i used to rent this video tape when i was a kid. the movie was cool. but i was shocked to learn that it was actually a mix of robotech and megazone 23. neutral but the mech designs were still cool especially the garland/modat. 3nodding

I've only seen about 1/3 of the Untold Story (though I know the story), but I've seen all of Megazone 23 Part I. Overall it's a pretty good mech movie (especially in MZ23 form), though Untold didn't get patched together nearly as well as the RT series did.
I'm rather fond of the Garland/MODAT design, but the Harguns and other mecha didn't appeal to me nearly as much.

Yeah, it's pretty cool from what I saw. There's an excellent fanfic reimagining of it called "The Andrews Incident" floating around the net. You won't find a legitimate DVD of Untold Story since none was ever released (the most it got outside of the test showing in Texas was an overseas VHS release), but ADV did release DVDs of all three Megazone OVAs that are still fairly easy to find.

tezuka64 so i have to look for megazone 23, then? Correct. Be aware, however, that in addition to a completely different plot Megazone 23 also includes explicit sexual content and increased violence. And just to make sure you know, the MZ23 DVDs do NOT contain any version of Untold Story. Just the original show, with a new dub and completely different cast.

I actually own a copy of this movie. It's a decent movie, but it's not great.

Someone posted a torrent file of Untold Story on the Robotech X forums. Not that I condone such methods to watch rare, out-of-print movies... I would, of course, have to recommend people look to the closest thing there is to a current legitimate release, which would be ADV's DVDs of the original Megazone 23.

I wonder how The Untold Story would have turned out if Cannon Films let Macek have his way. He made a version, turned it in, but he had to take out more chicks and add more "big robots". Harmony Gold cringes everytime someone mentions it to them lol
To go along with Megazone 23, check out Macross Zero(a back story on Roy Fokker, but officially endorsed in the Robotech series) and Macross Plus(no notable figures except the SDF-1/Macross, again not apart of the Robotech saga).
