Well, the book came out on sale today, and I got myself a copy while shopping with my parents earlier today. I'm about a hundred pages in--I'm up to the wedding chapter right now. I'm guessing I'll finish the book by tomorrow night if I don't have too much to do; if not, then definitely by the day after. XD

Anyone else got a copy and started reading yet? (or finished reading, already?) What are your thoughts about it?

Please kindly hide spoilers with white text in case others haven't read it yet! ^_^

All right, I've finished reading it just after dinner today. Some parts of it read like a fanfic (XD!), but it was quite a excitable read, and fairly well-paced. The epilogue was cheesy, no doubt, but it wasn't that upsetting although I certainly expected more.

Nobody else read it yet? >w<

I really liked it! It's kind of wierd having all the books written and not anticipating another one. My friend Sydney and I are total losers though.
When Hargid fell we went "Yes!!! he's dead!!!" then we were kinda like "Ohhhhh! He's alive!!!" I'm not sure why we wanted him dead though...oh well.

But Hagrid is wonderful!

I was so upset about Hedwig! Oh and Fred, Lupin and Tonks!

Among the numerous deaths in the book, the only ones that I was truly upset about were Dobby's and Hedwig's. Especially Hedwig, as she never properly reconciled with Harry in the end, and she had to get blown up on top of it all. sweatdrop

Kreacher was hilarious, especially in the final battle. XD

Dobby and Hedwig's deaths upset me the most too. They didn't deserve it. sad
Overall, I liked the book - it was a bit slow in a few places but in others quite exciting. I think DH lacked the structure and the setting that all the other books in the series had by being set mainly at Hogwarts.

Nobody deserved to die--but it's war, and that's how it is. I just felt that the other deaths weren't as regretful as Dobby's and Hedwig's. Remus and Tonks', for example, was but a mere passing mention that they were dead in the final battle. Shouldn't there be more touchup on this, considering Remus was the last link Harry had to the Marauders?

And true, but the hunt for the horcruxes united the book as well, and I did like how Rowling threw the Hallows in there to further complicate things.

I did think the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort was a little anticlimatic though. ^^;

I think she should have made a bigger deal about Lupin dying. He was, after all, the last of the Marauders, who all died prematurely.

I also thought that the final showdown was a bit bad. I was hoping for something really quite interesting rather than two spells that have been seen a thousand times already.

I also would have liked to have details of the duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore...

Yes, I'd like to have seen that, but it's not so important in the grand scheme of things to DH, I suppose. It'd be an interesting fanfic idea though, the whole backstory of Dumbledore.

I agree. Dumbledore's story would be really interesting.
