Hey all, today I'm taking my first guitar lesson and I was wondering what happened on your first lesson, such as what did you learn? I'm nervous and stoked at the same time xd

In my first lesson, I learned how to read tabs (which took about 2 minutes, because tabs are pretty self explanatory), what string was what, and played a few simple tunes.

The closest thing to a lesson I've ever had was my homeroom teacher showing me a couple of Rush riffs a few months ago, so I wouldn't really be a good advice giver, but just be relaxed and ready for what gets thrown at you.

I really shouldn't be nervous because he's the band/Choir teacher at the school my cousins went to, so he knows what he's doing.

I cant really contribute to this thread in all honesty, because I never took a lesson. I was REALLY debating on taking them though to see what all I'm not getting on my own. So tell me how the lesson goes! I'll probably continue to tach myself until I make the ultimate decision to put my studies in the hands of another.
Though I do have plans to go to college for Classical Guitar.

Depends on what qualifies as a lesson D: I self taught myself starting with studying how a guitar works.. the notes, fretboard, basic chords, fingerpicking, strumming, scales, advanced fingerpicking and strumming, more scales, more chords, and powerchords at last, then moved into barre chords... All self taught man xD if i could then you will be able to do it in a twinkle of an eye.

I didn't get to take the lesson because the guy was going to move another students time up an hour so I could go in after him, but the guy couldn't do that so it's postponed sad

My first lesson was June 26 and my teacher taught me the fret names, the 7th 9th and normal bar chords, and taught me the hendrix chords. I am learning now to use the diff. modes to help soloing and go up and dwn the neck.

I don't remember my first piano lesson or my first violin lesson, but I remember my first bass guitar lesson. Lawl.
I came in, sat down, and after five minutes, my teacher didn't know what to do with me. Obviously, he was not informed that despite the fact I had never played bass before, I knew more about it than any other beginner he's had. I knew the strings, how to read music and read in bass clef, knew major and minor scales, knew where notes where on the strings and how to tune, and pretty much everything else he had set for the lesson. We were done in less than ten minutes. He was not prepared for that. xD

When I first played acoustic guitar in high school, I learned how to play a certain song by Fernando Sor. Then I just said ******** it and became self taught. Everything I know today is self taught. Nothing from high school stuck with me.
