Why is it that "hippies" are linked to democrats? I really don't appreciate that. It seems to me that every time people think of democrats they think of hippies, homesexuals, etc. The guild said it didn't matter what we were, and we wouldn't be judged for it. Here it is already, useless stereotypes and lies.

My definition of a hippie.
I guess I think of hippies as just awesome people. Many of my friends are hippies and I guess I could be considered one too. Not all hippies use drugs, either. They are just a group of people who are for peace, love, friendship, and togetherness. They are against war, and much of authority. Music is greatly linked to hippies. They are just fun, peaceful, trustworthy, awesome people.

I'm an environmentalist, and I've been called a hippie before. Honestly, I think it's just a slang term for the stereotype of the 60's and 70's. I'll even call myself a hippie sometimes, but I think I'm too obsessive about things to ever truly be one. whee

ScreamSilently Why is it that "hippies" are linked to democrats? Maybe it is because "hippies" are liberal thinkers and democrats take more of a liberal stance than republicans on issues.

To me, it seems that hippies are people who are willing to stand up for their (liberal) beliefs, no matter how radical they are.
Hippies are linked to Democrats because they both are supposed to be liberal.

Here it is already, useless stereotypes and lies. Where people are, there will always be opinions that are at least partially untrue. is this such a bad thing? It gives us a chance to debate with them, and show them the truth. I think that, really, debating is one of the most fun activities in the entire world. Sometimes, the opinions that others have can be harmful and offensive, and i think that they should know that and keep their opinions in check. Otherwise, debating should not be restrained. after all, that's what this guild is about!

ScreamSilently Well yes, but it seems that whenever someone thinks of a democrat, they think of a "dirty hippie." This is a blatant tactic to alienate and stereotype someone in a negative way so that you don't actually have to listen to them when they disagree with you. Its a lazy brain tactic for those who are too proud to admit it when you say something useful, but don't actually have a rebuttal.

Eh... i hate stereotypes... there usually wrong, and it just makes everyone look foolish and immature when they compare or claim a stereotype... i have a very open minded personality, but most people put me in the stereotypical teen angst category... even though its mostly what what i wear, like, and what i voice in debates with people over this kind of thing... and that truely pisses me off, because im a good kid who LIKES baggy clothes because there comfortable, and LIKES rock music... both my parents are cops, and im against drugs and alcohol, but i can understand why people use them, and can sympathize with them, because i understand why they do it... but because i voice these opinions, people snipe at me, and i get in trouble... in not the person that i'm seen as, and its wrong! the exact same thing has happened to hippies! i think the whole idea of voicing your opinions against anything should be heard, and i really wish people would stop sniping at others who do not think the same way about things, and just look at their ideas... the hippies have a good idea, maybe the ones who use drugs (a lot do, to voice their opinions through the media and to oppose the government, we all know this) should cut back a bit, but all in all, they DO have the right idea: peaceful and opinionated protests in a (mostly) global society based on the freedom of ideas and speach, and the RIGHT to protest... they shouldn't be ridiculed or overlooked because of their beliefs and what the media and typical stereotypes have labeled them as... its just doesn't seem right to me...

Well on Facebook, I'm in a group called "Left-Wing, Communist, Jewish, Homosexual Pornographers" just to make fun of all the stereotypes. It's really fun to see peoples reactions.
