(Ummm what happened to my first choice? T'isn't my position, T'was suppoed to be poll for checking off if the reader believes the Tarot to be okie-dokie. ???? Just s'plaining why t'is up there! Not My position!!!)
A good friend of mine recently inquired if Tarot Cards are against the Catholic Church. I have come to believe from bad experience that they can bring on demonic attacks. However, some people do seem to have a gift of "second sight."
For example, many gifted Police Officers and detectives who have been tested do seem to have intuitive gifts that are difficult for science to explain. Also, sometimes the Police consult psychics who give accurate information to help solve crime.
I have read in the CCC that divination is not acceptable, however the Tarot was not explicitly mentioned.
Does anyone wish to comment on this subject?

Hmm, my first thought would be yes- they're sinful. But maybe I'm just too conservative for my own good =P I personally wouldn't use them.

the catholic church does not allow the practice of superstitions, whether people have these powers or not, we are not allowed to take part in them, or believe in them(as in make decisions in our life based on some fortune teller)
even if someone can tell the future or have some kind of "third eye" there is no saying that the devil isn't behind it, the devil is very smart, and he can do what even seems good, just to lead us away from God, we just can't trust it. and it is a mortal sin to take part in fortune telling.

Personally, I think if you are doing them just for the fun of it that it is okay - you don't plan on believing it. But if you are doing it to expect your future out of it, then it is a sin. For example, sometimes I read horoscopes in the newspaper for fun. I think that they are funny and silly, but I don't actually believe them. I wouldn't consider that a sin.

You know I think this is the correct answer ... but when I repented to a Catholic Priest in confession he told me it wasn't a sin. domokun Using Tarot cards gave me temporary dementia -- I think it was a demonic attack brought on when I read the Truth in the Bible.

i've had a reading that came true and that scared me, because it came true in a way that i did't expect.
but i don't quite know what to think of them. there is somthign to them, but i just don't know if they are evil. and it's out of my personal nature to beleive anythign is truly evil except for the devil.

Horoscopes can just be really amusing. And I rather enjoy making fun of people who choose life partners based on astrological signs. But anyway. I'd say that anything that involves any sort of "psychic ability" should just be taken with a grain of salt. I don't think it's a sin as long as you don't take it too seriously or get too involved.

Were not the three "wise men" who followed the star astrologers? I am not sure about astrology either ... I think looking at the stars were early man's attempt at science? Am I wrong? ... Horoscopes frequently are inaccurate... what about asking each other for their "sign." My children and I are somewhat interested in Chinese Astrology. I am a sheep, my daughter a Tiger and my son is a Dog. These seem to fit us to a "T" silly me!

That's why we Irish put out Jack-o-Laterns at All Hallow's Eve --- to frighten away the spirits in purgatory who wander the earth and want to come home to us for the winter.Should keep them up from October 29th thru the end of All Soul's Day! "Video Mortuos Homines" LoL!!!

And, before more modern technology, the stars really were all people had to navigate out in large open spaces. Again, I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with astrology so long as it's taken with a grain of salt. Sometimes it's fun to read up on astrological or zodiac signs and see similarities in the descriptions and your personality, and I think that's fine so long as you don't take it too seriously.
