. But I have a feeling it wouldnt have the effect I want."
He smiled, he was just teasing, no harm done. He didnt mean to make her uncomfortable, in fact, wanted her to be able to say things to him.
"DO forgive me if I have intruded."

"You would not believe me if I told you," Her response was smooth as she allowed her amber eyes to slip towards the owner of the voice. What she was greeted with was a rather muscular stallion with the oddest looking teeth. They looked rather sharp, a little too sharp to be dining on leaves unless the leaves were particularly tough in this region - in which case she would have a few problems.
"That being said, I do not own these lands so I fail to see how you would be intruding," She shifted easily from one foot to another, indicating that his appearance hadn't startled her. Perhaps it was the confidence she had in herself that enabled her to present such a front but she had never really addressed this herself - she had never needed to.
"Although I should think I have the right to ask the same question of yourself, sir." She mused, her meaning unclear.

He shrugged, keeping his smile about him. Jean Claude was very seldom the one to initiate contact with anyone.. But this mare intrigued him.
He stomped his own hoof, letting it dig into the earth beneath him.
She was a fair mare. Her golden hair matching the golden of her body. She was absolutely beautiful.. But her eyes caught him the most.
"I dont like the sun.. and I live around here.. I tend to travel around here about this time every night.. But Ive never seen you around.. Do you live around here?"

Well, the mare certainly hadn't expected an answer, it was enough for her to pause briefly. Her gaze became almost sharp as she observed the stallion and seemed to assess him with a critical eye - Every. Last. Inch. It was only after a few moments that she was entirely satisfied and allowed her gaze to return to his. She was never one to avoid eye contact, her mother had taught her better than that.
"I see," That was the only response she could afford in the given circumstances, there was something amiss with this male but not in the sense that she would bolt and never return. Something just didn't fit, a soquili that hid in the depths of the shadows...there was much fun to be had in daylight, so much more to see. Shaking her head against the droplets infringing on her personal space, she at last spoke again.
"You could say that I am here in passing, a visitor to these lands...so to speak."

"A visitor, ay? Well, I dont even see many of those around here.. It seems to be that many try and stay away from these parts."
He stiffened his legs, letting himself look tall. Not from Pride, or attractiveness, but more because he was comfortable standing that way. No need to slouch.
"Are you looking for someone in particular?"
Indeed shed have to be to be passing through. No one ever came through here, as there was nothing on the other side. No green trees, and no grass. Just more mountain. So if she was here, she must be looking for someone, or something..

Ding!
He had asked the question and a smile grew upon her lips - she had come to these lands for the sole purpose of locating a particular individual. She was unaware that being in this particular location made that so obvious though. Uncertain as to whether this was a good or bad thing the mare took the opportunity as was presented to her and nodded.
"My brother," She replied gently and cleared her throat, tossing her head back lightly to remove the bangs from her eyes. That alone was enough for her to snort as the droplets hit her muzzle - she sent a look upwards to express her lack of appreciation for that intrusion.
"They said he would be somewhere in these lands, from the sounds of things he seems to be lurking further up," she mused softly, flicking the water away from her ears in the process, "Either that or I have missed him in the lowlands and forests at some point, the Kawani is a very big place...isn't it?"

"Oui, It tends to be very big indeed."
He said, offering a nod, and looking back at the mare. So she was looking for her brother. In order for him to be higher up in the mountains that would mean, Kalona. But she was not a kalona, so he narrowed his brows confused.
"Ma'am, you must be heading in the wrong direction. All that lives up in the top of the mountains, are kalonas and skin walkers. I daresay, I dont see you being related to either."
He shook his own mane, letting his black mass of curls curl back around his neck, as to keep his eyes clear as to see the mare.
"What would his name be?"
Maybe he saw him..He could help-Wait.. How could he help? He was a recluse himself.

"Looks can be deceiving," Ashura replied, her tone was even and somewhat wistful in relation to his comment. She had a feeling she would be hearing such things quite often here but none knew the truth. Not even she knew exactly what her brother looked like, only fleeting details that she had managed to pry from unwilling tongues after many weeks of questioning...even her mother refused to speak of him.
His name, well that was as good as the next person's guess.
"My herd refer to him as a monster so who knows?" She offered a wry smile and flicked her braided tail against her flank. So, according to this stallion all the undesirable creatures lived further up...by the way her herd had made her brother out to be, he would fit right in!
"Although they never did give me his name. To be honest they didn't say very much at all." She confessed, unprepared to inform the stallion that she had run away from home in an attempt to find the stallion they had called a monster.
"Doesn't really give me a great deal to go on does it?" She enquired with a faint smile on her lips.

"How can you know something that was never told to you?"
He gave her a smile. So, if he was considered a monster to his herd, then it was quite possible the golden mare was on the right path to finding her brother. Monsters resided up there. Monsters of every degree. He now thought it possible for her to be in the right direction.
"Miss, I must say, that if you do not know whom you seek, how do you hope to find him? And when you do find him, how do you know t'will be him?"
He wasnt being pessimistic, moreso curious as to what she was thinking of doing. It intrigued him.
