Main
Name:Nicholas Heathwood Gender:Male Age: 18
Ethnicity: Gibraltarian Hometown: Gibraltar Birthday February 14th Occupation:Former student, currently unemployed Talents: Plays the Saxophone & writes music Fears: Dying alone, physical pain in general & creepy crawlies (Usually defined as: bugs larger than human fingers) Likes: Drawing, the blues, soft drinks, anime, his privacy, warm weather. Dislikes: Impatience, rain, pop music, people who give up to easily, thieves. Bad habits: Bites his nails & tenancy to get overly obsessive Spoken languages:English and Spanish (He often says Spanish word in the middle of English sentences and vice versa, or which language mid sentence all together, but this is usually when he’s stressed or pissed). Nick Names: Like most people with the first name Nicholas, hes often referred to as Nick or Nicky by pretty much everyone.
Appearance: Build: Medium height and skinny. Skin:Slightly pale Hair: Nearly shoulder length ginger hair, usually very messy as he barely combs it. He always has his hair dyed, the commonest colour being Black, as during school he was the target of a great deal of abuse purely because of begin ginger. Eyes:Hazel (Predominantly green, with brown along the iris’ edges) Always wearing: His glasses for his long-sightedness (He doesn’t really need them that much, just for reading really, he just wears them most of the time because likes them), and a thin sliver chain of no real value apart from sentimental. Most of the clothes he wears are quite scruffy or baggy, mainly because he’s lazy, but partly because he doesn’t like people knowing he’s rich.
Personality: He is often a very shy person, however this is mostly dependant on who he's with, when he's around close friends he can be very spontaneous and childish, but around strangers he's quiet and untalkative. It’s very easy to tick him off, but since he gets annoyed over trivial things it’s hard for him to make friends. This anger isn’t fits of rage or yelling, rather sarcastic remarks and other verbal abuse. Another barrier which prevents him being friendly with people is his tendency to hold grudges (Again over trivial things). And yet another being is inability to express his true feelings to quite literally anyone (Unless someone where to force it out of him, even then it's highly unlikely he'd ever openly express his feelings). He tries to be perky around new people, but his short fuse usually hampers this.
When he gets bad moods they tend to come back out when he’s alone. When he’s in a bad mood he blocks everyone out, and is no above being a complete a*****e to anyone who tries to help or even talk to him. Though he’d never admit it, he’s rather self centered and inconsiderate. While he claims most of his interests help him keep his mind of things, a more accurate term would be ”Escapism”.
He hates fighting, he feels nothing good ever comes from it and goes out of his way to ensure he never gets into one, or annoy anyone for that matter. Which is quite contradictory to how he behaves when playing videogames, where he has no problem slashing/shooting at everything that moves. He tries to avoid conflict where ever he can. He often tries to avoid being a nuisance to people as well, though, it more often than not ends up with him inconveniencing himself or having the situation worst, rather than being less bothersome.
He's not exactly lazy, it's just if something isn't something he has a personal interest in (Like school work) he just won't bother. He puts much more effort into private work than he ever does into anything else (often to the point of an obsession). But he's never in much of a rush to do anything either, but at the end of the day he always gets it done. He’s got a very “Easy come easy go” attitude towards failure. If something doesn’t work the first time, he’ll just try again a second time, or a third and so on.
He has quite an over active imagination, often the most seemingly random things inspire equally bizarre ideas. Another bad habit of his is making the most obscure references to things during mid-conversation (But nobody apart from him ever finds it funny though). He also has the habit of humming under his breath without noticing, and thinking out loud.
Misc Stuff: Although he was raised Catholic, Nicholas doesn't hold any particularly strong belief in God. He only has a very loose belief in good and bad Karma.
Backround
Family: Parents:Adrian & Blair Siblings:Rebecca (3 Years younger than him)
Background: Nicholas was born into a rich family, his father ran a successful internet based casino. Since he was young his parents insisted that he go to boarding school in England and be ready to take on the business upon graduating. As he was young he never argued with his parents on the matter (though, his mother was adamant on him living away from home, but agreed in the end, he seemed to little say in the matter). Knowing he wouldn't be at home for very long he was close friends with his little sister, and was her only friend for a lot of the time she was at first school. His sister would often tease and play pranks on him. She was heartbroken when he had to leave, he knew he would miss her and visa versa, but he harbored grudge against his parents for forcing boarding school on him. All the letters he ever sent home where addressed to his sister rather than his parents, they where always addressed to Rebecca’s room "Rebecca Heathwood, second floor, and third door from the left next to the stairs and right of the broom cupboard". (This became a running joke between the two)
At school he kept to himself mostly, even though he shared a room with other boys. While he wasn’t much of a trouble maker, his schoolwork was constantly handed in late. The boarding school was also an all boy's school, this lead to him never having a girlfriend during his teenage life, this lack of socialization with girls other than his sister made him very nervous around any girls following school He bought a Saxophone in secret at school (Which he bough using the regular supply of spending money his parents mailed him), he learned to play by himself, through a lot of trial and error mainly. Is because of this unorthodox learning technique that he doesn’t know the names of many musical notes and other musical terminology. He never had a real reason to keep it a secret, but it was something that gave him comfort, knowing he could do something his parents had no control over. Being away from home and without someone to be insistent on keeping his hair clean, his hair would go unwashed for weeks, along his clothes and his room.
He never did very well in his classes, not because he was bad at them, he just didn't care; he just liked drawing, but he didn’t care much for the stuff the art classes did. With his father connections he was however, still allowed to attend the school, despite his poor grades. Though it often lead to a lot a rows between him an his parents about how poorly he was doing in school
He spent most of his summers and school breaks playing Videogames, watching Anime DVDs or with his sister. She missed him greatly during the school year, but he had became selfish and got into the habit of faking illness's when there was a holiday so he could be left alone, and continued to distance himself from his whole family.
After school he was unable to get into any Universities that his parents considered decent or worth his time, considering his school work. So he spend the next two years of his life staying at his families holiday villa along the neighbouring “Costa Del Sol”, much to the annoyance of his father. He managed living purely through borrowed money from his parents. During this time he saw little of his parents, though his sister visited. He was also unable to get a job over these two years, despite his numerous attempts. Rebecca, however left school and got a job working as a secretary and assistant in her father’s main office towards the end of this two year period.
Other Stuff
On the Island because:After school Nicholas had hoped to be a game designer, though he was unable to find a job due to his lack of university education and as he was also trying to get one where he could stay away from his parents this became an also hopeless task. So a free ticket for a holiday would be too good to pass up given his current situation.
Stuff brought to the island: 1.Saxophone, he only ever plays when he wants to be left alone or when he wants to take his mind off things, while at school it was common knowledge that music emanating from his room meant "Do not enter". 2. Photograph of himself and his little sister when he was ten during the summer before he left for boarding school 3. Family photograph, it has a large tear down the left side of it, this missing part of the photograph is where Nicholas used to be. He had torn it when he left for boarding school, though shortly afterwards he had taped his school photograph in its place out of guilt. 4. A file of sheet music, most of the music written inside is in Nicholas’ own, semi-illegible handwriting. Some of the music is his own, but the majority of the files contents are the theme tunes or other music from various sources, which Nicholas wrote through guess work/internet resources. The most notable examples being “Tank!” and ”Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”. Though, his personal favorite is a song on his own invention called "The, there’s a big old hole in my cars roof Blues" which assuming Nicholas doesn’t get to winded, it lasts 15 minutes. 5. A Stand for the sheet music, unlike most his possessions, the stand is in pretty bad shape, it leans to the side slightly and covered in rust. It’s also incredibly hard to collapse as all of its hinges have almost completely rusted shut. 6. A Suitcase containing a small selection of clothes, and other miscellaneous items, such as a tooth brush, hair dryer etc. 7. His collection of CDs, and the equally old CD player to play them, Nicholas isn’t a fan of MP3s, and since Vinyl records are way to big to carry around, he goes for CDs instead. Mainly because he hates people stealing music for free, and he likes collecting the albums art as much as the music. 8. A Nintendo DS and a large sample of games for it, because of course, he can’t be very long without playing some kind of videogame.

And the other character:
Name: Cole Daniels Gender: Male Age: 31 Ethnicity: British Hometown: Blackpool Birthday 19th September Occupation: Amateur Snowboarder, but works as a cashier at Tesco’s to pay for the snowboarding trips Likes: Cold weather, energy drinks, dogs, hot chocolate Dislikes: Storms, childishness, “Emo” music Bad habits: His boastfulness Spoken languages: Just English, but he has picked up a few phrases of French and German on his trips (Though, its only enough to order a burger or ask where the bathroom is)
Appearance: Build:Average Hair: Dirty blonde, very short, gelled and spiked up at the front Eyes: Baby blue Distinguishing features: Cole doesn’t have much to make him stand out too much, though he does have a seldom seen tribal band tattoo on his right bicep) and, much to his embarrassment, a gap between his two front teeth that’s just large enough to be noticeable.
Personality:
Cole is generally a typical nice guy, friendly enough to everyone he meets, but knows where to draw the line. When he’s in a good mood, he’s likely to come across as being way too friendly for his own good. Though his main negative quality is his over confidence and boasting about his accomplishments (Usually slightly exaggerated stories about real events) Cole is usually very optimistic about his life, but sometimes he’s bordering just being ignorant.
Background:
Ever since a family trip to France (When he was 13), where his family went skiing, Cole has loved snowboarding. So ever since he left school and got his rather lack luster job, he’s been taking trips to central Europe to snowboard. Since he lived in England it was only a short hop across the English channel every time.
But, it was bound to happen sooner or later, he broke his leg. Cole had to cancel his latest trip off to the Alps. Even after he'd recovered from his broken leg he wasn't in any shape to proper snowboard any more. His family suggested why not take this as an opportunity to go visit somewhere else, somewhere nice and warm, spend a holiday relaxing for once, not busy practising.

Doot doot. biggrin I really like Nicholas - while he's very much a "normal" character, you've put enough effort into his background and personality to make him believable. The quirks you've given him make him interesting as well, so I approve him. <3 Having had both pet geckos and pet cats in the past, he seems very much like a cat personality, rather than gecko... Independent, yet still very much content in a home-life setting. Still, it's your choice really. XD
As for Cole~ I really like where it's going (snowboarder to snail is HAWT. XD), yet it seems like you could make him a lot more dynamic, like you did with Nicholas. Putting more into his personality and background is the key, I believe - I'd like to know what he's more like outside of his snowboarding experiences, what his relationships with people have been like, etc. I just think he could be "more" than what he is now, so I'll let you keep working on him. <3
