Appearance: Varek is, for the most part, human. He is tall and lanky, but very well-muscled. He has long, wavy, platinum blonde hair, golden yellow eyes, and pale, sallow skin. He would look quite sickly, were he not so visibly vigorous. He wears an assortment of different outfits, most of them leather.
Personality: Seeing as the UNSC created him, betrayed him, and then attempted to kill him, Varek has a very negative opinion of government and a very pessimistic outlook on the good it can do. He's come to believe that people mean very little to the government. He’s even gone so far as to say that the laws that were made to protect them are actually meant to enslave them. What Varek desires above all else is absolute, unadulterated freedom. That’s why he became a space pirate. As a pirate, Varek is no longer restricted by the law, and thus is totally free to indulge to his baser, more animalistic cravings. Varek is very selfish and greedy. When all else fails, he has been known to sacrifice his own men to achieve his goals. However, there are certain people whom he would never betray. Varek does not trust easily, but once his trust is earned, it is not easily broken. He is loyal to his ‘pack,’ and will do whatever he can to protect them.
Bio: Varek is a parahuman, a human-animal hybrid. When he was a child, Varek was abducted for use as a test subject in a series of illegal experiments called Project CHIMERA (he remembers nothing before this point in his life). These experiments included extensive gene splicing and crude surgical procedures. The goal of Project CHIMERA was to create a group of parahuman supersoldiers by combining suitably gifted human beings with powerful, predatory animals to enhance their natural abilities. Many children were abducted. Those who survived were officially conscripted by Section Three of the Office of Naval Intelligence of the United Nations Space Command’s Defense Force. Varek was conscripted and trained as an elite soldier and black operations unit. He served in the UNSCDF for many years. Then, some time ago, the UNSCDF turned on the CHIMERA supersoldiers, beginning a campaign intended to cover up all traces of their illicit experiments and their results. Varek, having been betrayed by his superiors, betrayed them in turn, becoming a notorious space pirate. However, his notoriety comes at a price, as all manner of law enforcement agencies are after him, as well as the UNSCDF, still attempting to finish what they started.

Weaponry: Varek prefers to use his own body as his weapon, fighting with tooth and claw and pure animal brutality. However, he retains his military training, and is skilled in the use of many different weapons. Aside from his own hands and feet, one weapon Varek likes to use is a sword resembling a Terran scimitar. The blade is about 36” (91.44 cm) in length and is made of processed titanium and forged in iron. Its edge is microscopically serrated, efficient for slashing, and its tip is sharp. A decorative design is carved into its side, most likely ancient alien runes. Varek does not like to use guns, but he typically carries a pair of oversized and overpowered handguns named the .454 Casull and the Jackal. Both guns are semi-automatic, around 1’4” (39 cm) in length, and around 35.2 lbs (16 kg) in weight. Neither are a weapon a normal human could hope to handle. The .454 Casull fires custom-made full metal jacket (FMJ) explosive rounds filled with shrapnel. The Jackal, on the other hand, fires special 13 mm armor-piercing bullets encased in processed titanium. The charges are made of nitroglycerin. The .454 Casull holds about 15 rounds per magazine, while the Jackal holds only 6.

Skills/Powers: In human form, Varek seems normal, except that he operates at and beyond the peak of human physical fitness. He possesses superhuman strength and celerity, as well as well as an accelerated rate of cellular regeneration that gifts him with extraordinary healing abilities. However, Varek also possesses the power of metamorphosis (shape-shifting), and is capable of changing 25%, 50%, or 100% into wolf form. At 25%, he displays wolfish features, such as fangs, fur, ears, and claws (see "appearance"). In this form, he is still primarily bipedal. At 50%, he resembles the standard werewolf archetype, half-man and half-wolf. In this form, he is still primarily bipedal. At 100%, he appears as a monstrously large wolf. In this form, he is quadrupedal. Varek’s abilities in wolf form are severely amplified by the phases of the planet’s moon. The fuller the moon, the stronger his abilities.
Special Attributes: extremely acute senses (especially scent), quick reflexes, high metabolism.
Faults: Mentally, Varek is very proud and overconfident. He is said to fear nothing, not even death, which often results in reckless, sometimes suicidal behavior. Physically, Varek must consume large amounts of food, due to his high metabolism, and fighting on an empty stomach is something he cannot do. He sometimes suffers violent seizures, resulting from a faulty gene purposely inserted into his genome by the UNSC, and must take tryptophan supplements to control them. Also, whenever Varek becomes enraged, his animal side takes over, throwing him into a berserker state. This also occurs when he shifts more than 25% into wolf form, and thus he uses it only as a last resort.
