I obsess over calories, and if I don't like how many are in it, I'll either not buy it if I'm at the store, or not eat it if I have it at the house. I only let myself eat between 500 and 700 calories a day, if I go over anymore than that, I feel horrible. Sometimes I'll even skip meals. I'm practically terrified of eating a full meal, so I only like half of whats on my plate. I obsess over the scale, and I am overweight, and I'm trying to not be, I'm trying to loose weight. But I want to do it in a healthy manner, but I'm afraid that if I continue my eating habits like this, it could possibly develop an eating disorder. I've had issues with them before, but now I'm really worried. Do you guys think that could happen, or am I being super paranoid? I'm deathly afraid to tell my mom about it and she hasn't really noticed much.

First off, obsessing over calories is not the way to lose weight and keep it off. A lot of people make the mistake of skipping meals, and it's actually counter productive because it slows down your metabolism, making it harder to burn less off in the long run. Also, there's the obvious risk of malnourishment. I recommend stocking up on foods like celery and lettuce (Both of these have a very high water content, plenty of vitamins and minerals, and a calorie count close to 0), and at the very least snacking on them instead of skipping meals entirely. I think this could definitely develop into an eating disorder if it keeps up. Have you considered seeing a nutritionist?

I agree with Captain, that instead of cutting out meals entirely, i think you should find healthy things to eat instead. you may have to prepare your own meals, but thats not that hard! you can get some really awesome stuff, thats healthy too. and i would talk to your mom about it, just because she can be a major support system for you, so that you arent going through this alone, and so she doesnt start to worry, if you do start losing a lot of weight!

I eat alot healthier than I used to. I've cut out alot of crap from my diet, and I still drink some diet soda, I know I need to cut it out too, but I just can't lol. I do buy like grapes and carrots and broccoli to snack and low calorie things. Food just kind of scares me now. But with eating better and making healthier choices, I'm not so scared of it.

This takes a little bit of self-control, but it helps me a lot. I have a stash of those little 100-calorie Kit Kat bars and snack packs, and I keep them in a drawer with a pen and paper, and I write down every time I have one (once a week, twice if I'm really craving it). Before I take one, I'll check the "cheat sheet" and see when the last time I had one was, and if I feel like I deserve one, I'll take it.
If you don't think you have the self-control, you could always have your mom hide the treats and administer them. But I think the occasional treat is completely necessary. You won't feel too bad, 'cause 100 calories isn't a lot (You burn off 60-80 calories an hour just by breathing) but it helps my esteem to let me know my diet doesn't "rule me", and it prevents large-scale binges because you just can't take it anymore.
I don't know if the binging thing is a problem for you, but it is for me gonk so I hope this helps.

Oh I love the little 100 calorie things. I don't have a problem with binge eating though. But I do write down everything that I eat and drink and how many calories are in it. I just feel bad when I eat like a treat or something. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I feel like I don't deserve it, because I feel like a whale most of the time. After the past few days, I haven't been obsessing too much over my weight, but that could probably be because I'm in the process of moving and that takes alot of my mind space.

I recently started on a diet. Trying to get a part in a film me and my friend are producing. We're trying to get within the weight limit together.
I'm a rational thinker. I know: Low Calorie Diets Don't work. I know why they don't work. I know that the only way to lose weight is a healthy diet, and exercise.
I don't calorie count. I use VAGUE calorie counting. You know that Recommended 2000? Yeah, just try to stay between 1000 and 2000 and you should be alright. Preferably, you eat over 1500. Though i can see if you think you ate too much the day before, slipping down just a little bit on the low end of the scale.
Guess how much I have lost? 30 pounds. I've dropped two pants sizes, and for the first time since I was twelve, I am wearing an XL shirt.
Here's the Newski way:
Walk 2 miles every morning, after a lite breakfast (frankly, I like to eat. So I eat my larger meals later, with friends). I do weights every other morning.... I wouldn't recommend that for everyone though... It hurts like hell... So maybe five-fifteen minutes of random exercises. No More Soda. Vitamins (NOT DIET PILLS!). Vitamins are a natural, safe way of making sure you have the nutrients needed, and one of the benefits is it regulates your metabolism. Even if it's just Flintstone's Kids. I take vitamins because I'm a vegetarian and therefore don't get everything I need.

okay, im being a bit random right now...: eat celery. honestly, it tastes good and it's healthy and you can eat, like, a billion punds of it and then work it all of with maybe a half an hour of running. Trust me, I weigh soo much. 165 pounds on a five-eleven fourteen year old. I've got flab up the wazzoo. Don't obsess over the scale, it only makes things worse. Oh, yeah... even though it is dietsoda. It actually gives you more water weight, which can throw off the scale quite a bit actually. Buy a treadmill or a bike or something. Watch TV while you work out, or read a book or something.
