The flute I use most of the time is older than I am! My sister got it when she was in 4th grade, and she's in ther mid-30's now. Yes, I was influenced by her to choose flute...

It's got keys that have had to be replaced (and they look totally different than the rest), and 20 years of dents and other war wounds. My French flute, luckily, is in MUCH better condition.

So how does everybody else's flutes look like? Post pics if you want!

My flutes are both in need of repair. They are both altleast thirthy years old. One needs new pads, new springs, and a good polish. The other needs new pads, new springs, new corks, a polish, and probably a chemical bath. The first was completly rehauled seven years ago and I never rehauled the second.

Mine's in good condition (to my eyes). Of course, there may be a major undetected leak in it. Again. Eh, it's probably me.

I make sure my flute is in top condition. I dont see any scratches or dents at all.

My flute is barely 6 months old, and I've taken excellent care of it, so it's still in pretty much perfect condition.

My old flute is in a sad state. D: It's different colours in many places, and the tone is reaaally bad, and the pads need replacing, and it's got dents and scratches... irk.

Haha, our school has really bad luck with piccolos. We had a Jupiter piccolo that broke within the span of 10 minutes after coming back from repairs... and then we bought a gorgeous Yamaha wood piccolo, which was given excellent treatment by my band director, and it still broke in a month. D:

I have a 2 year old flute and trying to get a new Gemeindhardt open hole maybe inline G and definantly a B foot joint.

Then on top of that I am aiming for my own marching pic.

My Armstrong 102 beginner is in pretty much perfect condition, could use a polish, but that's about it.

My Jupiter 711...I don't even know how old it is, has had at least two previous owners. Could've had more, but I don't know. Consequently, it had pads pretty much half my age and I'm sixteen. Right now, the pads are being replaced and I just have to go pick it up, but it's so expensive. I believe it could use new springs, but probably can't afford to get them replaced. The joints are loose and that is a major problem, but it's impossible to fix basically. It also sports numerous battle wounds...but nothing major.

My flute is looking ok. Its different colors on some keys and where I hold it. It has several dents. The pads were just replaced last summer. It needs a good polish right now. My piccolo is in perfect condition. Well, thats because I just got it on Tuesday.

My flute is in alright condition. I really need to take it too the shop. I can't remember the last time I took it, but it's been a while. There many tiny nicks in the head joint which weren't all caused by me since I got it at a pawn shop. I'm not even sure how old it is. It's definitely time for it to be adjusted and checked for leaks, but the pads seem fine for now.

My piccolo is in very good condition because sadly I haven't practiced it lately at all. I've been so busy that I'm doing good to even pick up my flute. T^T
And I've gotten worse at flute because I'm at that stage again where I'm discouraged and unmotivated with it because I haven't had lessons for three months and have no new music. it's just not exciting to practice since I don't like the way I sound since I'm not practicing like I should. I'll be starting lessons up again this month and hopefully get back into practicing a lot.
Piano is just easier for me so I usually turn to that instead of the flute although when I practice my flute everyday it can be so much fun.

i got my flute a little less than a year ago. most of the mechanisms are fine, but there are some small dents and scratches cause i'm so clumsy mad

my piccolo belongs to the school. it's actually not that bad, cause it got fixed and i cleaned it at the beginning of the year, but i guess it could definitely be better.

To put it simply...
^^;;
It's been in waaaaay better condition.

I dropped it last October, and part of it came loose. Never fixed it.
Half the pads are screwed up because we marched in the rain.
I drop it almost everyday.
The nickel plating is wearing off ← Which sucks because it rubs off under my lip, and since I'm allergic to nickel, I get a rash after playing.

Wow, you guys are lucky. I'd love to have an old flute, but then I'd be afraid to play it thinking I might break it. Anyway mine isn't too bad. I didn't clean it much my first couple of years but now I polish it and everything. It has a few icky dents in it. I'm upset about the one in the mouthpiece, it's so annoying!! Other than that it's pretty good. It's 7 years old.

Btw, I don't know what you guys do to clean it already, but get some white pipe cleaners and go under all the key mechanisms. The first time I did that it came out BLACK. Isn't that disgusting?

P.S. Like 3 players I know have bent flutes. Like literally a curved piece of metal. Poor flutes. gonk

My flute is in fairly bad condition, even though the last time it was in the repair shop was about three months ago. It has scratches all over it. The end of the mouthpiece is rusted and a sickly brownish green. Near the end of mouthpiece is a small dent and to top it off, a small scratch to the left of it. Not only that, the giant metal bar thing that goes across the flute to hold a majority of the pads is loose. gonk But still, besides the fact that its hard to put the mouthpiece into the body (since it's rusted), my flute works just fine. eek
