Hey! Savatage is actually my favorite band!!!! That's where Jon Oliva came from. Criss Oliva (Savatage's old guitarist) is my main inspiration.

Playing guitar isn't just about fancy tricks, its all about tone...

Yeah, Tone is the greatest part of guitar, but Tricks doesn't hurt the process at all...
Doing neat tricks helps you excel as a guitarist and helps your music excel into greater domains.
Look at Dream Theatre... Most people consider Sweep picking a "Trick"...

I need to learn more about soloing as I'm prone to the same melodic keys and I need to become a bit more technical about it.

Draomere I need to learn more about soloing as I'm prone to the same melodic keys and I need to become a bit more technical about it. I had that same problem awhile back! I would always want to solo in A minor. But then again, I love Blues so...

Listen to some classic Ozzy songs. Then watch the Live ath the Buddokan DVD where Zakk Wild ******** EVERYTHING UP.
Some of the best guitarists I ever heard, didn't do stupid tricks. They didn't show off how fast they can play. They just made somethign sound good.
