I recently got into an argument with someone over this kind of situation:
Lets say you're walking down the street and you see someone getting mugged. the attacker is clearly armed and dangerous. which coarse of action would you take 1. run away and get to safety 2. try to directly intervene and hope you scare away the attacker 3. keep at a safe distance and call the police
I'd go with number three

Three if I had a cell phone, then two. If not, then I'd go directly into two.

By the time help got there they'd be gone.
I pick B. I sneak up on them and beat their a** with my ninja skills.

The 3rd option is the best choice. However, depends on the situation, I'm not sure if I will follow through or not. confused Basically, if it's something that happened suddenly in front of me, my first reaction is to flee. Will my conscious kick in or not, and when it will start to kick in is a question. xp

It depends entirely on your mindset and capabilities.
Having said that, it is very rare for a robber to continue his actions once third parties intervene. Remember that the mindset of a thief is easy target, easy target, easy target! A target that suddenly becomes not easy will usually be abandoned.
So I would hope for all of society that everyone here would at least yell and run towards the situation to help their fellow man and reduce crime. If you sit back and wait for the police, the robber will almost certainly escape. If you intervene, he will probably still escape, but the victim will be more likely to keep their property and the knowledge that some people in this world still help others in need.

Normally I would go into two, except the 'armed and dangerous' part is very offputting. I know not to ******** with someone with a gun, or a knife. Whether they'll use those weapons against you or not is hard to predict because you won't know exactly how armed and dangerous they are at first glance like that. Especially if the victim is co-operating, so they won't need to use violence.

Actually, as a shooter and handgun owner myself, I am familiar with how inaccurate most people are with a handgun. Even if you managed to startle the attacker enough that he began shooting at you, it's pretty unlikely he will hit you as long as you stay about 20 feet back and keep moving. Only a crack shot with combat experience could reliable hit the target in that situation, and most criminals are, by definition, lazy and don't invest the work to become crack shots.

Personally I usually have some sort of "protective Device" on my person at most times.
Honestly I'd probably call then flip out my knife I wont wait 30 minutes for the police department to show up

I'd like to carry a protective device on my person, but its hard to do so where I live. You can get sent down for something so easily. So no knives unless you're good at not getting caught. Guns are illegal and mace just can't be found anywhere. At least, not outside of the black market.

According to Genovese Syndrome I would "go about my daily business and ignore it"; although I like to think that I would intervene, I know that if I was by myself and the perpetrator in question did have a formidable weapon I would probably walk far-far away (by which time it would most likely be too late) and then call the coppers. My conscience would be clear and I would've changed nothing.

I'd call the police. I'm not very physically strong, and turning it into a murder won't do anything for anyone's benefit.

I'm a coward, and proudly so. Therefore... I would go with three if possible, if not one. I might see if person is okay after the attack, though.

Guns are illegal and mace just can't be found anywhere. At least, not outside of the black market. You *do* have a protective device on your person. Everyone does. Self-defense starts in your mind. Don't make the mistaking of thinking that because you don't have a piece of plastic or metal in your pocket you can't defend yourself or someone else. Ninety percent of self-defense has nothing to do with the tools.

Normally, I keep a razor sharp magnum switchblade on me for safety reasons, so I'd try to give a call if it looked bad enough and sneak up, and take them out.
