...I wouldn't research stuff on my fave anime. Seriously, they lead to pretty big shocks most of the time.
Like this afternoon's find. I was searching for the name 'Yuri' and came up with several characters...
And all of them - save for our favorite redheaded Russian, of course - were female.
eek
I feel sorry for Tala-kun! Demo ne, Nihongo no anime ni koe wa onna no kiku desu ne~ (But then, his voice in the Japanese anime is a bit girly)... xd That doesn't change the fact that he's a guy, dammit!
Anyway, what really got me was the character Yuri from 'Dirty Pair' (followed by 'DP: Girls with Guns' and then 'DP: Mission 1' through to 'DP:Mission 3' and 'DP Flash' and its sequel). Her description was the least favorable of the lot - prissy, really girly and stuff. I liked her character in DP Flash, though; she looked cuter, plus she was described as less of a 'princess' than her earlier counterparts.
As if that weren't enough, I think you guys can guess from the title of the anime alone that Yuri has a partner! No, the mission partner, not the significant other type! lol joke... That is, if you didn't know about the anime yet. Well, Yuri's partner's name just happened to be...
KEI.
Yet another eek for me; I think I did a spit take (my poor laptop)! So I decided to check this guy out...who wasn't a guy after all! It was a girl! No, seriously, almost all other characters named 'Kei' were guys (role reversals?), so... wow. So we have a female character with my name - rather, my nickname - whose partner is a girl named Yuri, and looks like this.
-clicks on link to check if its working- ....Yup, it works.
-stares at character's hair-
Oh. My. Gee. That never fails to get me, no matter how many times I've seen it... I even saw a screencap where Kei was in the same running position as Kai during one episode (when Team BBA was in America, at the PPB All Starz training facility); it was freaky. I'll try to look for the screencap...

Yeah, kind of. She looked more like a female Kai to me... with brighter hair.
I noticed, too, that she's the polar opposite of our fave slate-haired blader:
1. Her attitude --> she's loud, impulsive, and rarely uses her head
2. Skin tone --> Kai's pale, she isn't
3. Eye color --> Kai's are red, rather crimson; this Kei's are green, red's complement on the color wheel.
4. Hair color --> Kai's hair is cool-colored, while Kei's are warm-colored.
I love the fact that she uses a gun, though (her partner Yuri uses a sword). 3nodding

Lol. Dirty Pair Flash...haven't heard that anime in a while.
Yes...although I never watched the anime of Dirty Pair Flash, it's kind of obvious why they're names. Both Yuri and Kei (Kei could be short for something, ne?) can be used for both females and males. Although mostly associated with males, it isn't that big of a surprise...
Not to mention that "Yuri" probably came up as mostly females because, well...yuri = shoujo-ai in a more sexual way...But that was probably already known.
Not to mention that Dirty Pair Flash just seems like a lesbian anime (but, as said, I never watched it, so I wouldn't know). Yuri could be described as a lipstick lesbian, and although Kei has her sexual appeal, she just seems...like a butch, XD

LOL! True...but I'm still not used to anime characters having my name, regardless of gender (like Kusanagi Kei from 'Please, Teacher!'). And I know about the names 'Kei' and 'Yuri' being androgynous...or something like that (can't think of the right term); I'm just used to the former being used for guys and the latter for girls. So learning Tala's original name was Yuri (romanized as Yuriy) was a bit of a surprise for me... xd
However, I prefer Adam Warren's illustration of the Dirty Pair characters, for some strange reason... maybe it's because Kei doesn't have the Kai-like/Julia-like hair? -shrug-
They aren't the only ones with two-toned hair, though; there's Hikaru from Hikaru no Go, only his hairstyle doesn't look like he needs gel or anything.

Y'know, I can imagine the characters 'prepping' for their scenes (imagines them as actors in a movie or television series).
Hikaru: -combs hair- Okay, I'm done! Now where is that Sai? He has my script for the next scene! -leaves room-
Kei: -searching frantically through drawers- Oh, pooh! Stupid bangs getting in my face! Kai! Have you seen my hair gel?
Kai: -looks up from searching through bag- No, I haven't. And FYI, I'm missing my hair gel, too...
Yuri: -peeks in through door- Etou~... Kei? You ready to do that battle scene?
Kei: NO!
xd : I dunno, that's the image I came up with! I think it has something to do with Kai, Rei, and I doing those 'make a character look stupid and/or silly' games...
