Is it just me or are people missing the point of terrorists?
I mean... Yes, terrorists are bad people. They don't do nice things. But the things they do have a motivation, a reason. They aren't just bombing stuff for the sake of being big ol' meanie heads. The media seems to portray Al Queda as just that. A group of meanies who simply want to stir up chaos and pain.
But... They miss, or skip over the fact that Al Queda is a military, political group. Meaning, they have an agenda. They have things they want, and blowing s**t up is their wa of saying "Listen up".
Yes, this is the wrong way of going about it. I'm not agreeing with terrorism in the least. However, instead of brushing them off as crazy evil bad-people, why don't we take some time to sit down and think- "What do they want? What political goal do they want to achieve so badly that they would kill people?" If we know what they want, which is pretty much handed to us in every single video tape, can't we just... stop doing what it is that they hate us for?
Al Queda hates us for siding with the jews in palestine. They hate us for interfering in the middle-east at all. this as before 9/11. And then they bomb us. Our reaction is to invade further, to break the stops and fully invade. Not just have puppet countries, not just sending aid to allies there.
Basically, they hate us because we are there. And when the media refuses to let us know of this, Al Queda likely assumes that either we still aren't listening, or we just don't care. So what we have here is a country with a lot of power, a rebelious faction who wants the powerhouse out, and the people of the powerhouse who are generally ignorant of how both sides interact, but inherently patriotic for the side of the powerhouse.

No, no one is missing the point about terrorists.
You have a point that terrorist arnt just mean people. Infact, no one says they are. Terrorist have never been made out as just "mean people." They have always been made known as militeristic, political minded individuals who are willing to go the most extreme ends to achieve what they want. The media has never shyed away from telling, and in some instances showing the people this fact.
Al Queda has told us exactly what they want. Al Queda does not hate us because we are there. They do not hate us because we have HELPED the jews ('sided' is the wrong word). They do not hate us because we now occupy muslim owned land. I can answer your questions right now.
"What do they want? What political goal do they want to achieve so badly that they would kill people?" While tey do want us to leave the middle east, that wont be an end to all means. Thanks to video footage of riots, political execution, murders, attacks on the innocent, and the fact that they've all stated it so clearly (both in english and in their own language) we know for a fact that their motives are far form just political, they are also riligious. Al Queda is not just a political movment, they are a riligious one, used to force Islam on the inhabatents of the Middle East. And thanks to laws helped put in place (or should I say forced into place?) by them, in some areas (most areas actualy) convertign form islam is considered treason, and is punishable by death. Think that a lie? Look back into last year, a christian convert form islam fled his country because they wanted to kill him. The GOVERNMENT wanted to kill him, not just some extremesit political-riligious gorup. His ow government labeld him a traitor and sentinced him to be hanged. He fled his country and was given asylum and sanctuary in Europe.
Al Queda does not want us gne form their land, they want us gone from the earth. They want all riligions other then their own whipped out, and they want the "non-beleivers" either executed or enslaved.
The media makes it quite clear they want us gone. The people know they want us gone, and some people dont even want to be over there. All the protests, all those posters with writing "Iraq wants us out" "Afghanastan wants us out" "Send the troops home" "Leave the middle east alone" and the far more ignorant "No blood for oil." You havnt seen these? Heard about them on the news? Read about them in the newspaper?
Ser, you've missed the point. Not only that, but oyu havn't been paying attention.
Sixth poll option: They are a riligious-political movment that wont stop untill every one in the world has converted to islam, and hates us not because we are there, but becaue we exist and resfuse to convert *clicks*

Religion is only an excuse to get political needs met. Much like the money-driven crusades, using religion to justify killing to plunder and sack the rich cities. Or, more related, like slave owners quoting a shifty phrase in the bible to justify slavery.
Al Queda most likely uses religion for leverage because it has apeal- "You are this religion. You fit in here. You are this religion, so are we, we believe this, you should too."
Muslims and christians and jews are ALL the same thing. However, in the political bullshit, extremist groups and people who have money to make doing so will try to prove our differences rather than our more powerful similarities to stir up hate and make the enemy inhuman. unreal. evil.

ALot of people would like to think that, but its not the case. Al Qeada is driven by both political as well as riligious means. Their history in our world shows us this from what beggining we know of them. Their message to us always contains lines about how we are non-beleivers raping the name and words of God, and how we should convert to islam, accept that God is Allah, that Muhamed was the true prophet, and that then all will be forgiven. WHat you're trying to do is hold our enemy to the same political standards as we would our selves. One look at their current and past history will show us that to do such a thing is idiocy.
No, Christian, Jew, and Muslims are not the same. Each group of people has its own distenct message, its own distanct leaders and saviours, its own Heaven, Hell, and description of earth. The Tora, Quran, and Bibal all have similer stories in them, but each is distenct with how some are told. The only real similarity I see between the three groups is that those who arnt extreme mearly want coexistance and riligious tollerence and freedom of each other.

No, the similarities are as follows- A belief in the same God YHWH, A belief in Moses and Abraham and all other prophets (Except Jesus and Mohammed for the jews and Mohammed for the Christians, since they were before their respective prophet's times.) their is a bit about the muslim tests to get into heaven. One question is "Who is your prophet?" Jesus, Mohammed nd Moses are all acceptable answers.
Admittedly, Al Queda is more extremist, more like the KKK than an actual sect of the religion. However, it is important to know that the RELIGION is not at fault, it is the select goup who misuse it.
And much like the KKK, Al Queda has an agenda. They want something. They say that we invade their homeland and help their enemies. Which is true.
They didn't attack us for purely religious reasons, although religious reasons were presented to gain leverage and support with other muslims, the did it because we are, basically, jerks.
Look at it this way- Sometimes, as a bi-product of our militarism, we help people. This is true. however, in doing so, we make enemies as well. The people we fought against, and whoever their allies may be. Perfect example- We "aid" Iraq by destroying it's government (This is way back in the day, not 5 years ago) and set up a new one, with one of our corporate moguls, Saddam hussein.. Saddam goes on to bomb another country- Iran I think it was. We support his efforts, since Iran is not once of our allies and has a good bit of oil which can be taken. After this war, Iraq goes for another country, I think it was Kuwait. This was a problem, as we had allies in Kuwait and a good bit of business in oil. We would make morem oney keeping them friends than helping Saddam take them over. So, in the end, we piss off Iran and Iraq to help Kuwait.
If we had just left everything alone, left Iraq's government be and not helped bring Saddam to power (For more reason than the Gulf War), things would have been better off for everyone.
And again, the proposed plan is simple. Leave everything alone in other countries. Let it be. We generally cause more trouble than was originally going on anyway, and we piss off the people we side against.

Beleife in their existence? Yes. Are these beleifes the same? No. The Muslims do beleive Christ existed. Do they beleive him to be the Son of God? No. Do they beleive him to be the last great prophet? No. Do they beleife Abraham to be the leader and teacher unto heaven? No. While all these riligions have very similer aspects (IE the mention of same people such as adam, eve, abraham, christ, etc), these people are all beleived to have a diffrent purpose, origin, and existence in the riligions that teach about them. No, Jeudasims, Islam, and Christianity are similer in a few aspects, but each beleife is vastly diffrent to the point where they can not be considered the same thing.
No one here has said the riligion is at fault.
Yup. Can't find any thing to disagree with there
Can't agree with that. As I've prefiously stated, for them, do to proof of their history, actions, and statements, riligion had just as much a purpose as polotics.
I have no idea where that came from. Guess you're just trying to keep this going.
Yes, leave it alone, mabey it will go away...mabey.
Even if we stay out of it, our very existence will piss people off. We have all the wealth in the world, every nation looks to us, even if they may hate us they, in some way, look to us. We send out that wealth when ever and where ever we can. But because we aid some people before we can get to others, there will be parts of those others that will make us out to be evil, claiming we only want to help those people over there, but not them. When the case isn't that we don't want to help just one people and not others, its that we don't have enough resources and funding to help every one, every where, at the same time. Then there are those who take the help, yet claim all we're tryign to do is flaunt our money and power, trying to make them look bad. Common sence would tell you somethign about all this...no matter what we do to help some one, its going to hurt some one else. Why? Becuase we're power hungry and just trying to make a name for our selves. Because we hate those people over there but not these people here. Because were flauntests.
I have to agree. I say we pull in. I say we take on an isolationists attitude...just like we were SUPPOSED to. Stay nuetral in ALL fourighn affairs. Offer aid to no one but our selves. That way, the only thing we have to worry about the minority (yes, minority, because its a minority of the worlds population that thinks the US is evil) calling us is greedy. "all that wealth, and they horde it, not wanting to share it with the rest of the world"

Yes, I would much rather see the US hording what it owns and creates than policing the world. Much of the world would agree.
And generally, we only "help" where money can be made.

Generally speaking, money means very little to America as a whole. Generally, its private business thats interested in forighn affairs for the money. The government couldn't care less for another dollar. It makes more then enough moeny off it's own people from public taxes each year.
The US dosn't police the world, Ser, we've been through this. My self, Lyme, and I.Am have all proven you wrong at that angle and you know so. No, much of the world wouldn't agree. As much of the rest of the world values their trade and business with us. As muchof the world shares a diffrent view of the uS then you do. As much of the world does not feel America is tryign to police the world. Its a small minority of the world's population that feels the same way about the US as you do.

The government itself? No, it does not want money. However, the corporate owners who have influence over the government- not mind control, not puppeteering, but influencing the market to their gain, want more money.
For example- they will back efforts for war, to sell the military weaponry and aircrat parts. And some members of the government have stocks and shares and friends in such cmpanies. Since the powerful have money to make on war, they will not shy away from it and may even encourage it to line their own pockets.
And we DO police the world. What are we doing in Iraq? What were we doing when we set up Saddam? What are we doing posted in hundreds of countries which are of little threat to us?

I've heard the wildest stories on this... such as people blaming Clinton for not taking out Osama during the two chances he had.
Anyway the whole concept of posting troops in other countries to me is a load of bull...

FreeArsenal I've heard the wildest stories on this... such as people blaming Clinton for not taking out Osama during the two chances he had. Anyway the whole concept of posting troops in other countries to me is a load of bull... Right. We are stationed in many countries. Now, what would happen if another country wanted to station a military base here? Not to attack, but just to keep tabs on us? Even with the most decent of intentions, I'm sure it would never fly. But what makes us different? The fact that we have power and "democracy"? (It's a republic) Doesn't that in fact make us world police, ruling over and stationing other countries without taking our due in checks in balances? We are the weights and the scales and the blindfold and the venus.

We're actually a democratic republic, but regardless...
Actually, I do believe that we police the world. And I think that we should. Because who else is going to do it? No, no one else likes it. But everyone knows we need someone to police the world, that's why they created the UN. But the UN does jack-s**t, so someone else has to do it, and since no one else is capable or willing to, it's going to have to be us.
Divine, you compared Al-Qaeda to the KKK, and then said that the Al-Qaeda had reasons for doing what they do. Which is correct. But you make it sound like Al-Qaeda is just the poor bullied Muslim group that's decided to strike back. Which isn't true at all. They are extremist Muslims who want to destroy us, wipe us from the face of the planet, because we are not Muslim, and make excuses like our presence in Iraq or that we are slowly changing the rest of the world into Little America through Coca-Cola and McDonalds in order to gain followers of their cause.
But back to your comparison of Al-Qaeda to the KKK; Do you think that we should get rid of our prejudices about the KKK and sit them down and talk? What are their reasonable reasons for hating Blacks and Jews and any number of other non-White Protestant straight males?

Then some terrorists captured their land and expanded. Anyway, when England ruled it did many bad things. Places that weren't england but fell under Eng;and's rule were pretty crappy. Many countires were run by puppet governments, the state of life was pretty bad. And the corporate owners in England made profit from giving the people of the countries little while sapping the workforce and resources. Rulers are bad things. It gives a near unbreakable chain of command and power and wealth and status. It is very hard to break out of the class you are born into, and the country you are born into often places you into one of these near-inescapable cycles.
