"Don't worry, Em! He'll be here...I know he will."
"And how do you know, Mae? Because you have a hunch? Your 'hunches' are always wrong, Mae...we both know that." Emily sighed and turned away from her friend, her back now facing the wall. Her soft peach dress rustled as she moved, twirling slightly with grace. She leaned her back against the wall and sighed again. "Mae...I can't wait forever. I'm leaving tomorrow....this is....this is my last chance...and his."
Mae placed a hand gently on her best friend's shoulder. "I know Em...that's why you have to be strong, and be patient. He'll be here..."
Emily nodded, but as she lifted her head a final time, smile spread across her face as she saw him. But...the smile faded. With another girl? "I knew it was too good to be true. He'll never fall for a girl like me." She turned to her friend with a somewhat forced smile.
"Looks like he lost his chance." She took a deep breath, grabbing her purse from the floor next to her. "Mae...once I'm gone....tell Jayden for me, ok? Please...tell him everything I feel." The tears welled in her eyes, as she threw her arms around her best friends neck. "I'll miss you, Mae."
Mae began to cry as well, as the two friends embraced. "I'll miss you too, Em....more than you'll ever know. Call me when you get there! PLEASE call me. I don't want to loose touch."
"I will....I promise!" Emily let go and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I'll miss you so much...I'll call every day." The girls embraced one last time, maybe the last, and Emily rushed out, not even a glance behind at her first highschool crush.

Jayden rolled his eyes as Kaitlynn leaned out the window of his car, waving to some jocks in the parking lot. "Kaitlynn, get you're head back in. We're parking and it's going to hit the car next to us." He sighed, and angled the car into the parking space.
Kaitlynn obliged, but huffed. "I only asked you here because you're cute. Now don't make me upset, I can ruin your reputation you know." She rolled her eyes as well and opened the door as he parked, her form-tight, pastel pink dress swaying only softly.
"And I only agreed so I would have a date. So c'mon...." he sighed. "I have to...I have to meet someone." They had arrived at the door, and as he opened it, his eyes met those soft, foresty eyes he had hoped to see. He smiled, but suddenly...she turned away, talking to Mae. A million questions ran through his mind. "Stay here, I'll be back in a minute."
"You wish! I'm outa here..."
Jayden ignored the words, for he didn't really care in the first place. As he took a step, ready to rush to Emily's side, he stopped, as the two girls embraced...tears in the emerald eyes he loved. He knew exactly what happened, and as she walked out, he cursed himself, shaking his head. He ran up to Mae, confusion in his eyes... "Where is she going?"

Mae shook her head, turning away from the boy. "You missed her, Jayden. You missed your chance....she's gone."
"What? What do you mean gone? I can still catch her...she's not gone yet!" His voice was frantic. "Where is she going?! I need to know, Mae! Please tell me!"
"Jayden, you know exactly where she's going! She's moving to California!! It was all around school." the girl glared at him, hateful for what he had done to her best friend. "You killed her inside, Jayden. She waited for you! She loved you!! And you ruined it! Coming here with that slut of a girl! Like I said...you missed your chance. There's no catching her now. She'll be gone by four in the morning tomorrow. And I'm sure she's already half way to her house right now. You blew it, boy. You blew it big time." Mae shook her head, and took her own purse, turning to go, but Jayden grabbed her arm.
"You have to help me, Mae, please. You have to."
"I can't, Jayden. This is your fault, and there's nothing I can do..." Mae left, then...leaving the boy to his thoughts. To his crushed heart...to every mistake he had ever made, now not even a speck of dust in his life, because of this. The boy slammed his fist on the table next to him, as a few tears slid down his face. "Gone?" He thought. "She can't be. I can't believe I let this happen!" He shook his head, not letting anyone see his tears, and walked out the same as Mae, his date missing a ride...and his heart missing it's other half.
