"um i'm probably not the healthiest person around but my diet isn't to bad usually. My only real problem is probably having to much salt. typically if i can have something sweet or something salty/spicy i'll go with the spicy/salty. So i was wondering what having to much salt does...."

It dehydrages you, and causes kidney stones.
That's what comes to mind right off...

Well, lets see here. ^-^ Webmd.com's Dr. Dean Ornish Question: What happens if you eat too much salt?
Answer: Salt is not inherently bad for most people. Indeed, it is essential to life -- one of the reasons that Mahatma Gandhi made his march to the sea to make a stand over the rights to salt.
Salt is overrated as a health hazard for most people. Some cookbooks claim to be healthful just because the recipes are low in salt, even though they are loaded with fat and cholesterol.
People who have congestive heart failure, kidney disease, or high blood pressure would benefit from decreasing their salt consumption. Your body maintains a closely regulated concentration of sodium in your body. If you eat a lot of salt (sodium chloride), then the concentration of sodium increases. To bring it back to normal, your body has two options: excrete the excessive sodium in your urine, or hold onto more water so you can dilute the concentration of sodium in your blood.
If you hold onto more water, then you may feel more bloated. Also, your blood pressure may increase, because you have more volume in a closed system -- like forcing more air into a tire that's already full. One of the consequences of high blood pressure is progressive kidney damage, as your blood hits the kidney tubules with too much force. As kidneys become more damaged, they lose the ability to excrete salt into your urine, so you hold onto more water to dilute the concentration of sodium. This increased volume increases your blood pressure, causing more kidney damage, and so on in a vicious cycle.
Although salt is one of the four basic tastes (salt, sweet, sour, bitter), your preference for salt can be modified. If you consistently decrease the amount of salt in your diet, at first the food tastes like it needs more salt. After a week or two, the food tastes fine -- and if you go out to dinner, suddenly the food tastes too salty.
For people who need to restrict their intake of salt, you might also try substituting potassium chloride (available in most groceries) for sodium chloride. While it doesn't taste as good as regular salt to most people, some studies indicate that potassium may actually lower your blood pressure.Copyright 2001 WebMD Inc. All rights reserved.

....on the flip side of all this, it isn't smart to go "oh, i need soandso mineral..." and then inhale mass of whatever foods....that is actually stupid, and can throw your body into disaray...
if you find that your body is low on some mineral or another, don't sit there and drink masses of milk or take calcium tablets to get more calcium.... just drink a class a day or so. it's all about mederation.... my grandmother has a problem of taking in too much of a mineral.... v.v throws her body into shock and then i end up calling the paramedics... >.< sucks filling out the first on sence paperwork for that... trust me...
moral: don't eat mass bananas or what not....slowly adabt it into yoru diet.... and then only have one every a week, then move on to one every 4 or so days.... you never want to be overloaded with a mineral.

Very true. Also, when it doubt, take a good over-the-counter one-a-day multivitamin. There's no need to swamp yourself with change. It happens gradually- not all at once.

Haha, don't worry, out of your entire lists of fruit and vegetables, I see two things I know she doesn't hate. As for the "other" list, I'm sure she can find at least a few things and she knows better than to eat chocolate or ice cream in excess I hope. Hehe. When we were kids Vanya was notorious for hating fruits and wasn't much better with veggies except for like broccoli and cauliflour. Our poor mother. xp

So i was wondering what having to much salt does...." "...and i don't really eat enough fruit either. i don't like fruit..." whee Hi, I thought I would get back to the original issue of too much salt.... regular old table salt is basically iodized sodium chloride. This is the stuff that retains water, raises blood pressure etc.. We switched to organic celtic sea salt , which is basically as nature intended, not an overproccessed chemical. Sea salt is only 37.2% sodium / 100 grams. Unlike regualr salt it is actually good for you as it minerals are still intact. it also has 550mg of magnesium, 400 of calcium and 160 of potassium as well as various trace minerals / 100grams. to benefit from sea salt it must be organic and it must be unrefined ( grey, not white) it can be found in most larger grocery stores & health food stores. hope this helps.

haha....good old salts...
now that i think of it, salt is both good and bad for you... and no salt is organic.
salt is the result of a base and a acid mixing and becoming nutrual.
our bodies also produce salt.

Hi, I agree , sodium chloride , or what most people refer to as salt is not organic, it is a chemical. Celtic sea salt however is. The salt I purchase is certified organic by an independant agency and is hand harvested in Brittany france and sun-dried to retain it's mineral content. to find out more about sea salt check out www.westonaprice.org smile
