Yup.... I'm new to herbal (spelling?) healing stuff and it seems interesting. though i don't have any faith in modern medicine...mostly beacuse they say this one thing is the best thing for you in the world, and then 10 years later it causes cancer and blah blah blah... by the way, are eggs healthy again or not?

i think the human race has gotten cocky off their own wonders.... we are all too willing to accept something as good... and today, there is a survey to tell you that most people that listen to their music really loud have hearing problems later on in life. who in their right mind would do a survey about that? it's common sense...but humanity has lost this. atleast, that is what i believe.

on another note, i'm more of a mind over matter person. i believe that if the mind is sick, the body will follow. if the mind is healthy and strong, the body will be even more so. there are things that can effect only the body and not the mind, but far more that effects the mind, which then effects the body. (I.E. emotional break ups, loss of parents, blah blah blah)

so, i was wondering... i have problems with my knee sometimes.... like, if i land on it too hard, it'll hurt like a mofo and it will freeze, preventing me from bending my knee at all...i tried when it was really bad and blacked out due to pain... >.> so thoughts, ideas? weird herbs?

i've gone to a few doctors, and they have no idea what it really is. first they thought that the mussles on one side of my leg were stronger than the other side so it was pulling my knee cap, but that wouldn't explain the mass pain at times. then another said i have a tendon (SP?) under my knee cap...so that if i land wrong the tendon swells and pain city, here i come.

Arnica gel for the swelling, hot compresses when it's damaged and hurting, and if you want you could make a comfrey poultice and use that hot. Be nice to your knees, they're your friend. sweatdrop firsthand knowledge of damaged knees. ONe I messed up a long time ago in a basketball accident, and it's permanently damaged, and the other just last Feb, in a car accident. Figure out what action causes the pain and don't do it anymore. It might be tendonitis, the swelling of a tendon causing pain and inflammation... no promises, though. I'd have to see and touch it to be sure. Knee strengthening exercises are good too. Do "invisible chair" sitting against a wall, starting about a fortyfive degree angle and working down to ninety when it's comfortable. Also, sit with your leg out straight (the damaged knee) and put a folded washcloth or dishtowel under the knee. Then press down against the towel by tightening your kneecap. Work at those until you can do a hundred easy and then do fifty each morning and fifty each night. It takes about five minutes, max, and it strengthens the tendons and muscles around the kneecap. Both exercises were given to me by my therapist to repair the damage done around my kneecap.
Be careful when you're doing leg presses or anything that puts weight on the knee itself until you're sure it's strong enough. Swimming is a great thing, too because it lengthens and stretches tendons as well as getting fit.
When in doubt, ice. If it hurts, ice it down. When it's stiff, heat it up. Alternate hot and cold every ten minutes. As cold as you can stand it, and then as hot as you can stand it, four or five rotations. It works stiff muscles.
Good luck!

You poor, poor thing. When I was in the marines (not too long ago) there were always people with leg injuries and the doctors could never say what was wrong. I think Kyoki has probably given you the best advice. When I had some knee problems and shin splints and stuff they told me it was because of overpronation but the stuff they did to help only seemed to make it worse. I think it was probably all just because I have really mild scoliosis and one leg is like a fraction of an inch longer when my back shifts to one side (I don't remember which). It went away when I stopped running on hills all the time and gave my legs a rest. Stretching helped too.

well...it isn't a injury....because within the past year it's been happening to both knees...

though, kinda odd....it's on my right knee, but it's my left that is covered in scars and is the one that took the full impact of most of my crashes....

....^_^ since i was....8? i've been riding bikes like crazy. and...you know, my family has a saying... "if you don't crash, you aren't riding hard enough" not that i did anything horrificly stupid like jump my bike or anything (mountain bike, by the way, not dirt)...just that.....well....yeah, it's bound to happen? i think the 2 worse things that has happend to my knees in a crash was when i was rollerblading down a hill and lost control.... and fall....when i finaly stoped, i was on my front side on the sidewalk facing the way i came from with a big black x on the sidewalk from my knee pads..... i never did anything without those kneepads after that...

the other was about a year before my knees got really bad....my front tire on my mountain bike decided it wanted to go right.....when the bike and slant wanted to go left... well, i'll let you figure out who won... next thing i know, i'm 10 feet in front of my bike and there are 2 yellow lines right in front of me... (don't you love highways?) you could see the bone in my hand, but that took the blunt of it....my chest hurt like a mfo and i had a bruise for 3 weeks, and i did land on my right knee, but thank god i wear jean shorts that are long enough to reach my knees...so that my jeans were a few layers thinner, but my knee was unscratched...

o.O maybe these will help determain my problem?

Biking all the time probably puts a lot of strain on your knees, especially mountain biking, maybe the cartilage is starting to wear thin. Next time I talk to my step dad I'll ask him if he's ever had problems. He used to do bike marathons and stuff before he married my mom.

Holy crap. eek My dad's a biker too, and he's had knee issues.

Does it feel like someone's shoving an ice pick under your kneecap? Or like something sharp is digging into the meat under the 'cap? That's what my dad has.

I agree, sounds just like my Dad's knee problems from too much skiing. Kyoki Marie's advice sounds great.

Oh lord. I'm gonna recommend Ginseng. It's the herb of the week (I mentioned that it would be a nice herb of the week because I found out in my dictionary of modern herbalism that is helps ith authritis, because my grandmother has it) Anyways, that might help.

My dad had something like this...the cartledge in his knee had come loose, and was flipping in and out of place.

Good luck.
